I’m sueing the shit out of that airline if I’m him or possibly even a passenger. And don’t say you can’t sue, a woman was just awarded 300k by carnival cruise line by getting blackout drunk and saying it was carnivals fault
DoomHammer1644@reddit
does this hurt the truck?
venerablepreceptor@reddit
He’s not going to be a trucker very soon🤑
anydamnnamesleft@reddit
Definitely rough day at the office
Beekatiebee@reddit
Fuckin hell! News says the driver only had a few cuts/scrapes.
Man just won one hell of a story, imagine getting to tell people you got hit by a commercial jet and lived.
CantSeeShit@reddit
I would imagine a full truckload of PTSD as well
copper_wing@reddit
Doesn't need to work again, I hope him and his company wrecked house after this
CantSeeShit@reddit
As someone who recieved a TBI while trucking.....honestly it would have been better if it didnt happen. Yeah ill prob get a settlement, but I miss my old brain.
He may be rich after, but the only reason hes getting money is because now his life is permenently altered and he will have a huge uphill battle.
LBraden@reddit
Mostly it sounds like it'd be PTSD if not helped, the AvGeeks I know have all heard he was discharged about 2h after arrival at hospital due to minor cuts.
But the biggest thing is not letting yourself dwell on it, site I worked at, we had a driver who was in a near fatal come back after 3 month and did co-driver for a few as Pax then drive and went back to solo, helphim get over the anxiety and fear a lot.
CantSeeShit@reddit
Everyone is different.....my PTSD is related to other matters thsts not trucking. But it's still a total asshole of a thing to live with.
genocyde26008219@reddit
Like what? VBIED? FMP? IED? Everyone has PTSD of some sort now a days. Take your meds and be grateful for the honor and privilege to keep trucking. 🤣 🤣 🤣 (alittle sarcasm there, but as a veteran, I understand and hope you heal bro.)

Final Destination shit

He wont have to work ever again after that lawsuit.

"You should see the other guy!"
Lane8323@reddit
Absolutely insane he only has some scrapes
Lazycouchtater@reddit
Common joke... "damn you beat out the duke boys didn't you"
whitecollarpizzaman@reddit
There’s an airport near Lexington, North Carolina that has a lot of business jets fly in and out. They have signs warning about low aircraft, mostly so people don’t get startled since the runway is a 45 degree angle and planes would be coming from behind you. (The highway actually curves near there so planes cross twice.) A few years ago a King Air (two engine) prop plane crashed into a Frito Lay semi there, spun the whole truck around, driver injured, pilot killed, forget if there were passengers.
Kershaws_Tasty_Ruben@reddit
Please sweet baby Jesus let the driver be on here.
EhpicBenitez@reddit
His boss: wtf you mean you hit an airplane????!!!! Hoooowwwwww???!!!!
Not-A-Pickle1@reddit
Truckers fault
firemarshalbill316@reddit
WTF?! How you explain to dispatch you got hit by a plane?
11B_Rsnow@reddit
And not just any plane, a friggin wide body 767!
atmega168@reddit
Well he delivers to the Depot at the airport.
AnarchoDC@reddit
I about got taken out by a crop duster - he was behind a thick tree line hitting the edge of the field.. I cleared the trees and there he was pulling up and over the road… right over my passenger window
CampEvie23@reddit
Hope that means he was alive to attempt the explination.
ifukeenrule@reddit
driver -"you know how y'all told me not to fuck shit up anymore? weeeeeeellllll..... this time a plane hit me! totally not my fault!"
Ornery_Ads@reddit
Reminds me of this one:
https://www.insurancejournal.com/news/midwest/2005/12/22/63396.htm
TLDR. Michigan has weird "no fault" laws for their insurance. As a result, despite the plane being at fault for hitting the truck, the truck was ordered to pay for the damage to the plane.
PowerUpTheLighthouse@reddit
Explain this more, not understanding how this makes any sense
bulldog522002@reddit
Years ago I was at a Kansas port of entry showing my paperwork. A driver from Michigan was refused entry to Kansas because his company had no fault insurance. This was in the 80's and may be different now.
DFA_Wildcat@reddit
That is crazy!!! I'm 100% against no fault insurance, it always penalizes good drivers.
Wheelman519@reddit
Apparently it was TL4UTR lol… they didn’t pay.
x31b@reddit
Yeah I want to hear the conversation in the dispatch office when that call comes in.
CallsignKook@reddit
Drive tire was below 2/32, this was an avoidable accident. Please turn in your keys to the nearest terminal

msn6522@reddit
Is he alive?
EveryBlackberri@reddit
Driver is so lucky he survived wow what a story
Fair_Chemistry_3317@reddit
What the .... I hope the driver made it out alive!
Mackerbilt@reddit
"This truck yields at aircraft crossings" sticker coming soon
leadpoem@reddit
Well that is always been true. On the ground plane always have the right of way regardless. They even have the right of way over emergency vehicles
Perfect-Magazine-485@reddit
I wonder what repercussions a pilot faces for something like this. Banned from the industry?
leadpoem@reddit
Well they are at least going to have to go sit down in the chief pilot's office and that is never a good day.
The weird thing is this can't really happen. The only way I can think of that it would reasonably happen without significant levels of negligence would be a sudden unexpected wind event like wind shear or microburst.
One of the pilots is flying the plane. Another one is monitoring. Both should have clearly seen they were below the glide path. Not to mention there are multiple systems in the plane that help indicate if they are on glide path or not. Hell the plane could do it all by itself if really needed.
Plus this is well past the point you decide on whether you should go around from an unstabilized approach. They should have been hitting that go around button well before they were this low.
AndyLorentz@reddit
If it is determined to be the crews’ fault, and they haven’t previously had an accident, they will get recurrent training on whatever mistakes they made and eventually go back on duty.
TossmySalad88@reddit
Whoa, wait just a minute here. Have you ruled out the truck driver?
JOliverScott@reddit
Blame the truck driver, that's what they always do!
No_Teaching_8273@reddit
I pass by here every 2 days and sometimes I wonder if shit like this were to happen who be at fault . If you know you know ,'it's crazy watching the planes go by over the trucks on the highway .
AndyLorentz@reddit
The only airport I’m aware of where there is a chance of collision with ground traffic, is the western approach to St. Barth. If you see a truck on the road at the top of the hill, you’re supposed to abort your approach and try again.
At a major airport like this, it is 100% the aircraft’s fault (most likely the crews’, but who knows maybe they had a malfunctioning instrument). The aircraft also hit a light pole, so they were definitely too low on approach.
Washedhockeyguy@reddit
Multi-millionaire. This driver is now a multi-millionaire
MiguelSTG@reddit
I'd rather not have the trauma of getting hit by an jet.
MonkeyDxn@reddit
Bruh walked away unscathed and probably too dumb to sue properly 😒..wish that was me
MiguelSTG@reddit
And what would lead you to think he is too dumb to sue properly?
MonkeyDxn@reddit
Seen it happen before. Guy i worked with was hit by someone who stole a police cruiser and crashed into him going over 100 mph. He got out and said he was fine got nothing out of it, now he quit trucking and is dead broke.
Radiant_Swan187@reddit
You can have 40 years of not working to deal with the trauma. Worth
Safe_Fail_568@reddit

It's not often that the truck driver's insurance maximum is the one being dwarfed by the other party's insurance maximums.
Ornery_Ads@reddit
In this case...I don't think the question is the insurance maximum...it would be the insurance minimum.
United won't have insurance for this. They will just pay it out of their operating budget.
Socketz11@reddit
Correct, they are self insured for small stuff like this and in the case of excess (catastrophic) they have a policy with Lloyd's or some other excess insurance carrier. For something like 9/11 or god forbid, worse.
buderooski@reddit
Idk about MULTI millionaire, but definitely in the $700k to $1mil range if he gets a good lawyer
Overall_Reputation83@reddit
yep, always nice to see a little guy get traumatized by the rich and get an early retirement.

Thank you. I was worried about the driver.
Bredda_Gravalicious@reddit
"The driver experienced a commercial plane's tires landing on the tractor or brushing the top of the tractor," Paterakis told ABC News.
The driver, Warren Boardley of Baltimore, was traveling northbound on the Turnpike at the time of the incident. Paterakis said Boardley was able to safely pull over after the strike and contact his employer.

"Can't send warren anywhere, he can't go a day with mouth some bullshit, who the fuck gets hit by a plane"

As a fleet mechanic I would 100 percent be telling people that this is somehow Warren's fault.
csbsju_guyyy@reddit
"let's break this bread" - united pilot apparently
Laffenor@reddit
Oh thank God!
TouristEquivalent181@reddit
I hope he survived that. That looks like it took him "out" out. Prayers for his loved ones.
freedom_seed5-45x39@reddit
Insurance company will say it was the truckers fault.
pardipp@reddit
wasn’t paying attention to the road, drivers fault.
but on a serious note, i drive i95 everyday and yes some planes land “low” but never had i seen a plane so low that it hits a truck. something else gotta be going on fr
IBringTheHeat2@reddit
Drive tire was below 2/32nd tread, avoidable accident
Jonas_Venture_Sr@reddit
HE TOUCHED HIS PHONE WHILE DRIVING. Someone call a lawyer for that airlines!
DukeBradford2@reddit
Clearly he could have avoided the accident had he not shown up to work. Completely avoidable, airline awarded $149m for damages and injuries.
dnyte270@reddit
I was once on an accident call, a piece of plastic fell from a pallet above me and hit me. When they asked how I could've avoided the accident I suggested maybe I should call in more.
EarEvening9902@reddit
If he was below on tread then plane should have missed him though…
IBringTheHeat2@reddit
He should of expected the unexpected
WolvTheHero@reddit
Driver didn’t get expect the unexpected, avoidable!
TossmySalad88@reddit
Yep, probably gonna be truckers‘s fault.
Alive-Worldliness-27@reddit
I always hated driving around the airport be it going to Bayonne or headed south towards SI.. but yeah the footage and hearing only some scratches and scrapes.. wow
ursisterstoy@reddit
Different airport but I was all around Chicago Ohare a few days ago. Scary how close the planes get to the freeway because they have to so they can land and in a couple days I’ll be in Jersey City closer to the Statue of Liberty than NYC proper (excluding those two islands). Closer to it than Newark. I’ll be a city block away from the river.
ursisterstoy@reddit
I hope I don’t have that same problem because I’m going to Jersey City and the company doesn’t know if being closer to the Statue of Liberty than Manhattan and Brooklyn should count as NYC. Right next to Liberty Park at Sysco. And I won’t say which day I’m going there because I don’t need people waiting for me to show up.
kakarota@reddit
That was a preventable just FYI
DepecheRumors@reddit
He got hit by the light pole that plane knocked down
tc6x6@reddit
This hand is gonna be the Two Truths And A Lie world champion.
Fantastic_Board7057@reddit
And if he survived, still has to go to clinic and take a pisser
tc6x6@reddit
They're gonna have to swab his underwear to get a sample cuz he had to have pissed and shit all over himself when that happened.
Helios-21@reddit
Omg that’s crazy but after a decade in the industry that is absolutely going to happen. I don’t think because of his company. I can see the company that owns the plane insisting that a drug test take place since they know that is standard for trucking after an accident. Anything to avoid paying out a lawsuit. It would make no sense but in the world we live in today I wouldn’t put it past them.
yeah-no-yeah-no@reddit
Not sure which came second, EWR or the Turnpike, but someone did a shit job of approving how closely they built it next to the other.
Dey were like, “So whaddaya guys sayin’… you don’t tink dere’s maybe—maybe—a chance one o’ dose… y’know… planes…
Well… y’know… maybe— I mean it ain’t gonna happen— but let’s just say, God forbid, hell freezes ova…
and one o’ dose planes decides it’s landin’ on da Turnpike… instead o’ da tarmac.”
Microshlongg@reddit
If I see a brand new fully loaded 389 I know who owns it
tc6x6@reddit
Aw hell no, he's gonna retire after the lawsuit is settled.
planetbuster@reddit

West_Imagination3237@reddit
This never happened with Spirit might I add.
External_Result_8560@reddit
Looks around “what is that noise..sounds kinda close”
blueminded@reddit
I'd never in a million years expect this to happen. I've had some planes buzz closer to the ground then I would expect, but this is fucking nuts.
MustangMark83@reddit
Holy crap. Meanwhile, safety is gonna ask him if he did a pre trip
Deodorized@reddit
"Well if you spent 10 minutes on your pre trip instead of 7, you wouldn't have been there to be hit in the first place. Clearly preventable."
OSRSgamerkid@reddit
Its funny but that Werner lawsuit actually won a record breaking unbelievable settle agreement on this logic until it hit an appeals court.

Theres a guy near one of my regular stops who sprays bananas and he is often close enough for me to see the big grin on his face.
Lets say that ive learned to trust him over the years and just give him a nervous smile and a wave these days
tvieno@reddit
Safety is going to rule that as a preventable accident. One year, no safety bonus.
SuperConfused@reddit
One of the guys who works with us now, managed to get sideswiped by a dry van last December while hauling diesel fuel on a state highway in Missouri and ended up going off the road without rolling it and without spilling a drop, and all of his logs were proper his pre-trips and post trips were proper with the proper amount of time for everything absolutely everything was perfect, but they had to call in a tow truck to get them back on the road, and they took his entire safety bonus for the following year. A quarter after it happened, he came to work for us.
Insurance companies make all the decisions, and they don’t have a clue what they’re doing most of the time. Their decisions have resulted in more unsafe driving conditions than anything else.
TruckerAlurios@reddit
So that is a walmart driver? Shit. Amazed we haven't gotten a message to avoid that area until the flight path changes.

Socketz11@reddit
He should have checked the flight schedules for all incoming flights and known better than to drive on that stretch of roadway when planes were landing. Completely preventable.
