That's really not at all what the Mac 128's boot chime sounds like. It's too short for one, and too clean and clinical. Just being a 600Hz square wave isn't enough, there is depth and a fuzziness that comes from the somewhat primitive way it generated sound output.

what's playing is a synthesized 600Hz square wave because I didn't have a clean recording of the 128K beep, real one has the PWM fuzziness and longer tail like you're describing, I am still trying to source it.

There's some of course on youtube. Although they may not be as clean as you want, but they do sound better.

If you have a way of running modern macOS, download an app called Mactracker, inside of the bundle there are .m4a files of all of the Mac boot chimes.

I know they're focusing on only the power-on sound, but for the Apple II the sound that made the memory wasn't just the power-on beep but the immediately following machine gun clatter of the disk drive booting.

That N64 one is bogus.
Mastbubbles@reddit (OP)
n64 console is technically silent on cold boot, but the chord + voice intro that played on basically every licensed cartridge, Mario 64, Ocarina, Smash, GoldenEye, Mario Kart, F-Zero X, is what I remember as starting up an N64. that's the platform's sonic identity, even if it's executing from cartridge ROM rather than console BIOS.
It's not Bogus. My bad, I called in a "System" chime which it isn't. Fixing that.

the audio I have is from an Internet Archive "console-boot-sounds" collection labeled "N64", could be 64DD audio mislabeled.
NewBeginningR@reddit
I had never heard it before today, so I learned something.
Bythmark@reddit
Yeah. The descriptions for some of the other sounds are also just completely wrong, or describing some other sound the system makes.
Mastbubbles@reddit (OP)
which sounds and which descriptions?

If you don't include the Sony VAIO boot sound then you don't know ball.
Mastbubbles@reddit (OP)
Vaio was legendary, I remember when they came out with collaboration with the Spiderman movie

I love the Frutiger Aero, Vaporwave sounds

Who doesn't!

Love the chimes. I have the AOL "You've Got Mail" as my phone's email notification sound. I may add some others of these chimes as custom notifications for the fun of it.

I had Nokia’s tune on my iPhone for the longest time

Who includes Vista of all things (not even 7), and doesn't include the long running Mac startup
