That's not spaghetti
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
You’re not spaghetti.
GreyGanado@reddit
Also true
YoungHeartOldSoul@reddit
Nothing but facts in this thread
ACcbe1986@reddit
It's just facts, all the way down.
Dounce1@reddit
That’s not spaghetti. But I’d still eat it.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
I keep seeing that. Is it because it’s not spaghetti pasta?
What do you call pasta in spaghetti sauce?
Dounce1@reddit
Yes, it’s because it’s not spaghetti pasta.
I’d call it pasta in spaghetti sauce if I called it spaghetti sauce. Or more likely whatever kind of pasta it actually is in spaghetti sauce. I don’t usually call it spaghetti sauce, but I know what you mean.
It looks like that might be rotini? Idk, it’s hard to see. What kind of pasta is it?
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Rotini I think? It’s the spiral pasta
Dounce1@reddit
They’re both spirals but if you’re in the Americas, rotini is like a worm drive if that makes sense? And fusilli is usually fusilli bucatini which is the continuous hollow noodle shaped like a tight corkscrew.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Nope, rotini then.
Ok, so what would you call spaghetti pasta in Alfredo sauce with chicken?
Dounce1@reddit
I would call it spaghetti with Alfredo sauce and chicken. I might also specify how the chicken was prepared.
Would you call it “spaghetti pasta in Alfredo sauce” and if it was any other kind of pasta you’d just call it “spaghetti in Alfredo sauce,” or do you call it something else?
(I’m not fucking with you here I’m actually finding this interesting, but if you get bored feel free to tell me to drop it)
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Honestly? I would call it chicken fettuccine Alfredo (even though I understand there are no fettuccine noodles). I think most in America would but I could be wrong. Same with spaghetti. I think most everyone on this post that said “this isn’t spaghetti” is outside of America. But I could also be wrong about that too.
So what do you call spaghetti sauce? Or what do you call the red sauce with meat that you typically mix with spaghetti?
Dounce1@reddit
I mean, in the Alfredo scenario maybe I’d call it chicken spaghetti Alfredo? Like, that seems totally reasonable to me I just don’t have a go-to term for it because I don’t usually eat that. I can say that I live in the U.S., and would be very confused if an acquaintance or a restaurant indicated we were having fettuccine Alfredo and I ended up eating spaghetti. In the first case I wouldn’t mind at all, but would probably be quietly amused. In the second, if it was a nice restaurant I wouldn’t mind probably say something, if it wasn’t I would just eat my food but probably never go back unless it was exceptionally good.
If I’m having red meat sauce that typically goes on spaghetti at home I’ll probably call it bolognese, because that’s what I usually make. Outside of my home it’s still very often a bolognese, but often the more broad ragu. The biggest confusion I would have if presented with the concept of ‘spaghetti sauce’ is whether or not there is going to be meat in it, as a simple marinara is frequently referred to as spaghetti sauce as well.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
I wish some one would chime in here. I could be way off. I and everyone I know kind of labels things this way. It’s like, for example, if my wife made shrimp and linguine, but instead all we had were spaghetti noodles/pasta, we wouldn’t then label it shrimp and spaghetti. Because we usually associate spaghetti more with the sauce than the pasta. And we refer to spaghetti sauce as either a marinara or tomato based with meat, depending on how the wife cooks it.
I am realizing one thing, though, and that this is totally bastardized, and almost certainly “Americanized”. I think the long of the short of it is, the sauce dictates what the dish is called regardless of the pasta.
PrawnsAreCuddly@reddit
Are the spaghetti in the room with us? Jokes aside, while a bit burnt that probably tastes good. I’d eat it.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Yeah I don’t know why, we’ve always called (insert pasta) and spaghetti sauce - spaghetti.
PrawnsAreCuddly@reddit
"Spaghetti sauce" is also very funny tbh
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
I mean, it’s a pretty traditional “spaghetti sauce“. Ground beef and ground sausage and however, my wife does the tomato base. What am I missing here?
PrawnsAreCuddly@reddit
It's just that I’m German and no one here would say that. We say "noodle sauce" or sometimes "pasta sauce", but it’s generic and doesn’t mean a specific sauce like bolognese or tomato sauce.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Wife’s Noni would call it meat gravy. The wife only uses that term when she makes her once a year raviolis and meat gravy. It’s kinda like “spaghetti sauce” but much thicker and richer. It’s reduced all day

What’s the origin of this meme lol I have to know
Lopsided_Tiger_0296@reddit
It literally says it twice: the great pottery throw down
Admirable-Meeting-10@reddit
I see that.. I’m more curious if someone can give context to the moment. No need for the snark
gishnon@reddit
That sounds smashing.
roseorrueorlaurel@reddit
It is!! I binged lol
rdldr1@reddit
Did you throw it in the toilet?
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
I hate that I took this picture so close up lol no it’s in a bowl. And not a toilet bowl.
achillea4@reddit
So basically a poor man's assassina.

GreyGanado@reddit
It's not only tasty as fuck it's also fun to cook.
Slade1111@reddit
Learned something today! Will try
achillea4@reddit
You will probably love Spaghetti all'assassina Food. You slowly cook the dried spaghetti in the pan with the sauce so it gets a bit caramelised.
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Want. The wife will know of this
Downtown_Brother6308@reddit
Wife won’t eat it but I crush that every time she’s outta town. Kid looooves it!
hertuition@reddit
Man, fuck you!
roseorrueorlaurel@reddit
How did you achieve this
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Honestly? I just burnt the shit out of it.
But seriously, I drive truck, and the wife prepared to be weekly meals. I reheat it in my electric pot, get it all to temperature, and then let it sit there for a minute and char on the bottom. Then I flip it into my bowl. Walla.
roseorrueorlaurel@reddit
That’s so smart! I like toasty pasta too but was curious as to how you developed such a crust
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
Yeah, it works like a charm. I kinda put the bowl on the pot like a lid then flip it. 10/10 every time lol
TheM3rch4nt@reddit
it prob tastes good tbh
Thegrandestpoo@reddit (OP)
It’s super good imo

This is even too far for me though.
crimbusrimbus@reddit
In all seriousness OP you should look into Spaghetti all'assassina
MrGengisSean@reddit
Yeah, I was gonna say this.
They seem to like charred flavor along with tomato-y stuff. They'd probably never eat another pasta dish.
AstroBlushie@reddit
That’s not leftover spaghetti anymore, that’s a crime scene pancake
PokerBear28@reddit
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, but you’re wrong and I hate you.
rsadek@reddit
Why do you hate spaghetti and why do you hate yourself?
Also your colon. Why do you hate it?
