Do you think we will live long enough to see QR codes on gravestones?

Or perhaps a newer version? I feel like it might actually be nice to go and be linked to media as a memorial. Get Rick Rolled from beyond the grave. One last troll.

Mine will send you to a reminder to drink your Ovaltine…or Rick Roll…
forever_wow@reddit
It could play this bit from Seinfeld:
“What's the deal with Ovaltine? It comes in a round container, you put it in a round glass, why don't they call it Roundtine?"

We'll probably live long enough to where the dead are recycled into Soylent Green and gravestones won't even be a thing.

Mu boss from a job 10ish years ago thought he had a million dollar idea with gravestone QR codes...
Just dump me in a hole and plant a tree in me, please!
delldarlin@reddit
This is the way. Chuck my corpse in the ground, plant a tree under my junk, & my eternal soul will rest peacefully.

By the time that happens, qr codes will be replaced with another standard. It's already happening.

THIS
FoppyRETURNS@reddit
No one will bother getting a gravestone
bikeonychus@reddit
I just want the word 'No.' written on my grave. Nothing else. Just 'no'. Not even my name.
My name would never be remembered, but my final joke would be.
59apache01@reddit
Who knows, in another decade or two you might be able to get a life size hologram of the person who's buried at a particular grave.
_ism_@reddit
My dystopian future fiction idea has all the cell networks demolished so I think i want a regular headstone engraving for wandering heroes to look at.
jjmawaken@reddit
That will suck for the guy who has a message on his tombstone and they get a 404 error because the page no longer works :)
graveybrains@reddit
Shit, I'd pay for a 410 or a 418 😂
Kiethblacklion@reddit
If I did this, it would have to be some sort of video game reference.
"I'm sorry, but your relative is in another grave"
WendyPortledge@reddit
No, we don’t have room to put everyone in a cemetery. Graves are not as popular anymore.
And honestly, QR codes are barely in my life. Folks online seem to talk about them way more than they are actually being used, at least in Canada where I live.
alvinofdiaspar@reddit
Never scam unknown QR codes - in any case I am sure someone came up with this idea already.
Negative-Wrap95@reddit
I'm not getting a gravestone. I've already got an old Folgers can.

Strong Bad: Listen, you probably don't know it, but I'm the reason you're here.
bokehtoast@reddit
It's more like how long until we decide graveyards are a waste of space and your grave is nothing but a QR code linking to the location of your body with thousands of others in some data center or something
WeAreNotAmused2112@reddit
It can be done now.

I don't know about QR codes but I do know that an absolute complete stranger. how did my daughter to find agrave.com and she was cremated?
my daughter died when she was 12 and I was googling something about her when her name popped up on that website.. I had never even heard of it, but I was able to track down the name of the woman who added..
I emailed her and asked her if she added my daughter and why and she said yeah she just noticed she hadn't been at it yet..
she asked if she wanted me to take it down. I said no. I guess it's fine but like what a fucking creepy thing to do
JollyJeanGiant83@reddit
I don't know about that woman in particular, but there are people who index graves on sites like that as a public service. Usually it's to help people find their several-generations-removed relatives, but in this case, maybe one of your daughter's classmates will be able to visit her grave one day. It's unfortunate that cemetery didn't include a service to warn or ask you about it, though. I believe some places have policies.
Perfect_Mix9189@reddit
Yes I was weirded out at first but then I thought it's not a bad idea and definitely different generations of family members might want to look at it when they're older. it was just a shock at the time.
SickOfNormal@reddit
I'll take a jedi or viking funeral please. Cook me on a pyre!
JollyJeanGiant83@reddit
Yes, these are already a thing, especially for the younger generations and tragic deaths.
throwawayfromPA1701@reddit
I might just do this for mine. Thanks for the great idea!
catsoncrack420@reddit
Actually a great idea. Hell you could charge ppl to come to the cemetery to access memories of the dead. I know quite a few is like to visit. And I ain't even talking about Arlington.
Funkdamentalist@reddit
I think it's a great idea! I looked it up quick and there are already companies doing this, like Life's QR which is an add on plaque, or this company etches it straight into the stone RRA Monuments
Dylan_Is_Gay_lol@reddit
I hope so.
