My kids will never know the stigma of having the entire world of popular people openly mock them for their fandoms and make them ashamed to reveal their true passions in public. I sometimes try to explain, but it doesn't really come across.
Of course to me a lot of this actually explains much of the "toxicity" in these fandoms that has emerged in the years since. When those same popular people who incessantly mocked you suddenly take ownership of the thing they mocked you over, it can't help but sometimes result in a bad reaction.
Yes, this sketch was "all in good fun" but I think its also a great example of things that were very much not done in good fun during that era.

We should bully Star Wars nerds again. mAY tHE 4TH BE with You, ReVeNGE OF ThE 5th... STFU

Most of the "nerds" he was interviewing were laughing along with the joke, and the laughing looked genuine to me. Also the overlap between people in that line and people who were fans of Conan's show was probably pretty big. Conan's show was more for the geeks/nerds/weirdos than it was for "popular" people, especially when this clip aired.

Dude I got tortured at school daily for like 7 years. And I still think this clip is fuckin hilarious.

Whenever I hear Triumph's voice it makes me think of Adam Sandler's talking goat bit.

OMG I couldn’t get enough of this vid back in the day.
I didn’t camp out but I was at that theater, on opening day back in 02 to see Episode II. The line was wrapped around three blocks. I miss the Ziegfeld. It was the best theater to see all the big franchise films at. Not only was it gorgeous but it just attracted the best audiences.
