Is earning 100k as good in the UK as it used to be?

It’s hardly a curse, but it’s definitely not worth as much as it was and, on balance, it really isn’t taxed fairly.  Yes, it can be difficult to have sympathy for this particular tax bracket, but the issue with the UK is that corporate giants are given a free ride to bum everyone while workers - including those on “enviable wages” - are expected to pay far too much…  We find ourselves in a situation where most people are earning poor wages that need to be topped up with benefits and those who are “earning high” are effectively punished for being aspirational and can lose more money than they technically deserve to…  The current government has well meaning but ill executed ideas around this whole area and quality of life is on an ongoing downward spiral for both low and higher earning workers.  This isn’t limited to London, either… Myself and my other half go above the “100K household” mark and live in Manchester… Honestly, life feels overpriced… We don’t really extract anything back at all… We literally use private healthcare… But we pay far more than our share to everything… It is a big factor as to why we will ultimately relocate overseas and many of our similarly situated friends are on the same page…  I do feel like we’ve been made in to a bit of a false enemy and we are clumped in to one category alongside multimillionaires and gigantic businesses etc. and it really isn’t accurate - or ultimately fair.
