I’ve met that plane. It identifies as a 707.
Pan Am would have been 100 next year. I wish JetBlue had more money and did a tribute plane even though they are not a direct descendant. Delta doing it would feel gross given the circumstances.

Nothing going on. Nostalgia is just in - in case you didn't notice from the Pan Am flight a few months back. I am fully expecting to see some TWA and Republic (Blue Goose) liveries in the not too distant future 👍

I fueled this plane today heading to PHX from DEN!

dang what was this taken on, looks absolutely awesome

iPhone 16 pro but I am no pro photographer 🤣

Looks to just be a phone, but the outdoor conditions were juuuuust right to make this great shot!

This is one of United's retro liveries.
HyperFixati0n@reddit (OP)
Do you know if they actually fly passengers? Is it some kind of marketing campaign?
Cxopilot@reddit
Yeah continental and untied merged back in 2010. It’s a heritage livery paying tribute
Hot_Net_4845@reddit
It's just a normal plane in a special livery. Hundreds of airlines have them
HyperFixati0n@reddit (OP)
Thank you! It’s my first time seeing something like this. Very cool 😎
Soft_Language_5987@reddit
American has a bunch of them. I like the old America west livery but this is my favorite of the lot
usmcmech@reddit
Most of the US major airlines have one bird painted in old nolstagia colors including the former airlines that merged into the company today.
They usually have the current design on the tail fin with the body in the old "Ozark Airways" design.
Fisheye4848@reddit
Why would it be in a gate at the airport if it didn’t fly passangers??

Don’t get why you’re being downvoted for. Take my upvote!

Got to fly this back to LA from CMH a few weeks ago, looks good in person. Was excited to be on something unique and UA app even showed me it would be this plane prior to take off. F seats were decent too. They're doing a solid turnaround over there.
Gullible_Side@reddit
You had to go to CMH? Sorry to hear
MidnightSurveillance@reddit
lol it was actually CLE, but same thing.
winniedemon@reddit
Somehow that's equally an insult to both CMH and CLE 😅 Makes way more sense to send a Continental to CLE though
MidnightSurveillance@reddit
lol I doubt ops was thinking about the livery when assigning the tail.
Key-Raccoon-4913@reddit
ouch. as a CMH regular... this sucks

Every 737NG at United came from Continental or CO’s orders post-merger. The original United, just like US Airways/Northwest, never ordered NGs. UA retired all 737s in 2009 (feel bad for those that paid extra to fly the retirement flight, like the guy who bought Tom Brady’s retirement trophy I suppose) https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna33533907

Some of these things are trademark related.
In order for a trademark to remain valid, it typically has to be used, displayed, or marketed. If you don’t use it for 10 years, technically, someone else could use your trademark/icon right out from under you.

Some of these old liveries and names are put on planes, not only to be nostalgic, but to fulfill keeping those items in force and away from others.
