The interior of my car is black & if I don't use the sun shade when I'm out & about the seats end up hot as the surface of the sun during the summer & I don't wanna burn my legs on them when I'm wearing shorts.
I live in the desert where it gets 115 degrees in the summer, which makes the inside of my car 130+ degrees. Sun shades are still absolutely necessary for me.
My Grandfather used to tell me stories about how, in order to start his first car, he had to go to the front of the car and literally crank the engine up.
It never occurred to me that a few decades later, I would be telling my own Daughter about how I had to “crank the windows up and down” with a literal crank…
…and I probably sound just as ancient as my Grandfather did.
Nah, Owned several cars with crank windows over the years. I genuinely don't miss stretching myself across the car in the middle of traffic to open the passenger window. Or if you have a 4 door, forget about opening/closing the back windows from the driver's seat.
I'm still rocking my wife's college car as my daily driver to work. No power windows or locks, no cruise control, no AC(broken). No power locks and windows is very irritating.
I bought my first wrangler specifically because it was manual locks and windows. I almost divorced my husband when he traded it in, lol. We had a growing family, so I get it but I was less than a year left in payments 😭😭😭
I use one of these specifically to keep the sun off the infotainment screen since heat is what kills those things and they're stupid expensive to replace.
I have one of those Kias without the safety features that kept getting stolen a couple of years ago. I wrote to Kia to complain and they sent me one of the steering wheel bars. I put it on, tried to take it off, and discovered it was too small. It ripped the entire front of the steering wheel off.
Oh yeah this is when the news kept scaring our parents about all the hoodlum kids that were going to mess up your car. Remember that car alarm sounds that you’d hear all the time?
Same with the Club, doesn't really do anything, but if someone sees your car without the faceplate and another one with it, they'll just go for it. Better than just assuming it's in the glovebox.
I miss these- my sisters chevette had them and I thought it was the most genius thing. To this day I stare at that part of car windows and wish (when i seem room for them) that they still did this (a la my 25 crosstrek)
Probably more to do with cars being easier to steal back then. Electronic immobilizers wasn't really mainstream until the 2000's and stealing a ISO-sized car stereo was quick and easy money compared to the integrated and coded units we have in today's cars.
With my first car it was always "roll to your windows and lock your doors!" When my friends got out. My best friend was always like "yes, because everyone wants your 24k gold steering wheel."
I drove an 88 Ford Escort. I miss that car so much...
Lol, I had an '84 Honda CRX that I used a club on, but dammit I worked at Sears in the mens department to be able to afford that $1500 car, I was not going to let someone steal it 😆. And I miss that damn car too.
U mean u guys r not worried anymore about getting ur shit stolen and ur cars frying on a sun? @.@ I even bought shit audio system so no one would be tempted to take it. And I customized my car to have manual windows cuz…. when I drive into the lake by an accident, I need to be able to open my windows quickly. lol. Oh my

Being a victim of the Kia Boys (but they didn't manage to steal my car), I still use a club lock.
nanonoise@reddit
90s? This is still me today with the exception of The Club.
frecklz_23@reddit
You’ll find 2/4 of these in every car in Philly

Still got the sun shade at least.
TraditionalTackle1@reddit
My father in law still uses the club
Adventurous_Pin_344@reddit
Same. Until late last year, I had a black Subaru Forester and that thing BAKED. Anything to help lower its internal temperature!

Same here.

My kids recently asked why we say "roll up/down" the windows. It made no sense to them having only ever used switches.

They’re coming back on the new Slate electric truck!
Angelas-Merkin@reddit
You can still get them in many work trucks. My dad has never had electric windows during my lifetime.
Ok_Degree3037@reddit
They’re an option on new Wranglers too, but they’re hard to find on a dealer lot. Probably have to order them.

Allegedly.

What drove me nuts is when we had a Pontiac and the windows cranked backwards! It took me FOREVER to get used to that……..

For some reason I can smell this picture. The pine tree looking air fresheners, the cheap plastics of the car, or my cool water cologne.
