Being Gen X there are a lot of us who are now grandparents, what is the joy? Is it the fact your kids having their own kids or it's because the family name continues?

Not having kids myself I see grandparents over the moon with their grandkids but never really understood the dynamics of the excitement, is it seeing your children having their own or the family name continues because you have already gone through raising your own children or you're just hoping that your grandkids dish out the same things to your children did to you for the karma effect? What's your perspective?
