I'm picturing the beginning of Airplane where they spoof JAWS sneaking up
Lionheart-Q@reddit
What an airport.
This is much better than Schipholš
hatlad43@reddit
Tbh I was expecting an airport like Lukla. When the actual airport can be seen, I'm a bit disappointed but also reliefed it's not as terrifying.
Free-Baizuo08@reddit
Yes same. Iāve landed in Lukla as a passenger, that was the best thrill ride I have ever done in my life.

Hats off! That is seriously so amazing cant wait to go there soon!
krnpineapple@reddit
is this where they build the arks in the movie 2012?
WelpImTrapped@reddit
Isn't the EGPWS blaring "pull up" the whole time?

Good pov
Thurak0@reddit
The one time POV would have been correct to be used, an OP chooses not to use it. :(

The number of people unimpressed by this in this thread makes me think weāve been desensitised.
bfly1800@reddit
I saw an interview with an actor or comedian saying he refuses to look at photos of the top of Mount Everest. āI shouldnāt be able to see that. I didnāt earn the right to that view.ā Thatās really had me thinking - we feel so entitled to see every angle of everything, and to see it now.
And youāre right, now weāre all desensitised, or hyper critical of genuinely impressive stuff because somehow weāre all experts now. It really is that damn phone.
Stay-At-Home-Jedi@reddit
I was watching Steveo1Kinevo on his recent flight through New York at night, which he also related to his flight through the Swiss Alps.
He didn't quite say this, but he did repeat how cameras didn't do it justice, how awe inspiring the two contrasting views were, and how privileged he felt to fly these unique, picturesque, landscapes.
My friend once humbled me in a similar way.
While staring at the base of a 2.5k ft climb, she responded, "Dude, that's not a mountain; that's a hill!"
You simply haven't seen it until you've experienced it š
Key-Pineapple1969@reddit
This is something I think about a lot, thereās not really anything on my mind that cameras can do proper justice. even just a 150 meter hill, or really, just a 10 meter drop. all the aspects that make these things impressive are lost through the internet. going on hikes has really shifted my frame of reference for anything regarding terrain. itās all so wildly huge and hard to navigate in person lol.
VanillaTortilla@reddit
I think the awe of Everest was better when it wasn't full of trash and influencers trying to ruin it.
Key-Pineapple1969@reddit
you been up there?
VanillaTortilla@reddit
No, but I've seen what people have done to it. I'm never going to go up there, but I can appreciate it for what it is, and hate what it's become.
DynamiteWitLaserBeam@reddit
These are the same people who leave their window shade down the entire flight. No sense of wonder at all.

⦠are you in a different thread?
What comments are unimpressed?
kristina_42@reddit
mostly because Iāve done this already in flight simulator
angryPenguinator@reddit
Speaking only for myself, but if it was the original, non-sped up video without the music it would be more impressive I think.
ConstantPlastic5061@reddit
Itās just so mind blowing see that terrain go by
StBlandine7@reddit
Reminds me of Tomorrow Never Dies
forreddituse2@reddit
It seems no night operation in this airport?
dw444@reddit
No day operations either most of the year. This airport is only operational in late spring and summer. For the rest of the year itās shutdown and buried under snow.
Similar_Whole5626@reddit (OP)
Actually the airport is operational during winters but the main concern is the visibility no the snow
dw444@reddit
Iām probably using outdated information. Havenāt lived there in eight years.
Old-Library5546@reddit
Wht type of plane was this?
Similar_Whole5626@reddit (OP)
An A320
IC_1318@reddit
What??? I didn't expect that, I'd love to see more footage of this
wggn@reddit
i found this: https://youtu.be/c7iX_F7jKPA
Old-Library5546@reddit
Thank you, I just looked that type of plane up. I thought it would be a smaller prop plane
teahugger@reddit
Welcome to Aviation
Old-Library5546@reddit
Thank you!
AutoRot@reddit
That makes a huge difference. I assumed a twin otter or something with a wider flight envelope. Things can go sideways much quicker with a turbofan.
cstross@reddit
Okay, what joker put a runway in the middle of the Mach Loop?
Lawdoc1@reddit
My first thought as well. Though it also reminded me of Star Wars/Rainbow Canyon in Death Valley.
Phirane@reddit
This is the last stop before you trek to K2
Jlx_27@reddit
Amazing views!!
steviticua21@reddit
lol 15,000ā LAT route into a steep descent approach landing at 7,500ā FE. Incredible.
DaniArdor94@reddit
I believe this is the Karakoram mountain range, not the Himalaya.
_adinfinitum_@reddit
The city of Skardu is on the Karakoram side but the landing approach is from the Himalayas. Itās pretty much the western end of the Himalayas so youāre not entirely wrong. Not sure why youāre getting down voted.
reddsal@reddit
I donāt think this gives any sense of the actual turbulence one would experience. Many updrafts. I get a bit queasy thinking about flying this.
Steve_the_Stevedore@reddit
A320 have a wingloading around 800 kg/m^2. The gliders I fly don't even have a tenth of that. I would be surprised if it was too bad.
saadabdullah@reddit
its surprisingly not that crazy. unless you run into bad weather, the flight is pretty smooth.
pjalle@reddit
I did this is 2019, not much turbulence actually, but of course it can vary greatly from day to day.
Nabanako111@reddit
Ok I get it now why Morgoth coudn't find Gondolin.
saadabdullah@reddit
Been on this flight a couple times, there really are no words to describe how Surreal it all is, flight path takes you through snow covered unreal peaks including the 9th highest in the world. Just beautiful.
Similar_Whole5626@reddit (OP)
TERRAIN TERRAIN PULL UP!!!
baronmunchausen2000@reddit
I guess no go arounds if you flub the landing.
Similar_Whole5626@reddit (OP)
Actually go-arounds are possible, you just have to make a sharp left turn right after you declare it!!
Putrid-Ice-7511@reddit
Public_Fucking_Media@reddit
Retard. Retard.
WhatsUpSteve@reddit
The turbulence coming off those mountains must be crazy.
OzziesFlyingHelmet@reddit
I would have a difficult time speaking during this approach. Absolutely awe-inspiring.
SandwichClubz@reddit
That's awesomen
raphiredgi@reddit
The view in person of Himalayas is no comparison to your phone.
Itās crazy how huge they are. You can see a range of mountains before you see them
Mohsincj@reddit
If weather is cloudy they don't fly
teahugger@reddit
If weather is clear they fly
PenguinAlpenfohn@reddit
WTF ... WTF ... WTF ... Oh, there's the airstrip ...
greatsleepingcat@reddit
Damn! Im genuinely curious dont bite me, do they only fly in that area during daylight? Because i really dont know how theyll manage if it's at night with all of those mountains
pjalle@reddit
I did this flight in 2019, it's only for good conditions and daytime. It's really cool as you fly pretty close to Nanga Parbat which is 8100 meters high, not much lower than the cruise altitude of the flight.
Marklar_RR@reddit
Only during daylight and VFR conditions. Here is a PDF document describing how to land and take off from Skardu. It's written for flightsim pilots but it should not be much different from real life procedures. https://theairlinepilots.com/forumarchive/airfield-area-procedures/skardu/a320-skardu-operation.pdf
reddsal@reddit
āThe white zone is for loading and unloading only.ā āPlease proceed to Gate D37.ā
Due_Profession_2490@reddit
Holy crap! Hate to try that in bad weather
fresh_like_Oprah@reddit
Thank God that flagman was there
HavingNotAttained@reddit
Very cool, thanks for sharing

Airport elevation of 7,301 ft / 2,225 m. Certainly up there, but not nearly as high as I'd imagined.
