Laptop down

After 3 years of campus use, my laptop has developed a screen issue and is no longer functioning properly. I’m now trying to figure out how to continue learning coding using only my phone.

That’s tough, but you can still manage basics on your phone for a while, just focus on small practice and concepts until you’re able to get access to a proper setup again.

That sounds rough, I’d probably struggle too. From what I’ve tried, using apps like Sololearn or Mimo helped a bit for basics, and you can also use something like Replit in your phone browser to actually run code. It’s not the most comfortable setup, but it works enough to keep learning until you get access to a laptop again.

Buy a cheap monitor and plug it in to your laptop

As everybody else said.
After you get an external monitor working make sure you have a good backup regime in place. I would recommend at least two copies on an alternating schedule and refresh them frequently (daily).

See if you can find a replacement screen module for the laptop, good chance you can, and assuming its not glued in its a pretty easy fix. Otherwise yeah do what others have said, get a separate monitor for it. You could also try installing proxmox (this is a hypervisor os) and a piece of software called guacamole and then you could use this laptop from anywhere, you would just leave the laptop plugged in.

a refurbished laptop like a lenovo t480s will cost you like 100€

If it's just a screen issue, try hooking the laptop up to a monitor. Test it out on a friends monitor to verify. Then buy one at a thrift store or pawn shop.

You can also get decent portable monitors if you need it to work on the go.

If it's just a screen issue, then get a cheap monitor.

That's rough timing especially after 3 years of getting used to your setup. You could try using mobile code editors but real talk, coding on phone is gonna be pretty painful for anything beyond basic practice. Maybe check if your campus has computer labs you can use temporarily while you figure out laptop situation?
