What brand does Steak & Kidney Pies with actual pieces of kidney?

I've been trying to find the answer to the above question for a while but keep being disappointed.
I've tried Pukka, Pieminster, Own brand supermarket pies... But all either have very small bits you can't taste or the kidney is blended into the gravy.

Wrights Pies of Stoke. They supply most of the 92 football clubs with their pies and they’ve just been bought by a company from Nottingham who are rolling them out across the nation! Doncaster and Leicester are their 2 latest shops and, in my honest opinion, they’re superior to Greggs in every given way.
phatboi23@reddit
Wrights pies and oatcakes are banging.
just don't bother with supermarket oatcakes, they're shit. you're better ordering from an actual oatcake shop online.
MisterMeshuggah@reddit
I’m pretty sure the oatcakes from Wrights are made by Kidsgrove Oatcakes.
phatboi23@reddit
They're probably better then.
As usually see poveys outside of stoke and their supermarket ones are crap.
From the shop they're good.
MisterMeshuggah@reddit
I’m not a fan of Poveys personally and they’ve just bought Highlane Oatcakes so we’ll see how that works out
ema_l_b@reddit
Omg when i left stoke, I could sometimes find oatcakes in tesco (not anymore though) but never a wrights pie. Everyone kept pushing Pukka pies, and they are nowhere near Wrights' level. Might have to get up to Donnie on my next day off..
phatboi23@reddit
supermarket oatcakes fuckin' suck compared to the real thing.
MisterMeshuggah@reddit
A friend of mine found oatcakes in Portsmouth so they do get about but yes, Wrights were strictly a S-o-T thing but that’s changing now! Keep an eye on their socials as they plan on opening more nationwide!

Why don’t you make one yourself?
You can get kidney from the butcher (most sell it but if they don’t then you can usually order one).
You don’t have to over complicate it; use shop bought pastry as a cheat, cut up the kidney, steak, onion to your preferred side, cook it up, wack it in the baking dish that you’ve already lined with the pastry, pop a pastry lid on top and cut a little hole / slit in the top for the steak, bake in the oven. Done.
Once you’ve got the recipe perfect, batch cook a few meals worth and freeze ready for you to cook on your weekday evenings.
phatboi23@reddit
this is the way.
spend a few hours on the weekend making proper ones.

Hollands
Stunning_Account2010@reddit
Yep, Hollands still have them.
Babbies head, chips and gravy in a tray is the food of the gods.
PolizeiW124-Guy@reddit
Thats a Wigan saying ain’t it?
A wiganer on training said that, first time I’d heard it and I’m only at westhoughton.
Stunning_Account2010@reddit
Yep, it is.
I’m not from Wigan (originally Manchester) but love it as suet puddings are like babies heads.
PolizeiW124-Guy@reddit
What part of Manchester?
I grew up in whitefield moved to atherton and eventually westhoughton about 15 year ago.
Stunning_Account2010@reddit
Gorton originally then Stockport (not Manchester) and onto Withington, Fallowfield, Whalley Range, West Didsbury and Ancoats before moving before the hipsters arrived.
PolizeiW124-Guy@reddit
Bit of a roamer then.
I had my first job interview at Ian Skelly’s in Ancoats, my dad owned the church on every street.
Perfect_Consequence9@reddit
They have ruined all the pies lately. Mostly pastries and gravy barely any fillings.
johnomuller@reddit
You will eat your air pie and you will enjoy it.
Rudahn@reddit
Pieminister do a steak and kidney pie (named Kate and Sidney) which has proper chunks.
Unfortunately Hollands aren’t sold where I live so those are the next best thing which are easily available for me.
Dissidant@reddit
Thats the sort of thing I'd rather make at home yes you are paying slightly over the odds for the steak but you will get multiple meals out of it, and its night/day better than the supermarket/branded pies
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
If you have a butchers nearby, they are likely your best bet.
Dreadpirateflappy@reddit
none ofmy butchers nearby sell offal anymore. not sure why.
PolarLocalCallingSvc@reddit
Unpopular I suspect.
People in the UK are weird about meat now. Go into Tesco and look for chicken. There will often be a whole half aisle dedicated to skinless, boneless, chicken breast. Try and find thighs on the bone though and it's confined to a small section on an end.
The only person I see regularly promoting offal is that weirdo Eddie Abbew.
Turbulent_Ad_880@reddit
Try and find a chicken fillet with the skin on. Impossible!
The_Bravinator@reddit
I used to love cooking with skin on bone in chicken breasts when I was living in the US. If you were cooking whole breasts they gave a much better result. Wish I could get them here.
MacaronSea6953@reddit
So I haven’t had one for about 15 years and I make no comments on the quality, but from what I remember, Fray Bentos Steak and Kidney used to have kidney chunks in.
Crittsy@reddit
Sadly, there is now more meat in a condom
Tyruto@reddit
Hollands
WatchingTellyNow@reddit
Homemade pies.
Useful-Eye-8623@reddit
Butchers near Victoria Park in Cardiff makes his own. There’s always a good queue. I’m now thinking about going straight there
Turbulent_Ad_880@reddit
Try Morrison's baked in store ones...the chunky steak is pretty good too. They are normally marked "Consume on day of purchase" though, so no good if you are planning ahead.
Tigweg@reddit
Call Matt at Crumpets Hanoi, his steak and kidney pies have lots of kidneys! I'm surprised at the short supply of kidneys, assuming that they must be cheaper than "steak"
Dreadpirateflappy@reddit
yeah, my mum used to buy all sorts of offal at the butchers, Kidney, liver, brains etc.
None of the butchers near me sell any of it anymore,
RestaurantAntique497@reddit
Why not just make one instead of eating mass produced muck
BillyJoeDubuluw@reddit
Home made is the way with this particular choice of pie, most branded ones will short change you.
slippery-pineapple@reddit
I mean, the kidneys are meant to melt into the pie - when I make it you don't end up with actual chunks of kidney (there are brands that do it I know) but just for what it's worth
Take_a_bd_chance@reddit
Try a proper butcher or local bakery instead of supermarket brands, they’re way more likely to use real chunks of kidney and not just blend it into gravy.
