14700k is failing. Updated bios, still can’t undervolt or even enable XMP without bsod. Looking to upgrade.

Looking at the microcenter 9800X3D bundle
G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB 2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Granite Ridge AM5
MSI X870E-P PRO WIFI AMD AM5 ATX Motherboard
It’s currently $780 out the door. Seems like a solid deal obviously, should I just stop thinking and pull the trigger ?

You're probably under warranty still. The 14700k is a very solid CPU. Personally, I'd go the warranty route. But if the money isn't too big of a problem, and you just wanna get a working PC again ASAP. Then sure, what you've chosen is solid.

Unfortunately I got it off hardware swap a while ago, so I’ve got no proof of purchase.
ZeroPaladn@reddit
Still try - contact Intel, run their validation tool and you might get through without a receipt.
Also, you could reach out to the person from HWS and ask for said receipt, too! If they can supply it, that solves that problem :)
Unknwn_Ent@reddit
Ah, so you can't even confirm if it was from the original batch that got fried from bad bios/voltage or a new one after all that was fixed :/
SAUCEYOLOSWAG@reddit
SN should have that info. Worth trying to rma regardless
theSkareqro@reddit
You probably can just use the SN to warranty it.

solid? aren't those the ones that had the stability issues that basically caused the massive migration of people over to AMD? datacenters included?

If I tweak anything it’s instant BSOD and then I have to hope and pray it posts. It’s fucking awful. I didn’t find out about the BIOS updates until it was too late, and even that, at this point, would be a Hail Mary.
b-maacc@reddit
The microcode updates don’t do anything for CPUs are already degraded, they prevent the degradation on unaffected CPUs.
Use your warranty with Intel to get a replacement and decide what you want to do from there. The 14700K is still a very good gaming cpu.
desolation0@reddit
This CPU is baked into the degradation path now. Get the warranty to replace it. Then you can choose whether to keep it with the BIOS update that will probably make it fine or sell it used to get what may be a more stable platform. Not using the warranty is leaving money on the table either way since you can't reasonably sell it as-is secondhand.
BlastingStink@reddit
This problem has since been solved and anyone buying a 14700k/14900k now will be fine so long as their BIOS is the latest available.
If they could warranty the CPU, it would genuinely be the best move because the 14700k rocks and their fresh chip wouldn't degrade in the way their first has.
pythonic_dude@reddit
Yeah, but their performance is still solid (assuming they are paired with ddr5 and weren't used prior to all the patches (or you were lucky).
aminy23@reddit
What RAM do you currently have?
Foodstamps4life@reddit (OP)
32 gigs of Corsair vengeance 6000 CL36. I figured I could sell my ram and board to cover some of the cost on the backend. Boards a Strixx z790-E.
littleemp@reddit
Sell the RAM to buy new RAM? Doesn't make a lot of sense.
aminy23@reddit
It's not a bad setup besides the busted CPU. Replacing the CPU is still about half the AM5 cost.
I'd probably sell the MicroCenter RAM as new in box instead of your RAM as used if you get their bundle.
LGA1851 is also an option:

My rig is pretty top notch, obviously the cpu is a bummer. I had not thought about the new intel chip really since Nova lake will move to LGA1954. Knowing that AM5 will have an upgrade path is alluring to me.
Reading more into the 270k is definitely food for thought. Also I think you’re right about the ram lol.
jbshell@reddit
If already have a solid GPU, and cannot warranty CPU, would go 9800X3D bundle for sure.
slavicslothe@reddit
Just get another LGA 1700 cpu. The ddr5 isnt worth 750$ and your gpu cant tell the difference between the x3d and the Intel options.
