When things wear out

I bought this wallet somewhere in Texas at the end of the last century. I have taken it to the Korean Shoe repair person about 5-6 times in the last 30 ish years. I have newer wallets. Nice ones that my kids and now grandkids have bought me.
But this one fits. It’s molded to my ass. It doesn’t hurt my hips. It’s like a good pair of boots. How long is too long to keep something that’s seen better days. Side note, the shoe repair dude says he won’t fix ‘no more’

I am sad for you.

I call shenanigans, there is no condom indention that would be indicative of an 80's wallet.
This is a joke, please don't go all bananas people.

Bought my first leather belt in the mid 90's. Had to replace it about 4 years ago. Cost me about three times as much for the same quality.

I had a very nice high-end wallet that I used for 20 years. I put off getting a new one for years despite the liner being gone, most of the stitching starting to come loose and lots of raggedy, worn edges, I finally gave in when I found this one day.

Ok Jules!

TripMaster478@reddit
I honestly thought it was some kind of baked good as well.
Cannagurlie@reddit
Me too. 🤣

Just now broken in well.
Dramatic_Side_856@reddit
Is that quarter attached to the outside of the wallet?
CWCyning@reddit
It looks like a dollar, either hammered or copied.
Dramatic_Side_856@reddit
Right. It could even be a pressed quarter, except for shape.
CWCyning@reddit
No, the design is a Morgan dollar, minted from the late 19th into the 20th century. Looking just a bit closer the denomination is visible.
Starkville@reddit
Do you have to stop using it? Shit, slap some duct tape on it and keep going if you have to.
And find someone who loves working with leather to repair it. They’ll understand.
RF-Guye@reddit
Stop carrying a wallet in your back pocket...
wyohman@reddit
Where else would a man carry his wallet?
RF-Guye@reddit
In your front pocket, prevents back issues especially if you drive a lot...and helps with pickpocket to some degree.
As a Man, I transitioned back to front years ago. So far no one has asked Me for my Card.
Cannagurlie@reddit
Men should at least take it out of the back pocket when they get in the car or will be sitting for long periods of time.
Chad_Hooper@reddit
wyohman@reddit
I have no back issues because my wallet only contains what I need. My keys and mobile take up the front.
Dramatic_Side_856@reddit
In his murse.
RF-Guye@reddit
Ask your Mom.
Dramatic_Side_856@reddit
Chain wallet?

Interesting wallet. I'm both intrigued and disgusted.

That thumbnail looks like a cut of beef.
slade797@reddit
It is a cut of beef, technically.
F-Cloud@reddit
True!

I thought it was imaging of a knee and the title still made sense.
scorpious09@reddit
Must’ve finally dawned on the shoe repair guy that that’s been molded to your ass for the last 30ish years
modi123_1@reddit
It's been a good run of use and repair, but eventually it comes to an end.
That being said, if you don't feel interested in getting an Ariat or other branded wallet of that same caliber it maybe high time to make one yourself.
I've gotten into amateur leather working over the last few years and I can say with minimal tools you could replicate your wallet in your own fit and fashion. Drop me a message if you would like some tips.
ggibby@reddit
This.
If you have a local Tandy Leather shop, those folks can put the tools & materials in your hands, and probably offer classes. Adam Savage recently did a Tested piece on how low the barrier to entry is for leatherwork, and how quickly you can make something you're proud of.
Alternative-Row-84@reddit
Interesting. I’m taking a look into this.
Illustrious-Egg-5839@reddit
I’d replace it but I’d also keep it.
DoublecursedAngel@reddit
Go to the king ranch saddle shop website and get yourself a new wallet. Will be the last one you ever need.
TowerGuy_Tx@reddit
Didn’t know people actually still wrote out checks.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
That isn't wore out it just looks broken in.

I had a black leather belt I bought in 1997 finally become too annoying to loop through my pants this year.

Is that an egg sandwich, toasted?
Mortimer452@reddit
Man, it occurs to me I'm almost 50 and outside of a couple velcro ones I had as a kid (snoopy, camo) I think I've had three wallets my entire life
Sector__7@reddit
I think it’s time to find a new Korean shoes repair person so the wallet can live on! There’s always a way to change a no to a yes with enough money.

If it’s time to find a new one, Etsy is a good place to look.

Alas, it may be time to say goodbye to that wallet if they won't fix it any more.🥺 My husband made one for himself while learning some basic leather working. He loves it!
However, your comparison of it to a pair of good boots made me think about a wonderful exchange between characters in the wheel of time about boots. It's such an iconic moment/exchange, that I knew I'd be able to find it in milliseconds shared on its own as a post because it's so iconic. 🤗😁🥾👢
The thing about good boots...

Also from a time when everything lasted a lifetime . I miss those days.
