I may just end it all.

Just parked it for the night (5:30am), hungry, looks like a rollerdog it is.

I was at a Denny’s, not too long ago, where the manager was on a total power trip. He was literally screaming at a waitress, and the guy who was in charge of cleaning the floors. They were in a back room, but you could hear them out at the register and in the Denny’s waiting area. A different waitress had an almost completely flat tire. She could not afford a tow, or a tire. And she was already running on a spare. She was in tears. I bought her a bottle of fix a flat and helped her put it in just to get her home.
The waitresses at Denny’s often to get treated like shit I think. Which explains why they have no Night Shift. And they get paid peanuts. Remember to tip folks! In some cases, it’s literally the line between eating and not eating for the employees. Even if you don’t tip the standard 20%, one or two dollars makes a big difference. If a waiter can clear even 25 or 30 bucks a shift in tips, that could be their breakfast for the entire week FOR A FAMILY.
KILRgamer@reddit
The only problem is that it shouldn't be your responsibility to pay someone else's wage. A tip should be for good service on top of a fair wage. Instead, it's used as an excuse to get slave labor and guilt trip the customer in paying the server. It's time for this greedy business practice to end.
FightingFlaresandNF2@reddit
No. If a person chooses not to tip fine! I tip $3 because these people are doing a service. Then I may tip more depending on how my service was. Ex: there’s a waitress at Red Robin’s that’s great. I always tip her $10 but give cash. One time I tipped the waitress at GC at the flying j $20. Another time I took $200 out the ATM and I walked back to the waitress. I told her close her eyes and open her hand. I placed the money in her hands and folded her fingers over so she was holding it. Told her to open her eyes and I said Merry Christmas get your child some gifts and have a Christmas dinner. She started crying and hugged me.
BeenThruIt@reddit
You're "lucky" there's a Denny's there at all. Truck Stop Denny's are closing faster than my girlie's legs when I won't buy her whatever bullshit thing she's got her eye on.
GoNe2heLL@reddit
"nobody wants to work a night shift".... Pay fucking people their worth or at least 25% graveyard premium and you won't have problems finding workers. So many places close at 2200 or earlier it's fucking ridiculous
angrydeuce@reddit
Just one other thing we lost during covid that never came back :(
Ecstatic_Ad6888@reddit
Eww never roller dog!😭
Serious_Mongoose61@reddit
What you need is a crock pot. Throw 3-5 days worth of meat in there and strap it while you drive (you can cook more if you have big freezer). Ben’s original rice comes in an orange pack just throw it in the microwave and you got carbs. Then top it off with frozen veggies… just get some seasonings and you’re good to go man.
TruckinTuba@reddit
I honestly recommend cooking in the truck, cheaper and better for you in the long run
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
I plan on it. I'm currently (unfortunately) on a shared truck for a few more weeks, but the truck that I'll be getting is coming stocked with a fridge and microwave, and I have full permission to add whatever else I'd like. I'm getting back into the game after a decade of being out, so I've got my training wheels on for a minute.
Outside of this short period, I very rarely eat out. I enjoy cooking for myself, but it is what it is for a few more weeks.
Horus_Whistler@reddit
Shit man I thought you were my trainee for a second. We also ended up at a Dennys that was closed at 8 in Clive, IA.
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
Shit, I had to make sure you weren't my trainer lol. That's the one! The whole lot was a shit hole. Wasn't even any buns left for the rollers.
Horus_Whistler@reddit
Definitely didn't like like the slanting lot lol. I got the store bacon Mac and cheese, and the pesto chicken salad. Pretty good.
We made up for denny's stopping at the Iowa 80 truckstop the next day
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
Nice, I'm heading west, so I stopped a few hours ago for my 30, but ended the day here. Well, kinda, were basically running like teams now, so back on there road. When I'm in my own truck, I will definitely try to hit it again on a reset. I really didn't get to soak it all in.
Getting some good miles though, I started in Missouri, from there to California, California to Pennsylvania, now Pennsylvania to Utah. Definitely prefer the west.
TruckinTuba@reddit
Utah is a nice place, I'm just about to deliver my load from Prudhoe to Fairbanks
Horus_Whistler@reddit
Lol I'm the opposite. The west is nice, but I live in California, so coming here is refreshing to me. Started in California, to Illinois, then Kansas, now Illinois again. But it's my trainee's last week, so we're looking to get back West asap.
Had the buffet at the kitchen for $16. Very good price
FCMatt7@reddit
Air fryer is the way to go. You'll never microwave a hotdog again.
lex_1005@reddit
air fryer and a ton of hot pockets i don’t go out without it🤣
DisgruntledFun@reddit
I’d rather have a roller dog than dennys to be honest
OldDude1391@reddit
Dennys not open until 8 am? WTH? Diners serve breakfast and breakfast should start at 6 or earlier.
Frogspoison@reddit
Nah, all Denny's are 24/7, BUT if nobody shows up, or not enough ppl do, they close.
Denny's often have an absolute shit retainment ability. Low pay, managers at most lvls are on personal power trips, ect.
derpmcturd@reddit
Brother the fact that you'd even consider walking into a Dennys means you are down bad bad, the roller dog is an improvement
bentstrider83@reddit
Either cooking in the truck, or just fasting until you can get to a better meal. Of course if you're a night driver and can't find a spot to pull over for a bit to cook, eat, then get rolling again, then it's either fasting or whatever shrapnel is on the heater.
I've definitely done roller sausages without the buns. Other times it's been a bag of pistachios and a couple of apples. Then a decent meal 16-20 hours later.
Nothing like just wanting 1-2 hours to get food prepped, cooked and eaten. But all the spots are taken by solar chargers down for the 10-15 hour count😡
AroundGoesThe18@reddit
Really does blow my mind that corporate trucking stops haven't bothered to figure out that they should be open by 4am for people waking up and/or night drivers going to bed. If the fast food places can get it done, so can they.
redguy4545@reddit
Cold crab salad is always good if your at a pilot
trucksarekewl@reddit
Overpriced trash anyways
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
It is, I was just really looking forward to some biscuits and gravy.
trucksarekewl@reddit
I just threw up a little bit i think
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
Probably a very similar experience.
trucksarekewl@reddit
Na man I just find gravy to be disgusting lol
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
I love it. But, I was also raised on it, so it's just also kinda comforting to me as well.
trucksarekewl@reddit
I get it, Im from the south, people's heads explode when I tell them lol
ProtestedGyro@reddit
Dang. That's a shame. One of my all time favorite snacks is white gravy, hot dog water and chicken cartilage all mixed in a bowl. The chewy mixed with the creamy is delightful.
trucksarekewl@reddit
Dawg aint no way so gross!
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
I understand. I'm also from the south, but I very extremely rarely eat poultry. That includes fried chicken. I might get a chicken sandwich or tenders maybe once a year, but I really try to avoid it. Just don't really care for it.
firstblush73@reddit
Id grab some teriyaki beef jerky instead. At least you know it was processed and packed with some standards. 😬
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
I've already had 4 sticks today. I was looking forward to some slop.
Little-Trucker@reddit
Burger is actually pretty good
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
If only I had access to it.
IKnowItCanSeeMe@reddit (OP)
I agree, I was working food service before driving, and I completely agree. It's just that I was really looking forward to a meal and Denny's is usually my savior.
