I finally did it. I ordered off of the 55+ menu!

I said, "I'll be ordering from the SENIOR menu." Loud and proud, and sitting tall in the booth.
And the 20 something year old pretty server didn't even blink.
No I.D. needed, my life is over now.

Junior_Statement_262@reddit
There's an actual separate menu for 55+??? I've heard of senior discount, but not a separate menu. Wow!!!
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Around these parts it's always on the back of the menu. I'd say more places have it than not. But, that might be because I live in a retirement area.
KickstandSF@reddit
I throw my aarp card down at Dennys for my 15% discount like a boss. An old, decrepit boss.
Wrong_Pen6179@reddit
Hey! At least you made it to Denny’s and aren’t stuck in an old age home!
Scotthebb@reddit
They have a lot of similarities.
PacRat48@reddit
MotherFuckinEeyore@reddit
Senior is 55+? 😞
famnf@reddit
That's a relatively new development. Used to be 65 a couple of decades ago.
R-Voodoo@reddit
How does senior move forward, but retirement age move back? That's weird
Fugue_State76@reddit
Remember, we used to think 40 was old 😵💫
MotherFuckinEeyore@reddit
Never trust anybody over 40
sfdsquid@reddit
I thought it was 30.
bjb8@reddit
After watching Logan's Run as a teen I thought anyone over 30 was old.
Seachica@reddit
Forget the restaurant discounts. I celebrated getting the discount at the nursery. Plants are the real crack at 55!
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Man, I love plants! We had a freeze this winter and it killed a lot of my flowers, and they didn't come back in the Spring. But weeds did, of course. I was about to mow the lawn, and I saw these beautiful purple flowers blooming in the middle of my lawn. So I went and got a shovel and put them in a hanging container. This happened a couple more times and now I have really nice maintenance free flowers (because they are weeds!) for FREE.
I don't think I'll be buying plants anymore and will just search for weeds I like.
famnf@reddit
A weed is just a plant growing where somebody doesn't want it.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
That's right. After fighting with nature my entire life, I have finally started working with it. And it feels so much better.
sfdsquid@reddit
I object to plantism.
Wrong_Pen6179@reddit
WHAT?! You mean I’ve been missing out on two years of these discounts?! That’s real tragedy!
Cygnerose@reddit
As a Master Gardener I applaud this!!!
Hellvira138@reddit
Wait- where do you get plant discounts?!
Seachica@reddit
If you are in Seattle, Swanson’s Nursery has a discount for seniors (10%) every Thursday. Age 55+
anothercynic2112@reddit
Does anyone remember what 55 looked like when we were in high school?
I'm just saying we're not that ... Right?
Right?
famnf@reddit
Right. Also, when we were in high school you couldn't get senior citizen discounts until you were 65.
ItsLikeARewardAZ@reddit
You had a good life.
AnalogPickleCat@reddit
My dad (who died last year at age 88) started asking for a senior discount in his 40’s because (1) no one bothered to look at his I.D. and (2) he loved free stuff.
e1p1@reddit
My dad did the same thing in his fifties.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Wow! So, he got 40+ years of senior discount? That man knew how to play the game. RIP. I watched my late father ask for the manager at Walmart and try to talk them down on the price of some small appliance. I also saw him order blackened trout at a seafood restaurant and then complain it looked "burnt" for a free meal. Of course, he ate all of it except for one bite to show the manager.
S99B88@reddit
I see from the photo you got a coffee, what else did you order? 😂
jk_pens@reddit
I took this photo of an IHOP menu recently to commemorate my first foray into the delights of the old people menu. I had the “55+ Breakfast Sampler” with egg whites.
bankrobba@reddit
The problem is we all remember when the prices were half that.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Was it everything you dreamed of and more?
BartStarrPaperboy@reddit
For the record, it was 5:15pm
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
It sure was.

Outta my brain….🎶🎶🎶
Ordinary_Sail_414@reddit
I got offered the senior discount at the grocery store. I happily accepted it. Apparently it's for 60 and over. I'm 55.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Never, ever turn down a discount - or a free meal! Good on you.
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
I haven’t listened to terrestrial radio for a long time because I listen to podcasts and streaming online radio.
Yesterday I actually tuned in to a local fm radio oldies station because my cell had no signal. They were playing Blues Traveler. Blues Traveler!
The last time I listened to an oldies station they played Elvis and crap like that. I’m ready to buy depends and pick out a casket now…
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
I know you're a real Gen-X'r because you just said something completely unrelated to my post. Keep changing the subject as it keeps everyone off-balance.
Well, my potato plants just died. I guess that means that it's time to dig them up and see what I got. Last year they were the size of grapes!
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
Oh it’s related. Related to getting old. By the way, I farted.
MorningBrewNumberTwo@reddit
Was there a bonus gift? 🩲
Three3Jane@reddit
Like those Facebook comments when you post about something and the response from our parents/their siblings just gets wild.
You post about how your teenage kid is finally learning to drive, maybe include a cute pic of them in the car, and they'll respond with something "THATS SO AWESOME HONEY. . . ALSO YOUR GREAT AUNT LINDA HAS ARTHRITIS REALLY BAD AND IS USING OXYGEN NOW. WE PRAY FOR HER EVERY SUNDAY IN THE CHURCH CIRCLE BUT SHE ISNT GETTING BETTER BUT THE LORD DOESNT GIVE US MORE THAN WE CAN HANDLE. LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU ALL EVEN THOUGH YOU DONT CALL US VERY OFTEN"
VitaminStrange@reddit
Oh, no no no. Your life isn't over, it's the beginning of the end.
I left some carrots in my fridge too long and they started sprouting, so I planted them. Now they are thoroughly dead.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Hahaahahaha!
Punkrawk78@reddit
The first time I heard Nirvana on the local “classic rock” station I just about cried.
Three3Jane@reddit
"Mom, you really have to listen to the Nirvana 'Unplugged' album!"
^(\~my 17 year old when "Something In The Way" became famous [again] because it was played a few times in the movie The Batman.)
SatanicPanic619@reddit
I feel like that was ten years ago too lol
wyohman@reddit
You haven't listened to the radio in 50 years?
purplishfluffyclouds@reddit
What the heck even is a 55+ menu? Like, applesauce and pudding? lol
SatanicPanic619@reddit
liver and onions?
MorningBrewNumberTwo@reddit
purplishfluffyclouds@reddit
Ew. That has never been good, haha
Jealous_Crazy9143@reddit
Basically the kids menu, except with coffee and has old-timey decorations on it instead of cartoon characters.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
No, I had roast beef with mashed potatoes and some fruit on the side.
ChadTitanofalous@reddit
Pre-chewed?
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Yes! It was chunks. I rather enjoyed that.
SirPonix@reddit
Usually smaller portions for a lower price.
mettaCA@reddit
Now you have me wondering.
What Discounts Can Seniors Get?
https://www.ncoa.org/article/what-discounts-can-seniors-get/
PollutionZero@reddit
Good on ya!
I order Happy Meals at McDonalds because that's more than enough for me. Nobody blinks, and I get a toy!
Caligirlporvida@reddit
I’ve been doing that for 50 years it feels like 😂😂😂.
HighOnGoofballs@reddit
What type of restaurants have a senior menu?
Paint-by-numberrs@reddit
Blackbear Diner does.
Bilbaw_Baggins@reddit
IHop or Denny's does over 55.
HighOnGoofballs@reddit
Who knew. I’ve obviously heard of a discount but not a dedicated menu
Bilbaw_Baggins@reddit
Ihop has the dedicated menu, I think your right though Dennys is just an old farts discount.
OperaBunny@reddit
When I was much younger, used to go to Denny's with older relatives who took pleasure in ordering from the 55 and over menu, and now that I can, Denny's gets replaced by a Chick-fil-A. Need to drive about 20 minutes with traffic just for that menu. Will probably do it just so I can get that breakfast slam discount.
Sufficient-Pin-481@reddit
How to get a 50% boost in your tips as a waitress/waiter. Ask for ID for people ordering off the senior menu who are obviously over 60
WokeAssMessiah@reddit
What is a senior menu?
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Anything else you need help with, just ask.
HipposPooToo@reddit
I truly enjoy the “55 or Better”. They respect their elders.
Jmazoso@reddit
It’s for men at the Mexican place
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
I was actually going to make that joke but decided not too.
lundah@reddit
Usually smaller portions at a lower price. I’ve been ordering from it since taking a GLP-1 as my appetite is much lower.
Repulsive_Cancel756@reddit
I get senior discounts at my local Fry's food store. I just turned 51 I need to find some good moisturizer.
Imaginary_Office1749@reddit
Wait what
More_Law6245@reddit
The senior perks I'm now getting, I just think of it as a reward because I got this far in life and made some good decisions to ensure I'm still alive to enjoy it.
CntBlah@reddit
My wife gets the senior discount at Harris Teeter all the time, without asking. She loves it, we both laugh.
Pocket_pantbags@reddit
At the grocery store the other day, they gave me a 3% senior discount. I didn’t even ask for it, I didn’t know they had one! I’m “only” 54 but I didn’t correct the cashier.
yeahwellokay@reddit
Why a 3% discount? Isn't it normally 10%? On a $100 order, that saves $3.
mjh8212@reddit
I’m 47 and order off it. One thing about losing a significant amount of weight was I looked older. One place is 65 and older and neither me or my husband qualify but if a certain person is working she always gives it to us we don’t know her or why besides I walk with a cane and have some wrinkles.
warrenao@reddit
You need to move up in the world with these Power Geezing techniques:
Hold the menu at arm’s length and squint at it. “This print is TOO SMALL."
Mispronounce well-known but non-English words. “I want the CHI-POATLE chili hamburger."
Get really precious about particulars. “Does it have MAYONNAISE? I can’t eat MAYONNAISE. It gives me WIND. Make sure it doesn’t have any MAYONNAISE on it.” (N.b. this is a great thing to do with things that are obligate mayonnaise-heavy recipes, such as tuna salad or a BLT.)
You bet you need to shout. Like you’re going deaf, and so is everyone around you, in sympathy.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
5 stars! I'd like to buy you lunch just to see this in action.
warrenao@reddit
GET OFF MY LAWN YOU PUNK
RCA2CE@reddit
I didn’t know they had that
I don’t want senior portions though, I like to pretend I have the metabolism of a 25 year old
I don’t
D05wtt@reddit
I’m loving the senior citizen status. The discounts, from the annual pool pass at the county pool, to senior citizen discounts for mobile phone plans…f’ing awesome.
bagolaburgernesss@reddit
I don't get peeps who get insulted by this. As an elder GenX, I mis-spent my youth pretending to be of age and as soon as I got in the middle ages, tried for the 55+ discounts, even while 50. Saving money? Yes, please!
KitchenNazi@reddit
I’ll know I’m old when I go to a restaurant with a senior menu.
National-Evidence408@reddit
A few months ago I was so pissed. We booked a tour from a hotel concierge and arrived at the attraction and learned I could have saved $2 on my ticket as a 55 year old senior citizen. On the plus side the concierge didnt view me as old looking. On the down side I overspent by $2. FYI - Cape Canaveral.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Those rockets are pretty huge up close, aren't they? What did you think of the Saturn V? I get to watch launches all the time right from my office window.
National-Evidence408@reddit
Was pretty awesome but the damn bus line took forever so we didnt get to see much once we were out there. Even after a week at disney the line was somehow worse at cape canaveral. And we ran out of time so didnt get to see the artemis building. In any case it was a decent break from disney world.
Downtown_Map_2482@reddit
I can’t do it. I just can’t.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
"Whether you believe you can, or whether you believe you can't - you're right. - Henry Ford."
Downtown_Map_2482@reddit
Ha! I took a workshop a few years back and the instructor regularly referenced this quote.
PotatoesPancakes@reddit
Tuesday is senior day at a local supermarket. Imagine my feelings when some teenage employee ran to my self-service checkout to apply the senior discount without my asking. I've been young looking my entire life but I guess my looks finally caught up with my age.
LayerNo3634@reddit
Culver's - order of the kids menu, then ask for the senior discount. More than food.
mrdm242@reddit
There's a new Culver's down the street from me... I'm definitely trying this!
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
I like this strategy! Do I need to bring a cane with me as a possible deterrent in case they don't play ball?
heatherm70@reddit
This morning I was remembering being carded until well into my 40's for buying booze so I guess this will be the next time I have to show ID - when I order from the old people menu 😅
Did_it_in_Flint@reddit
A couple of years ago, I was carded for beer at the store and then offered the senior discount at Wendy's a few minutes later. I decided that I must be exactly middle-aged on that particular day.
Tough_Arm_2454@reddit
And you were still hungry afterward. The portions are small.
StandingDave@reddit
I realized a long time ago (57 now) that my body doesn't need that much food to feel full. Helps keep the weight off as wel
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
I almost licked the plate so that would be a "yes".
digawina@reddit
I've never heard of, or seen, a senior menu at a restaurant.
StandingDave@reddit
Mainly large chains
wandernwade@reddit
Denny’s has one
uncleawesome@reddit
IHOP has one
lobaybliss@reddit
Our liquor store gives senior discounts on Mondays :)
Rikkitikkitabby@reddit
I wanted to be offended at my first senior discount, but it was at a cannabis dispensary for 20% off.
Dusty_Sequins@reddit
Mine was at a thrift shop. 50%
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
ReasonableCrow7595@reddit
I'm getting the senior discount without asking now. I know I'm going through some health stuff and look terrible, but damn. I'm only 56! I'm also happy to take the discount so you won't catch me complaining at the counter. Did you know Einstein's has a senior discount? I didn't.
vinegar_strokes68@reddit
Ok grandpa, time to get you to bed
macbookwhoa@reddit
I don’t think I’ve ever been to a place that has a 55+ menu.
Open_Appointment1091@reddit
I was 56 when I got that discount, which I didn’t even ask for at a local Chinese buffet. My wife, who was 53 at the time, gutted me like a fish. It was fair.
BlownCamaro@reddit (OP)
Hahaha I bet she enjoyed that!
jenorama_CA@reddit
I had gastric bypass 13 years ago at 40. I’ve been ordering off the senior menu for ages! Some places care, some places don’t.
