Idk If I should tag this as culture or food and drink but I went with food and drink. I'm not American so I'm curious what you guys like, also is mac n cheese actually good? I always wanted to try it.

My favorite specifically American foods are jambalaya and steamed blue crab with Old Bay seasoning.
Jambalaya isn't common on restaurant menus outside of Louisiana, but it's easy to make at home. And blue crab is generally only found near the mid-Atlantic and southeast coasts.
My opinion on macaroni and cheese probably is in the minority, but the best things I can say about it is that mac and cheese is blindly inoffensive and usually even the pickiest eaters will go for it.

Good biscuits and gravy. So simple but so comforting and delicious. The smell/taste takes me right back to being a kid staying at my grandparents house and waking up every morning to the smell of fresh biscuits and gravy, bacon, and hashbrowns coming down the hall from the kitchen. Served with orange juice and fresh fruit to start another day of playing in the pecan trees. I didn't realize at the time how fond those memories would still be decades later.

Emphasis on good. It's very easy to be served a cold flour sludge with hardtack if you go to the wrong place at the wrong time. Best fresh, best done at home imo

Buy an immersion circulator and a cheap cut of beef like chuck. Rub the chuck in kosher salt and let dry age in the fridge for 24 hours, turning once. Brush off the salt, give it a sear and deglaze with a bit of red wine or vinegar. Put the beef, sayce, and some garlic and a sprig of rosemary to a gallon freezer bag, and sous vide at 132F. (How long depends on the thickness but probably 8+ hours). Optional: chill and leave the sealed bag in the fridge for a week. To serve, warm up, blot dry, and give another sear. You now have something that tastes like ribeye for half the price that you paid for ribeye in 2019.

Favorite food: Middle Eastern, Afghan. Followed by Thai and Indian.
Of American food: breakfast/diner food, a Thanksgiving meal, followed by BBQ, hamburgers and hotdogs.

Pizza and pasta are easy go tos and sit right at the top but my two ultimates are PA Dutch style Ham Pot Pie (not a pie, it’s the ingredients of a meat/veg pie in a pot - a stew with ‘slippy noodles’) and chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. I loved my mom’s and have her recipes.

Favorite "American" food?
Since I've moved abroad the foods I miss the most are Buffalo Wings, Hoagies and Bagels. For whatever reason it seems they're very difficult to recreate outside of the U.S
In terms of other cuisines.

It really depends on my mood and a lot of the answers you'll get are regional. For instance, the comment re: biscuits and gravy is a general indication that the poster is from the Southeastern US (though not guaranteed). In Texas, it might be smoked beef brisket. But if I want something comforting linked to pleasant memories, I'll go for a bowl of Maryland crab soup.
As far as mac & cheese is concerned, there are two majors types: stovetop and baked. Stovetop is faster, but the baseline quality tends to be lower. Baked mac & cheese is more like a casserole of noodles, cheese, and béchamel. Personally, I don't care for either, but I don't like cheese.

I'd disagree that stovetop mac is lower quality, they both are good in different ways. Stovetop is creamier which some people prefer.

I said the baseline quality is generally lower. It can absolutely be done well, but the blue box stuff pulls down the average, IMO.

Mac and Cheese is so good. Both the easy kind from a box and the more involved kind with lots of cheeses.
I'm going to say that my favorite food is taco salad. It's the only food I'll eat for all three meals.
