Fox Rent a Car San Francisco

Hi All, I am heading to San Francisco, with family to attend a cousin's wedding soon. My father has booked a rental car from Fox Rent a Car, apparently we need to take a shuttle from the rental car center to get there, he ended up booking this because of the low cost. I have been trying to do more research into this after finding out, but was wondering if anyone has any tips/advice regarding this. Most likely we will end up sticking with this since he already booked it but I am a bit nervous after reading some reviews online. Any advice/tips are greatly appreciated!! TIA!!

Off-site rentals with shuttle rides take extra time, so just factor that into your schedule. Check the paperwork carefully at the counter to avoid unexpected upgrade fees.

I rented from Fox in SFO in March. I waited in line to get my car for over 90 minutes. They service both Fox Rent a Car and Europcar customers from the same counter. But, Europcar customers get first priority. They don't serve Fox customers unless there are no Europcar customers in line.
My flight arrived at 9 or 10 AM. I'm sure that is a peak time for them. Be prepared to wait for a very long time, or to pay their priority fee (if you are a Fox customer).

Thanks for letting me know our flight lands in the evening so I'm hoping its not to busy but fingers crossed it all goes well.

Check their Yelp reviews.
Literally EVERYONE hates them and says they suck. There are nearly 2000 reviews on Yelp, and almost every single one shows they lowest possible rating.
Run away. They will rip you off, and your travels will be a disaster.
I know the good rental companies cost more, but don't skimp here. It's worth it to not fuck up your vacation at the worst possible time.
BTW, the shuttle is no big deal. But, they're a sketchy company.
If the shuttle ride really concerns you, do this:
Have the family sit down in an airport bar and relax with all the luggage. Let dad find the shuttle, ride to fox, argue with attendant there, eventually gets a car, then drives back to the airport to pick up the family and everyone's luggage.

Aggh, he booked it for the cheap price but I have been skeptical, will probably need to look at a backup incase they screw us over. Thanks for thr advice

Remember to take VERY detailed photos and video over every inch of the car, inside and out. Do this before you leave, and again after you have returned. Include the wheels, tires, undercarriage, and all glass. On the return, get the gas gauge, too.

Will do, thanks!

I live in San Francisco and whatever you do do not leave anything inside the rental car.
When you arrive in the city, go immediately to your hotel/Airbnb and drop off your luggage.
Then we you are out exploring, do not think "oh I will just leave my jacket or small bag in the car". No. Take it with you. Otherwise it attracts thieves.
I love this city and I hope you enjoy! Feel free to ask me any other questions you have

That's crazy that no one in the entire city can leave anything in their vehicle.

People do. Locals know which neighborhoods are safe to do it in.
Thieves specifically target tourist areas, and they specifically look for rental cars.
A 10 year old truck parked near West Portal will likely be left alone, but a brand new white Nissan Versa parked in Ghirardelli Square with an out-of-state license plate will be targeted.

Weird, I've never had a rental car that looked any different than a regular car.

I really appreciate this, thanks a lot!

Also, this is one of the colder times of the year.
The high temperature for this week is 61F (16C). It will probably be like this until late August.

I’ve rented with Fox like 4 or 5 times and have never had a problem.

Good to know, thanks sm!

This is a legit rental company. I believe Europcar owns them. They’re cheap, so the cars might not be in perfect shape and they might try to upsell you. But they are not a scam.

Noted, appreciate the advice thanks sm!
