3090 (24GB) Used vs. 5060 Ti (16GB) New for UE5 VR Development? (No Nanite/Lumen)

I’m a 3D artist planning a workstation build for Unreal Engine 5 VR Development
A quick note: I won't be using Nanite or Lumen for my workflow. I’m focusing on a more traditional high-poly workflow with baked lighting and standard LOD systems for VR optimization.
I’m torn between two options:
- RTX 3090 (24GB VRAM) - Used: The raw VRAM capacity is very tempting for handling massive textures and complex Arnold scenes without hitting memory limits.
- RTX 5060 Ti (16GB VRAM) - New: Newer architecture, better power efficiency, and full warranty. But I'm worried if 16GB will be enough for high-end VR assets and Arnold renders by 2027, especially without the optimization benefits of Nanite.
The Specs:
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 (Staying on DDR4 to maximize capacity over speed).
- CPU: i5-12600K
The Question: For a non-Nanite/Lumen workflow in VR, is that extra 8GB of VRAM on the 3090 a "must-have," or is the 5060 Ti's 16GB sufficient for the next few years? How much does the lack of Nanite increase the pressure on VRAM in your experience?
Thanks!

Buying 3090 is near 5070ti prices seems like a silly buy.

Unless you need frame generation or advanced RT, I’d say go for the 3090.. it’ll beat the 5060ti in like 95% of applications. Both aren’t that future proof so you will likely need to upgrade in a few years anyways, but imo, I’d say the more cuda cores and ram make the 3090 an easy pick.

I get it man. But can the 3090 still go for at least 4 more years? Until like 2030-2031?

As others have said, it’s just silicon lottery and age. 3090 came out 2020 and stopped producing ton 2022, so the cards are all at least 4 years old.
If they’re kept in mint condition and never used, then yeah they can last a while. But that was the peak of the crypto mining boom, so it’s gonna be hard to find an unused 3090 I think

Unknown as that’s silicon lottery. Take care of the card, and assuming it wasn’t abused or beaten up before you buy, it’ll last. I got an old ass RX580 still running and that thing is old. Since you mention you don’t need the advanced features, the ram and raw power should be good or a while in terms of usefulness, especially if you’re comparing to a 5060 Ti. I’d love a 3090 but used prices are still insane here, about $1,000 to $1,200 Canadian.

The buyer also used it for 3D art. It looks clean, I'll repaste it when I get it. Also I live in Turkey so converted to usd it's 500 dollars. What do you think?

It will be at least as good as a 5060 would. GPU failures/defects are pretty uncommon
