Does anyone else feel like most E-Trike seats are too narrow and too hard for seniors?

Lately I’ve been spending a lot of time riding with my older family member on his etrike, and I started noticing a very real problem.
Younger riders probably don’t think much about it, but for seniors it’s completely different. A lot of the stock seats look fine at first, but after riding for 20–30 minutes, the lower back and tailbone pain really starts to kick in.
My old man literally gets off the trike holding his back every time and needs a minute before he can even walk normally.
So I started paying attention and realized most seats on the market are actually pretty narrow and firm. They’re “usable,” but not really comfortable for older riders doing longer rides.
That got me thinking:
Would anyone actually want a wider, comfort-focused seat upgrade made specifically for seniors?
The idea in my head is something like:
- Wider seating area
- Thicker, softer foam
- Better tailbone/lower back support
- Simple vibration feature (nothing crazy like a massage chair)
- Optional heating for colder days
- Easy install without modifying the trike
But maybe it’s just my family dealing with this, so I wanted to ask real riders here.
A few honest questions:
- Do you also get lower back or tailbone pain after longer rides?
- Would a light vibration feature actually feel useful to you, or just gimmicky?
- If something like this genuinely improved comfort, what price would feel reasonable to you?
Not selling anything and not trying to advertise.
I just got tired of hearing my old man complain about his back every ride 😂
Curious if a lot of other people are dealing with the same thing too.

I have a fractured tail bone and sitting on my Velotric Triker seat has been fine so far! Adjustable back rest!

A saddle is very personal. You can’t make a bike with a saddle for every ass.
Just buy one that works for your own padonkadonk.

its having to fight the trike to keep it upright since it cant be leaned over. So that effort is coming from the "old mans" lower back and causing alot of hurt.

A cheap suspension seatpost and Cloud 9 seat made a huge difference on one of my bikes. My nephew uses a seat with a backrest he loves.

If it doesnt have decent rear suspension it will always be compromised. You can buy suspension seat posts, taller handlebars, and wider/thicker seats to help out however.

Loved my suspension seat on ebike. Surprisingly cheap to get a basic post..

they do it on purpose because majority of riders always replace the seat so the one that comes with the bike are the cheapest garbage seats on the market. another point to consider is the tilt of it. point nose too high and your back will hurt, point it too low and your arms will hurt. have to find the middle ground where the pain takes the longest time to arrive, it will ALWAYS arrive but with right seat positioning will take a while.

Stock seats in general are lowest tier on just about any bike. It's an easy olace to save money on for the manufacturer and most people won't realize until after buying the bike because most test rides are not long enough to get a good feel for the seat. Also there are all sorts of preferences and it's an easily swapped out component so it makes little sense to upgrade the stock seat anyways
