Unexpected 25kt sustained, doing 8-9kt broad reaching 4 hr trip. Cold but so fun. Hope you guys in the north like me get out soon!

You’ll only leave that winch handle in one time after you see it launched overboard…..

I recognise the kiffeyeh a mile away :), despite the cold, looks like you've had an awesome time, stay safe out there 🍀!

The stokedness quotient is infectious. Lovely boat, beautiful day!

Jesus Christ, wear PFDs.
If you sail long enough you are going in that water.

We are brotha albeit not ideally under the jacket when it got colder

Get yourself a non-inflating one, like a Stohlquist Drifter. The nice thing is it is actually warm ; )
Also, if you do fall in, your movement is far less impeded.

Thanks for the advice 👍👍 will look into it

It does have a limit, like it's not for crossing the Pacific. But I would say ok for Lake Michigan. It has pockets, so I keep my rigging knife, whistle, multi-tool, in the. pockets all the time. (At night, should have a light but don't at the moment). It takes some getting used to, since there's bulk and you can't quite slip as close to the stays as you can without it. Cheers! And thanks for the awesome video!

Great video. I’m wondering how PFDs inflate under clothing however. I’ve never been so humbled as when I fell in. Boat took 15 minutes to pick me up. I was so cold, I couldn’t climb the step ladder to get into the boat. Without the pfd? Who knows. Two big lessons:
1) muscles stop working efficiently when your hypothermic (I’m female and very thin) 2) even with a competent crew a MOB maneuver can take time

Oof that sounds rough - thanks for sharing hard earned lessons
