5700X3D to 7800X3D in 4K
Recently I just upgraded to 5080 and using a 4K 240hz OLED monitor.
Currently still using AM4 I built quite sometime ago: 5700X3D and 32gb 3200mhz ddr4.
Most of the games my GPU can run 95 to 99 percent, only certain games like wuthering waves (in city) and NTE where my GPU usage will drop to 70 to 80 percent. Is it my 5700X3D bottlenecking my 5080?
With the crazy price of ram right now, if I upgrade to 7800X3D will it bring noticeable performance increase over 5700X3D especially in 4k?

Possibly on CPU intense games, I wouldn't think so for most games at 4k though

This swap would only be helpful with path tracing or really heavy rt workloads on 5090s and sometimes 4090s. Maybe with multi frame gen on well optimized titles like pragmata of 5080. A 9800x3d is probably the better pick if you are going to swap mbs, lot of work and often requires fresh OS install to avoid random issues.

Why does the CPU bottleneck during path tracing? I figured that would be even more GPU dependent.

Test it: Drop your graphics setting to lowest. If the game runs much better, then you were GPU bound before. If there is no difference, then it might be worth upgrading. Doubt it though.

I have 5070ti and 7800X3D. I play only in 4K. My avg CPU usage is around 30-35%. Don’t even bother.

it will 99% be a waste of money. on 4k it's basically the same cpu.

Only in very specific CPU bound scenarios it can maybe bring a noticeable difference
Everything else you’ll likely be getting similar FPS, but better lows. 4k is mostly all GPU performance

You can use this chart for a rough idea of performance. 4090 used here is better than a 5080. So you have less GPU overhead aka these % and fps differences will be tighter. You can use the 5800x3d on the chart here as your 5700x3d reference basically.

Yes, it's possible that your CPU is bottlenecking a 5080 in specific games and scenes. Upgrading to a 7800X3D would likely improve your performance. It's really hard to say by how much.
But, only you can decide if it's worth it to you. Are you not getting an acceptable level of performance? I have to assume that you're still getting an outstanding gaming experience with your current hardware.
