Bean on toast, do you have cheese on top of or under the beans?

I think cheese is better underneath. Keeps the toast integrity and forms a nice base for the beans.
So mine goes, toast- butter- cheese- beans- black pepper
Queasy_Culture3897@reddit
No.... Just no... Beans on buttered toast with a bit of black pepper... No cheese wanted/needed...
saem16@reddit
I always mix it in and melt it then sprinkle on top
Different-Let4338@reddit
Like you put the cheese into the pan? That's genius
saem16@reddit
Yep, mix it all together and then add a bit on top for extra. Makes such a difference
JennyW93@reddit
Underneath and on top
braceforimpact@reddit
This is the way
Alth12@reddit
I put cheddar underneath and parmesan on top.
kalendral_42@reddit
This is the way
CakeCatsClay@reddit
The only acceptable way.

Flithy
geeered@reddit
And mixed into the beans. On cheesy bread.
I-Spot-Dalmatians@reddit (OP)
I must admit I did add a little sprinkle on top with mine yesterday…
MaxMouseOCX@reddit
I don't have cheese too often, but some fried onions in there goes quite well.
ceehred@reddit
Cheese under, to melt it a bit. Fried egg on top for an extra treat, perhaps dashed with some worcester or brown sauce. Sliced & fried brown mushrooms on top of all that, if I can be arsed.
SlickPillock@reddit
Cheese on top. I live in a civilised country.
Euphoric_Rough_5245@reddit
Toast, butter, cheese with a dash of Worcester, beans with a dash of brown sauce then more cheese.
TurbulentEffect99@reddit
Cheese first would be cheese on toast with beans. So, by definition, it would be beans first, and then cheese on top.
OscarsWhiskers@reddit
On top, but you also need marmite as well
I-Spot-Dalmatians@reddit (OP)
How is the marmite applied? I assume (and somewhat hope) it’s spread on the toast and not just drizzled/ dolloped on top??
OscarsWhiskers@reddit
Butter, marmite, beans, grated cheese.
Noctemme@reddit
On top.
If it’s underneath, that’s cheese on toast with beans.
clfhw@reddit
Cheese on the beans. I add seasoning to the beans, so there would just be too many flavours going on in the bean sauce otherwise.
I however have ‘beans and toast’ not ‘beans on toast’, since I don’t like soggy bread.
jungleddd@reddit
If you put the cheese on the toast and beans on top, you don’t get soggy bread. The cheese forms a barrier which prevents the bean juice soaking in.
jungleddd@reddit
I’ve always done:
Make normal cheese on toast - 2 slices, toast one side, turn, add cheese in slices, grill until melted.
Meanwhile, cook beans in a saucepan, grate cheese into beans and melt it all right in together until desired thickness/cheesyness is achieved.
Put cheese on toast on a plate, pour cheesy beans over.
Variations include: onion salt on the cheese on toast part.
Grated Parmesan to serve.
Worcester sauce added to beans.
TazTazTAZTazTaz_@reddit
Parm on beans toast is vile
jungleddd@reddit
You do you. I’ll do me.
Gildor12@reddit
Mixed with the beans in the pan
captainhazreborn@reddit
Both, obviously.
Defiant_Practice5260@reddit
Just one bean?
Tested-Trio-Father@reddit
Both
60percentsexpanther@reddit
Cheesy beans on toast is much better with a tin of tuna involved.
I-Spot-Dalmatians@reddit (OP)
60percentsexpanther@reddit
Don't knock it until you've tried. tuna goes equally well in salads, sandwiches and beans on toast
miowiamagrapegod@reddit
Both
JarJarBinksSucks@reddit
The triple whammy of mix the cheese in the beans, underneath and on top
alfa_omega@reddit
On top ya weirdo 🤣
Arsewhistle@reddit
Are none of you grilling your cheese?
Cheese on top, then chucked under the grill is the best option, often with some Worcestershire sauce.
If you're bread is going too soggy, then you're using bread that's too thinly sliced
Dannypan@reddit
Plate, cheese, toast, butter, cheese, butter, toast, cheese, beans, cheese, more beans, more cheese.
ContextRules@reddit
Mixed in the beans for me
DamoclesBDA@reddit
If I'm having beans on toast the cheese is best left in the fridge.
popsy13@reddit
I’ve always just made cheese on toast with beans on top. Toast gets soggy otherwise, I do beans with toast, a bowl of beans, toast on the side
siblingrevelryagain@reddit
Me and my 3 teens had beans on toast for lunch an hour ago-I have beans in a bowl with cheese on top and toast on the side to dip. My eldest has toast-cheese-beans, and my youngest two have the cheese stirred through the beans first
I-Spot-Dalmatians@reddit (OP)
A true British family
Mammoth_Spend_5590@reddit
Cheese always under the beans
Drwynyllo@reddit
Why not both? :-)
Cheese
Beans
Cheese
Toast
oldie349@reddit
Neither. One of those new fangled ideas
Optimal_Tension9657@reddit
I always put the grated cheese into the pan with the beans and cook them together . Sometimes with a little chopped up onion too
VanishingPint@reddit
Toast under beans
Neddlings55@reddit
Both.
Warm melty cheese, and cold tasty cheese.
SomeHSomeE@reddit
Toast, butter, cheese, beans (with cheese mixed in), and cheese to top.
Sackyhap@reddit
I make a cheese toastie with beans on top.
Bread - cheese - bread, fried and squished till it’s nice and crispy. Then beans on top, and if I’m extra extravagant I’ll put cheese on top of the beans too.
I-Spot-Dalmatians@reddit (OP)
See i have added beans into a cheese toastie before, never thought to have one with beans on top!
Key_Seaworthiness827@reddit
In the beans
intangible-tangerine@reddit
Cook the beans gently on the hob and stir in grated medium cheddar at the last minute so the bean juice is thick and cheesy
Crittsy@reddit
Toast- butter- cheese - egg - beans- black pepper
palf74@reddit
No cheese. Reggae Reggae Sauce works really well with baked beans.
paradeoxy1@reddit
Grate the cheese into the sauce, been making beans that way for ten year and never looked back
N0em1s@reddit
If it was just one bean i'd probably just put it on a bit of cheese and eat it in one go.
Certain_Let3399@reddit
Thanks for the laugh 😁
Dennyisthepisslord@reddit
Cheese in the beans for the last 30 seconds or so of cooking so...both?
Aeouk@reddit
In the beans for me, along with anything else I can find to add.
Difficult_System1264@reddit
Mixed into the beans while heating them.
ADHDJ86@reddit
I do the same with baked spud abd my gf thinks im.mad lol
Pedantichrist@reddit
Cheese on beans on toast is amazing.
Beans on cheese on toast is repulsive.
One-Mud7175@reddit
On top, but then fried eggs on top of that
ThePineappleSeahorse@reddit
Always on top. Underneath is just wrong unless you are doing both.
Tonythepillow@reddit
Both. That doesn’t mean I have twice the amount of cheese, but I do have twice the amount of cheese.
Dramatic-Stretch7087@reddit
Not a bad idea - but I prefer beans AND toast, so it doesn't get soggy. But now I'm thinking cheese on toast WITH beans, so you can get the cheese all nice & grilled with the toast still crispy & just shovel the beans in between bites
Dreadheaddanski@reddit
Under and on top
LiamJonsano@reddit
Generally no
But to answer the longer question I’d always put it on top, I think. Underneath (same as a jacket potato) I’d be concerned about the cheese just congealing
Chris_Willman@reddit
Under. Under. Always, always under. Cheese is structural, not decorative
