21 year old from Melbourne looking for an AME apprentinceship

I've been told to walk into local airports, even medium-large airports and ask to help out / gain an apprentinceship.
How do I walk into an airport without getting gunned down? I've never walked into an airport so could someone help me out?

I'm in Perth so can't point you at who's good or not in Melbourne. There are a almost certainly a bunch of maintenance outfits at Moorabbin and approaching one of them would be a good starting place. You can probably walk in to most of them from land-side.
The airlines also have apprentiship programs which would be worth applying for. Don't forget to check with the smaller airlines as well.
Lastly, not sure what's in Melbourne as far as TAFE goes, but it's certainly a program that's offered here in Perth at South Metropolitan, they have a 732 at Jandakot that is part of their program. If there's an equivalent in Victoria that will probably give you a leg up.

Do you mean A&P? AME is an Aviation Medical Examiner.
I haven’t seen too many bigger places with apprenticeships, but call around (don’t walk in unannounced lol) and see what you can find.

AME also stands for Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in some parts of the world.

And in Aus (where OP is) it's rather annoyingly both:
LAMEs are License Aircraft Maintenance Engineers DAMEs are Designated Aviation Medical Examiners

go to a small, local airport and walk around and ask at any of the shops.

At smaller Airports you can walk around and ask for Jobs but any International or Regional Airport will give better results by calling around or Emailing them. Ask staff working there if they can help or know of any positions / contacts who can help you out.
