ULPT proof of insurance

Is there a way to make up a proof of insurance to shut my boss up? I'm a 1099 (illegally I should be a w2 but I need the job) she wants proof if liability insurance (I'm a pet groomer, the shop has its own coverage) even though it's illegal to ask me to pay for an injured pet (I've groomed 25 years and required exactly 1 use of my insurance about 15 years ago when I had my own shop) I'm a very safety conscious groomer.
I need to find proof of insurance asap I'm going to get a policy but I can't afford one I was out of work for a few months. I really need this job.
redfoxbaby24@reddit
“I’m a very safety conscious groomer” okay well evidently not lmao.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
Safety and sanity are 2 different things. Working as an ic is dumb af but it doesn't make me careless or cut corners, or less cautious.
seascribbler@reddit
Even if you aren’t careless and don’t cut corners, unpredictable things can still happen. As much as it sucks, it’s better to get it once you can afford it rather than not. If there is a mistake despite the caution, you could be on the hook for a lot more money that wouldn’t have coverage for.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
No, legally I'm not responsible
Grant_Winner_Extra@reddit
yes. get insurance
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
I'm surviving on Ramen and electricity is about to be cut off I don't have money for a policy I really am gonna have to get it at some point but today I'd rather buy ramen
Grant_Winner_Extra@reddit
What exactly are you on contract to do? The requirement makes no sense if you’re that broke and the job pays so poorly, what possible insurance requirement couldit have that isn’t auto insurance?
I wouldn’t normally suggest fraud but you can easily find insurance certificate images online and edit them with nano banana or even just in powerpoint. but you’ll need a computer, network access, software, and some time. If you putely use AI tools like nano-banana, you might have to spring for $5-$10 in tokens too.
seascribbler@reddit
It’s business liability for dog grooming and actually pretty important for when OP can either obtain it for herself or get her employer to correctly classify her and put her under their insurance. Dog bites, accidental injuries, and that sort of thing. Being cautious works great until it doesn’t.
Noc-nurse-crimepsych@reddit
DM me I got you! Cheap!
Heavy-Interaction548@reddit
Find an insurance carrier that will let you cancel the policy after it's made. Show the proof to the employer and then cancel the insurance a couple weeks later and get your money back.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
This is what I am doing now
Heavy-Interaction548@reddit
Also make sure the insurance provider will give you a prorated refund because some insurance providers will not do that.
poop_report@reddit
Get a quote for insurance, then tell your boss to pay you for it. Otherwise tell her she needs to pay you as an employee.
RedTyro@reddit
I believe the actual life pro tip here, regardless of ethics, is "don't commit insurance fraud by falsifying proof of insurace." You're asking for advice on how to commit a serious felony in order to keep a shitty job you've only had for 3 weeks. This job is not worth prison time.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
I'm desperate for work right now it's my only hope of salvaging my rent situation
RedTyro@reddit
Well, good news! You won't have to pay rent if you go to prison for insurance fraud.
Tomj_Oad@reddit
You're going to get busted for tax fraud.
Insurance fraud is just a whole different bag of snakes.
You've already got one set of felonies, don't go for two
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
I'm not.commirring tax fraud she is, I'm misclassified I'm the victim, which means she can't require me to carry insurance.
whatshamilton@reddit
Just don’t. Just report the company to your state’s department of labor for employee misclassification. Your boss will undergo a payroll audit and owe a lot in back taxes.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
I've had this job 3 weeks
whatshamilton@reddit
What does that have to do with anything?
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
There is no back taxed the business is 3 weeks old
whatshamilton@reddit
You’ve had the job 3 weeks? Or the business has been in operation 3 weeks? If only in operation 3 weeks, sure all they’ll do is fix it so you’re hired properly. Still what you should be doing
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
If I complain I'll just be fired
CamelTone@reddit
They’re going to verify anything you show. Insurance verification should come direct from the insurance company not from you for this reason.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
She definitely won't be verifying it, she just wants me to bring in a policy I think. It's not like car insurance so I don't think there is a little piece of paper that I can whip out.
MjrGrangerDanger@reddit
There is, it's either the binder, declarations page or a certificate of insurance.
Providing proof of insurance when you have none is insurance fraud and companies will have you prosecuted, even for something this minor. Source: former insurance professional.
Quiet_Raccoon8053@reddit
Yeah, but if they make up an insurance company, and their confident their company won't check, who's going to sue?
GoodGoodGoody@reddit
Sue? Uttering a fake document, especially for advantage, can be criminal which might be the bigger concern. Just a word for all ya faking drs notes.
Quiet_Raccoon8053@reddit
No shit. But if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?
MjrGrangerDanger@reddit
I guess you beat the game? It's still insurance fraud....
Grant_Winner_Extra@reddit
what insurance do u need?
nochinzilch@reddit
If you are a 1099 employee, she’s not your boss she’s your client. Tell her that your insurance protects you, and her insurance protects her, and your insurance is none of her business.
BrewingBitchcakes@reddit
That's not how it works. If you are a contractor you can be required to provide insurance and ein/social security number to the "client". Her insurance will require contractors to have their own insurance or she will get billed for the additional insurance.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
I'll get fired, 100%
-KeefGreen-@reddit
Maybe instead, look for some part time work as an actor? (playing the victim).
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
I am actually the victim, lol, I'm being intentionally misclassified. Which means I'm paying double taxes, have no protection for unemployment and no protection for on the job injury. The insurance which she is also liable for but making me pay. is the icing on the shit cake.
obog@reddit
I feel like you should be going after that. Settle the tax qualification, i know you said you need the job but if you get fired for pointing out that your employer was committing tax fraud at your expense then you'll be due for a payday. Im not a lawyer (though, you should likely consult one) but that sounds like an open and shut case in your favor.
Which, speaking of, if you havent already started make sure you are keeping whatever documentation you have. Tax forms, employment contracts, any conversations that were in writing... likely will be useful.
Ruleyoumind@reddit
They have insurance companies that are "pay as you go" next insurance used to have an option where you could pay for just a month.
yankykiwi@reddit
Get insurance for this month, then cancel it?
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
That seems to be the best idea
SillyStallion@reddit
Could you get monthly insurance, show her, then cancel after the first month?
gunsforevery1@reddit
Sign up for a policy, and then cancel it.
JimmyMoffet@reddit
Borrow proof from a friend. Scan it, upload it to DocHub and use the "erasure" to remove Name, VIN etc, and write in your info. The app is free and there are multiple fonts so you should be able to match things pretty well. Helvetica usually works best. Download it and print it, or just send it electronically to your boss.
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
Bold of you to assume i have friends. But for real no one I know has to carry thier own insurance, since it's not legal to pay people as ic in this industry
JimmyMoffet@reddit
What? You just need proof of insurance. Certainly people have auto insurance.
The_Troyminator@reddit
They’re looking for business liability insurance, not auto insurance.
JimmyMoffet@reddit
Oh, Well. . .then, buy an insurance policy, get the document and cancel it the next day.
MjrGrangerDanger@reddit
If it's an Accord form Helvetica won't work.
JimmyMoffet@reddit
Then you just erase and overwrite all the "fillable" sections so they all match. Not all that complicated.
MjrGrangerDanger@reddit
They're standard industry forms. Look up ACORD form. They always fill in with the same serif font. Always. I can think of one broker who had a system that defaulted to a sans serif font for applications but that's it in my experience.
What you are suggesting is not only insurance fraud but going to look more atypical and instantly raise red flags to a recipient who knows what to look for.
Key-Candle8141@reddit
What kind of insurance are you talking abt??
drezdogge@reddit (OP)
Business liability
Adventurous_Froyo007@reddit
Get some quotes for bare minimum liability. Go with most affordable. Ask if they prorate dates for partial months. Ask if there are cancelation fees "should you no longer need the coverage". Read fine print.
Main thing is aquiring a legit policy the approved way long enough to verify. How long you keep it or "if it lapses" is a up to you from that point even if shady and could bite you in the ass later on.
MjrGrangerDanger@reddit
This is the best idea.
OP don't let the policy cancel for lack of payment, that can prevent you from getting coverage in the future and fuck with your credit. Also don't tell your broker what you plan on doing.
The most important thing is to pay attention to the "minimum earned premium" for the insurance company. This is the amount of premium you pay regardless of the policy term. If you cancel early and the minimum earned is 100% you are getting nothing back. It's used for specific types of higher risk policies. Your broker should be explaining all of this to you. Listen to everything they say.
Oh, go with a broker on this!!! They'll keep you from saying anything stupid to the company.
My company underwrote very large commercial and personal policies and IRRC third parties that are not mortgees.
As long as OP isn't under a contract requiring insurance coverage, then they'd just be violating the contract.
Msefk@reddit
tell them no unless they are willing to pony up the cash to insure you indepedently- aren't you an employee of their company that is insured ?
Clae_PCMR@reddit
Maybe just get insurance in your home country for much cheaper and send that?
DannySantoro@reddit
This is already in their home country. The OP just didn't get insurance when she needed it and needs to legally deal with that.
OP, this is something you're going to want to buy insurance, don't lie about when you did it, and play this one ethically. Nothing will bring you down faster than messing with the government's cut.
