I can’t believe nobody has mentioned what an absolute smokeshow Jaime Pressley is in this movie. Also Lacey Chabert goddamn!

I love how Ron Lester plays Billy Bob in Varsity Blue AND the parody in Not Another Teen Movie.

SwissCheese4Collagen@reddit
John C Reilly did something similar. He played a pit crewman in Days of Thunder in 1990 and then played one (and then a driver) in a NASCAR parody, Talladega Nights in 2006.
I can't think of anyone other than those two to pull something off like that...
beccadahhhling@reddit
How about
John Hurt’s chest burst scene in Alien that he parodied in Spaceballs?
Arnold Schwarzenegger being THE action film hero and then making the meta/parody film Last Action Hero?
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon winning Oscars for Good Will Hunting and then making the parody “Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season” while playing ridiculous versions of themselves in Jay and Silent Bob?
I could go on…
i_nobes_what_i_nobes@reddit
I still lose it when Affleck says “Ha! Ha! I wasn’t with a hooker last night!”
SerenityN00w@reddit
And Affleck also appeared earlier in the movie, playing Holden McNeil (his character from Mallrats.)
Jason Lee also played two different characters in that movie. (In each case, he was reprising a character from one of the earlier View Askew movies.)
i_nobes_what_i_nobes@reddit
Yup 👍🏻

I love the part where right before that when Affleck and Damon are prepping and doing their lemon face/lion face and Affleck asks Gus Van Sant "Where we taking it from Gus?" and it cuts to Van Sant counting piles of money and saying "I'm busy" and Affleck pointing "You are a true artist Gus"
i_nobes_what_i_nobes@reddit
It’s honestly one of my favorite movies. And that part in particular is why I love it so damn much. That and when AFLAC looks at the camera and says something along the lines of “and and sometimes you have to do your buddies movie because he tells you you owe him one.”
beccadahhhling@reddit
I know right? Like “well, you got us Ben…but at what cost?”

YES!!!! Perfect example!
Tylerdurden389@reddit
Randy/Dennis Quaid as a veteran who's completely lost it is him parodying his own character in the 80s teen comedy "The Wild Life". However, his character in that flick is NOT played up for laughs. Its actually one of the few serious scenes in the movie.

Martin Sheen played the Chief of Staff in The American President then played the president on the show The West Wing
Also in The American President, Anna Deavere Smith played the press secretary then played the National security advisor in The West Wing.
They’re not parodies, just think it’s interesting how they both played different White House roles in two different political dramas.
kchoze@reddit
You missed one. Who is ALSO in Not Another Teen Movie.
Paul Gleason, who played the strict vice-principal Richard Vernon in the Breakfast Club basically reprised his role in Not Another Teen Movie. He also played a very similar character in Van Wilder.
beccadahhhling@reddit
Very true.
Like I said, I could’ve gone on

I'm talking about Varsity Blues. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

Same with Paul Gleason, he played Mr. Vernon in The Breakfast Club and the parody version of himself in Not Another Teen Movie.

oh my god... you're right! holy crap I missed that for years, haha that's awesome, good call!

zoosha2curtaincall@reddit
Chris Evans’ greatest role. Also the tour guide at the beginning is also the guy in the climax who says “I can’t believe everyone at this school is a trained dancer,” which I noticed because he later became the lead in How I Met Your Mother.
SerenityN00w@reddit
And that gets me thinking of the dance scene in "She's All That."

This movie's hilarious. It's impressive how many movies they managed to satirize and actually have it work. Plus a lot of fun cameos thrown in as well (off the top of my head Mr. T, Molly Ringwald, Melissa Joan Hart, Paul Gleason).

Organic_Popcorn@reddit
I love this stupid movie.
ColdMastadon@reddit
I would posit that it's arguably the most biting and incisive satire of '80s and '90s teen movies ever made. The writers, actors, and director display a profound understanding of the genre inside and out, including what made those movies work, and also what made them so ridiculous. I see that it's available on Disney+, so I'm going to have to watch it there for the extra layer of irony.
al_m1101@reddit
Okay, you've convinced me to finally watch it. I never got into all those parody movies of that time (Scary Movie, Epic Movie, etc). I'll give this one a whirl, lol.
RealSinnSage@reddit
THIS ONE IS NOT LIKE THOSE OTHER ONES!!! i promise!!! this was first and it’s great becas it doesn’t do any “of the moment” parodies - it’s firmly rooted in classic teen movies and tropes and it’s actually smart and funny. those other ones completely lost the plot and were so lazy and stupid.
ColdMastadon@reddit
I promise you, it isn't like all those generic parody movies that they turned out one by the dozen, it was made by an entirely different group of writers and producers. In fact, I think that giving it the generic name that they did was their biggest mistake. It performed terribly when it was initially released, amd it wasn't until later on when people started renting and streaming it that it became a cult classic.
iaurp@reddit
Maybe they are generic and churned out by the dozen, but "Tom, I'll need a ride home" from Scary Movie 3 is one of my favorite lines of dialogue ever.
CorgiMonsoon@reddit
The first two Scary Movies were very entertaining. 3 still had enough worthwhile moments that I’ll rewatch it from time to time. 4 has some moments that I’ll just watch the clips of. 5 is worthless.
I’m cautiously optimistic about 6 since so many from the original are returning
pennie79@reddit
I think Scary Movie wasn't helped by the fact that Scream itself is an affectionate parody of horror films.
AzarahMetrionZinthos@reddit
It was produced by the same guy behind most of those movies, the legend John Hughes. This is why they attend JHHS. His willingness to laugh at himself and go full throttle with an R rating is brilliant.
I-didnt-write-that@reddit
Oddly enough, it was also co-produced by George Lucas
pennie79@reddit
Disney do know how to do the occasional parody. Enchanted is magnificent.
Seattle_Lucky@reddit
Completely agree, and it’s hilarious. I watched it hundreds of times in college, mostly while stoned with a room full of friends.
RealSinnSage@reddit
ugh she’s got GLASSES and a PONYTAIL!!!
NoLimitHonky@reddit
This movie is still hilarious, as long as you were around for the originals. They perfectly added all of the 'real' movies' plotlines and it flows well. I still watch it regularly. Great script!

Here's a deep dive for ya: Randy/Dennis Quad as a crazy war veteran is ALSO him doing a parody of a character he played in an 80s teen movie. Its called "The Wild Life" and it's criminally underrated. His character in the movie is basically the same as he is here, but is NOT played up for laughs.

This is an hilarious parody movie, though I'm not sure how a young viewer would appreciate it. A lot of it was referencing teen movies from the 90s, a genre that I feel has largely disappeared from Hollywood.
