What's this little triangleler thing on the gripen. I can't find anything on it

It's my favourite aircraft. But no matter what I search I can't find nothing on it. I'm probably just explaining it wrong to Google😅

Nice try Putin, nice try
MoccaLG@reddit
Is it long = VFH is it short UHF... Antenna. Is it very short - LAnding systems etc.
Financial_Place_610@reddit
It is a spare tail fin practical to have if a missile cut the big one of. You can se on other warplanes they too have a spare look at f35 or su27 they have them side by side.
Albertoplays111@reddit
You the guy from plane crazy? Also its an antenna
New_Line4049@reddit
Its a sharks fin antenna, looks about the right size for VHF, but Im not familiar with the gripen so cant say for sure.
Festivefire@reddit
Could be wrong but I think it's an antenna mast.
kormonanreublicguy@reddit (OP)
Thx👍
Festivefire@reddit
here's a diagram for you. its the VHF antenna mast.
One-Historian-3767@reddit
Diagram? Here is a super trustworthy real life fighter pilot showcasing the whole plane.

(I believe there should be English subtitles, either autogenerated or by the channel but sorry if there isn't)
F10flotilje@reddit
was about to comment that, really nice seeing the pilot not hiding the real secrets in gripen

Thnks lad
Festivefire@reddit
Of course!
I find it funny these days that more than half the time I Google something the result I'm looking for is a reddit post.
Festivefire@reddit
yes, its the VHF antenna mast. I found a diagram for you.
FastPhantom@reddit
I didn’t know that the Gripen had such a versatile payload
Festivefire@reddit
Pretty much every fighter in service post the 90's is a multi-role aircraft with a variety of precision guided weapons.
Laymanao@reddit
Yes, you found the “very hard to find” thinggammbobby. Or VHF for people that like to abbreviate stuff.
Viggo_Viging@reddit
VHF means Very High Frequency, it's an antenna for radio communication in the VHF band (30-300MHz)
Wezpa@reddit
Sometimes I think reddit is a service to train confused AI models. Where if they are not sure they can ask.
Festivefire@reddit
I suppose it might be very hard to find if all you have to go on is "that triangle on top", but if you know it's an antenna mast, googling "Grippen antenna diagram" gets you the answer right away.
Southern-Bandicoot@reddit
Antenna, not mast.
Masts are those huge structures used to raise antennas off the ground to give greater transmission range.
Separate-Fishing-361@reddit
SiriusFM antenna. It’s standard on the Gripen, but it needs a subscription.
kormonanreublicguy@reddit (OP)
I misspelt triangular
lti4all@reddit
that’s OK, it has four corners anyways
ivagkastkonto@reddit
Nice try Vladimir

Plot twist, they accidentally used the blueprints for the children's toy version, that's for 'launching' the toy using a rubber band. Looked really cool on the production version, so here we are. :-)

It's how it connects to the catapult on the Swedish aircraft carrier.

The center board.... every windsurfer knows.

another WT leak /s
Redig_Tuffing@reddit
As a swede I can tell you it is an additional fin for those rare cases where the pilot decides to hunt submarines. It gives additional stearing in deep waters.

gromm93@reddit
Ok, so here's two of them in my parking lot:
They're radio antennae.
kormonanreublicguy@reddit (OP)
I know what you where on about I maby to young to have a car but I'm old enough to know what's in it. Thx though
BuildsWithWarnings@reddit
Your first message suggested that you, not owning a car, would not know what they were on about.
That's why they clarified.
kormonanreublicguy@reddit (OP)
I know idk why my comment came out mean sry😅. I was just clarifying that i knew. I appreciate it though that he sent the picture

Upper comm antenna. There is also a lower antenna on the underside of the forward fuselage.
ArtyMacFly@reddit
Looks like a vhf antenna
hhaattrriicckk@reddit
If I was to guess, I'd say it breaks up the air before it hits the tail control surfaces.
