Men who use electric shavers: what do you recommend?

I'm a man who until recently was bearded, and have decided to start shaving regularly (in part to help with my trich). I've had a selection of electric shavers over the years and none of them quite hit the mark, so I was wondering if anyone can help me find one which suits my needs without me having to keep buying them to find the best through trial and error.
I have very flat and sometimes curly hairs, so I need one that lifts the hairs up as it goes which is where I've found the rotating razors to be better than the side-to-side type.
Here are the ones I've tried so far:
Remington dual rotor travel shaver
What I like about it:
- Battery powered and portable
- Gets a nice close shave and leaves a smooth finish, which is what I want
Where it falls short:
- Needs a traditional 240V shaver socket or EU adapter to recharge
- Charge level isn't known and neither is its run time, so I constantly recharge it
- The motor is weak and it's time consuming to use
Silvercrest triple rotor travel shaver
What I like about it:
- Super long battery life (more than 2 hours runtime)
- USB-C rechargeable
- Three rotors with more surface area reduces the time to do the job
What I don't like about it:
- The shave isn't close enough for me, it leaves a rough finish rather than smooth skin and needs more passes than the Remington does
- The motor could be stronger
So really, I'm looking for something that fits the best of both worlds, and wondered if there's anyone out there who has faced the same dilemma and found a superior product which ticks all the boxes. Ideally without breaking the bank, too.
I once had a Braun straight shaver (side to side type thing) and it just didn't lift any flat-lying hairs away from the skin to cut so just didn't work for me.
Your suggestions are much appreciated!

Norelco 3000 series. It’s simple and easily cleaned.
I previously had a Braun with a series 7 head, which I liked the integrated clipper. It was way harder to keep clean though.
SsockSock@reddit
Which model in the 3000 series?

I use a Braun Series 9 which I find does a pretty reasonable job. Just occasionally every month or two I give my neck a wet shave just to get the stray hair that get missed.

If you have curly or wavy hair philips one blade is the only one. Ive tried many when i was younger right upto top of the range they all will just rip your hair out. If you have straight hair maybe its a better experience. Hair clippers and safety razor for a long time now for me but ive wavy hair. Hope thjs helps
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
I use a Phillips one blade and it's honestly pretty class
romeo__golf@reddit
So do I. I also rate it.
GreekVicar@reddit
Came here to say this. It has pretty good utility for other trimming jobs too, if needed
I have a very flat beared too and, because the One Blade works in a similar way to a wet razor, it lifts the hairs up as I shave
mobro88@reddit
Me too and love it! Then again I grow facial hair like a 6 month old.
HirsuteHacker@reddit
Tried this and thought it was a bit shit tbh
magaduccio@reddit
Second this, I bought one for my son growing up too, it’s perfect. From trimming to shaving it can do the lot. No rash or complication, wet or dry, one charge lasts for ages, new blades if you break them. Really good.
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Innit it's very versatile, battery life absolutely blew my mind
RoutineCloud5993@reddit
Same.

Is there a reason it has to be an electric shaver? I never had much luck with electric ones so switched to a safety razor and I’ve never had such a close shave. Can’t recommend them enough.

For convenience. I have a cutthroat razor too which I never really got the hang of. I need something quick, effective and reliable.
Jingoldsby@reddit
Yeah shaving makes all the difference but in a pinch lube up !
BlueChickenBandit@reddit
I was just going to say the same thing, I have a beard and use an electric shaver to trim.
If I go scuba diving I always use a safety razor and wet shave where my mask sits as it's the only way I've found I can get a shave close enough not to case mask leaks.
Chopsticks_Charlie@reddit
Is scuba diving an innuendo?
Jingoldsby@reddit
I shave if I remember but otherwise something like vasaline can work to improve the seal.
BlueChickenBandit@reddit
I keep a little razor and tiny pot of shave cream in my dive kit now. It's one of the silly little things that I wouldn't go without.

I had a Braun series 3 which was ok but then seen a deal on a series 9 which was a different level. A really close shave and doesn't cause irritation. Just realised it's 9 years old.

I've had a Panasonic LV97 since Christmas 2021, and it's still going strong. Never had to change the blades (as advertised by Panasonic). I'm a "shave 2-4 days a week" kind of guy, I work from home so being clean shaven everyday isn't a requirement thankfully, but the shaver deals well with cutting my longer stubble.
WhoIsJohnSalt@reddit
Agree. The Panasonic I have completely blows away the Philips rotaries I’ve had.
That said I now have a beard and have one of those head shaving rotary thing.
malacoda13@reddit
Philishave. Get the best one you can when on offer. Don't ever pay full price.
One thing to know about Philishaves (and possibly all electric razors) is they need time to bed in, and start cutting properly. So give it a week or two to work well.
Oh, and for info, I have a very difficult beard and skin combination. I CANNOT wet shave everyday without cutting my face to shreds, and I've tried just about every branded electric razor. Philishave was the best for me.

Braun Series 3. Best I’ve found for price vs performance. My first lasted for years too. Recharges quickly. Has a rudimentary charge indicator which could be better but does the job. If my current one fails I’d buy another
Tonybeetswannabe@reddit
Braun Series 9 Pro
It ain’t cheap but blimey you’ll never need anything else for the rest of your life.
ross-dirext-words137@reddit
I had many. Basically don't buy the cheapest one there all terrible. I end up just going on Amazon and buying the shaver for £70 is that has the largest discount wich can be 50% sometimes.
There so much marketing garbage, you just have to role the dice and see if it works for you
Consistent-Pirate-23@reddit
Go Philips and find the one with the highest rrp you can afford.
Don’t pay full price, somewhere always has them on offer, usually boots
TheMasalaKnight@reddit
I’ve got a Braun Series 6 (Sensitive Skin) and I love it!
GroupApprehensive978@reddit
Hair clippers. Ive used them for years.
Alarmarama@reddit (OP)
If I have a long bear I'll use my beard clippers, but that doesn't get a close shave.
Still-BangingYourMum@reddit
I used a Philips 6000 . Triple rotary head rechargeable by USB-C socket, fully waterproof and can be used as a wet shave, I use BodyShop Maca Root & Aloe AND then froth it up with a shaving brush, just a cheap shaving brush from Home Bargains about £5.
I have sensitive skin that flares red and then over the next 2 days will dry out and get incredibly flaky. But using the above mentioned. Now i don't get any reaction at all.
The Philips has a built in display that shows charge remaining and a complete new replacement head includes 3 blades 3 meshes, the entire head assembly is available as a replacement unit from the bay, for less than £30.
The results are acceptable to me and leaves a decent finish one my chin but areas around my throat seem to get missed, leaving short hairs. To be fair to the Philips 6000, all the other electric shavers have all had an identical problem in that area.
labdweller@reddit
Not sure what others are like. I’ve always used Philips ones. First one was a AA battery powered one with 2 rotating blades.
A few years later got a 3 headed one, and after using it for many years I replaced the blades in the 3 heads to keep it going.
I got another 3 headed one after discovering the other one wasn’t as waterproof as it looked.
mrstone2@reddit
I used to use Phillips, but that would irritate my skin too much. My face seems to prefer just a regular razor
MembershipKey1520@reddit
Yep, I've had loads of electric razors over the years but always end up going back to a wet shave. Philips rotary twin or triple best as foil razor foils too fragile (crack & tear). Going over the same area repeatedly to get a close shave just irritates skin & takes much longer than a wet shave. Triple blade Aldi own brand disposable razors can last me nearly 6 months (2 or 3 shaves a week).
The-lemon-kid-68@reddit
Phillips one blade. Absolutely brilliant.
wimpires@reddit
Philips BT5502/13, don't underestimate the value of lithium battery, fast charge and ability to use while charging. Bonus points for using the same charger as my wife's epilator
EditLaters@reddit
Phillips. Triple round-headed thing. Budget version probably 80 quid or so, works fine, battery lasts ages, I shave daily or twice if going out evening. Phillips been doing this for many many decades, they work, nothing else needed.
Odd_Explanation558@reddit
Braun Series 5. Trimmer for the long hair and then shaver for the close cut.
SirGranular@reddit
Had to look up 'trich' and I'm assuming it's the hair pulling thing not the STI?!
I like to shave with a safety razor if I ever do. There's a video on YouTube that I found great for showing how to do it well. Quite enjoyed the ceremony of it. But imagine that's not ideal for a daily shave.
UnfortunateWah@reddit
Manscaped triple foil shaver the Chairman, and the smaller variant for travel.
Chairman has more power and the head can move, but both last ages and are USB-C rechargeable.
Used to have a Phillips rotary with a cleaning machine that worked well, but I have to shave 5 times a week so that nuked the battery pretty quick and I dislike the proprietary chargers.
Sorry-Programmer9826@reddit
Be careful when looking at which are usb c rechargeable. If they say "must have USB A on charger side" they've not actually implemented the USB C standard correctly and it will be a pain as you'll need to keep an old style cable and charger around for them
