GenX men, where do you keep your wallet/billfold? Front or back pocket? Purse?

curious to see what everyone’s reasons for keeping your wallet in which pocket.
I keep a billfold in front pocket because sitting on a wallet was uncomfortabl.
_WillCAD_@reddit
Card case in back, cash in front.
Sitting_pipe@reddit
My daily is my back pocket as well as my dress wallet, I use this 90% of the time however, if I’m wearing shorts like cargo shorts, it goes in the right side pocket because it’s more comfortable than sitting on it.
ballfed_turkey@reddit
Front of pants, less back pain, less chance of theft or even stealing the RFID. Also went from full wallet to being able to carry Ids, insurance card, debit card, 2 credit cards, $202 in cash and a challenge coin.
Effyew4t5@reddit
Boomer chiming in here. You’re still using wallets?? Embrace the technology. I have a pocket fixed to the back of my iPhone. It holds my drivers license, ATM card, a credit card and a couple $$. Everything else is either in the Apple Wallet or in Notes as an image
I got rid of the wallet years ago. I always have the phone with me and I can use my watch to find it when I need to
Why carry more than one thing??
troylight54@reddit
Hope you don't lose your phone. Boomers suck !

When I lived in the US, I kept in my front pocket. Since retirement and moving to the Philippines, I wear shorts all the time, so I do like most Filipinos, and have a small bag over the front of my chest. The bag works very well for phone, wallet, passport, even a small umbrella.

I have a ridge wallet and I wear tactical jeans. I put it in a pocket designed to hold a magazine.

No_Seaworthiness8176@reddit
I used to keep it in my back pocket. Then as I got older and my butt started to melt and I started to develop old guy chicken legs it became uncomfortable. Now I wear old guy cargo pants 100% of the time so I have a leg pocket to carry my wallet in.
PapslappyMcfee@reddit
Never had a wallet. Have my debit card, cash, and license in my front left just loose since I can remember.

Front right. I used to carry back right, but discovered in my 30's it was throwing off my back/hip alignment when sitting.

Thick bifold wallet in my right rear pocket. I don't sit on it much. It comes out of my pocket when I get to the office and again as soon as I get home. I've tried cleaning it out, but I've got too many cards I have to keep on me. I've become my dad :/

Depends. When I am driving I put it in the tray with my phone since it begins to hurt after a while. When I am wearing sweats, in the only pocket. When I am wearing a coat, in the inside or chest pocket. When I get out of the car in pants usually the back pocket.

Also, if you haven't tried the Real Men leggings (or underwear) do yourself a favor. Incredible support.

I reject the premise of the question. Whenever possible, I don't carry a wallet - everything I usually need lives in my phone. Same with keys.
When I do carry one, jacket pocket, or if no jacket, front pants pocket. If no pants, well, that's a whole different story, and you don't want to know.

Front pocket. When I was 25 I started getting severe back pain when I had a fast paced day at work. My chiropractor told me to NEVER put a wallet in the back pocket. I had a twisted pelvis from sitting on the wallet. It only took a couple of weeks of adjustments to relieve the pain but probably a year to get it back to normal alignment.
Granted I keep a lot of stuff in my wallet except money. Cards, receipts, notes, anything I might need to access on the fly. I know if I put it anywhere else I won't have it when I need it. I put my SS card in the strongbox at home since it is rare I need that.

If you can get the women's pants industry to work on their fucking nonsense, girls will stop putting phones in their back pockets.
It's necessity because the whole goddamn asinine fashion industry assumes every single female always leaves the house with a handbag or a purse when that's not real life, so they make pockets that won't even hold a stick of gum, and the pockets they do make for some reason seem to be flimsy and useless for a heavy thing like a phone.
I thought it was just a stupid meme about pockets and that most women just wanted people to look at their butt or something, but after doing my wife's laundry for years I understand now that the entire fashion industry hates women.
Fuckspez42@reddit
I genuinely believed the same thing from whatever that year was until last year, when I realized that I see just as many men carry their phone in a back pocket as I do women.
Fuckspez42@reddit
I worked for Apple back when the iPhone was a brand-new thing, and I can tell you that the first few models (up through the 3GS) had a very specific way they’d break when sat upon in a back pocket. The only more distinctive breakage is what happens when you slam one in a car door.

Came here to say this. Growing up in the 80’s I heard stories about people getting wallets stolen out of back pockets all the time. The hassle of getting replacement credit cards, drivers license, and other ID, like insurance cards, was worse because nothing was online. That, and the loss of cash was enough to make me worry about theft. That, and the stories from people with back issues from sitting on the wallet for extended periods.
Now, the theives go for your phone.

I haven’t figured out how to carry my driving licence comfortably yet - I sometimes need that for ID. I don’t like the idea of a phone case with a dedicated card pocket because that reminds me of wallets with coin purses which - as we all know - are for losers and dork-wads.

Add another vote for team cargo pockets. I *only* wear ripstop non-denim cargo pants or cargo shorts when I leave the house. Wallet in right cargo pocket. Phone in left cargo pocket. Pocketknife in left front pocket. If I have to carry any keys they’re in the right front pocket (with an ink pen), but I almost always drive my Tesla which uses my phone or my watch as a key, so I almost never have keys with me. I haven’t sat on a wallet in a rear pocket for 25+ years because it’s painful.

Until I read your question, I never consciously thought about all the very specific ways I carry my wallet. SergeantBeavis@reddit
I used to keep my wallet in my rear right pocket because I had my keys in the front right pocket. However, my current car uses my phone as the key, so now my wallet is in the front right pocket. The main reason for this is to stop leaving a rectangular impression on the back pocket of my pants,,, especially jeans.
I normally have a very slim wallet with my ID and credit card. It’s extremely rare for me to carry cash. So it’s almost like it’s not there. The toughest part of this change is my daily pat down to check the three pockets before I head out the door. It takes a second for me brain to register that I don’t need to pat my butt cheek. 🤭
Now to force myself to buy a smaller phone so it doesn’t leave an impression in my front left pocket.

Front right. I kept it in my back right pocket as a kid, but when I got a job and started making money, it got too thick and started to hurt to sit in it. So I shifted it to the front pocket, and haven't looked back. Even now, when I haven't used cash in years, I couldn't go back to a back pocket. It would be too weird.

I went to a bifold front pocket carry about the time that checks went out of style. I only use a hand written check theses says for my small town water company and didn’t realize one of the disparities in modern life until we bought my wife a new car recently. I didn’t think to grab my check book, and debit cards dont have a daily allowance high enough for most down payments.

I stopped carrying a wallet for about 20 years. I just recently started again. Why? I lost a fully loaded wallet 3x in my life. License. Credit cards. Social security card. Pictures and once my entire paycheck in cash. I'm terrible with wallets. I leave them places and forget. The roof of my car putting groceries in the car and forgetting it's there. In stores on shelves. In grocery carts. And those were the ones I recovered.
Absent mindedness at its finest ...

Was back right but have transitioned to phone case for cards. Phone goes in left front. Any folding money goes in front right with the Swiss Army knife, Carmex, earbuds and pill bottle. Gerber multi-tool goes in back right unless it has worn a hole through and then back left. I’d like to see a GenX EDC thread. That would be interesting.

I put hidden side pockets in the thighs of my Dockers and keep it in there. Back when they used to make "Dockers mobiles," I fell in love with the design, and when they discontinued them, I started making my own from the regular model. My wallet sits just above my kneecap but below the bottom of the regular side pocket so things don't overlap .
A number of years ago i brought an example of what I had been doing by hand, and she took measures to replicate it. She puts in two side pockets for 20 bucks. I pick up the pants when they're on sale, so it works out to just buying the pants at regular price

Not my Gen X.
I love new technology. And am forever grateful that I got to live through the whole technological revolution that has been going on since the mid 80’s.
Well at least the mid 80’s from my perspective.
Our generation is so incredibly lucky. Unlike our parents. Who had to deal with fucked up parents from WW2. And our kids who have to deal with today’s fucked up future.
Sure we had it a bit hard. But seriously? Wasn’t it awesome to spend days outdoors roaming the neighbourhoods until the sun set?
And then to be part of the beginning of the fucking internet!!
I could go on. But anyway. You do you mate. I’ll happily use my device to pay for everything.
Note: I maybe into technology. But I still keep a stash of cash just in case the power goes out….😁

OreoSpeedwaggon@reddit
I used to keep my wallet in my back rear pocket until about 15 years ago. It was a fabric wallet made out of hemp with Velcro clasp and I would fill it so full of money and cards and receipts and other junk that it would bulge outward, even though the seams held, and it caused me a lot of back pain because of its size and where I kept it. Before that, up until the late 1990s, I had the typical leather billfold that had pockets for cards and cash and those plastic sleeves for holding photos. It was bulky and bulging and did the same thing. It wore out fast too.
Around 2010 or so, I switched to a much thinner and lighter Chums wallet (like this one) that I use to this day. I rarely carry cash or coins on me anymore, my photos are all in my phone, and I keep only a few necessary credit and ID cards on me. I also have kept my wallet in a front pocket since then and it has immensely helped relieve the back pain that wallets in my rear pocket gave me. The one I have had since then continues to hold up well, but if I ever need to replace it, I'm sure I would get one just like it.

But that’s my question, can I keep that type of minimalist wallet in my back pocket where I would keep my normal wallet? Or are these minimalist wallets supposed to be carried in the front pocket? It gets in the way of my EDC flashlight or pocket knife if I keep it in my front pockets.

But now that my state has a digital drivers license, my phone acts as my car key, and I can pay with my phone or watch everywhere, I leave the sleeve at home most of the time.

Back right pocket unless I’m traveling abroad or in a crowded place. It goes in my right front pocket then.
I was warned about back pockets before my first trip in college to London by my but hat I was visiting. Turns out he was right. We were out at a club and I got approached. One thing led to another and we started to make out. Next thing I know I feel a hand going through my back pocket. I just kept on, knowing what was going on. But what’s a guy to do? I just kept up the make out session until they figured out they were out of luck.
