I might leave linux, because windows 10 is better for me, but holy hell I hate it, but not that much that I wouldn't daily drive it.

I love linux, I was using it for about 4 years now, hyprland endeavorOS(I used arch btw but I thought to try something different for once),
I know how to rice, program, scripting, read the fucking arch wiki
I just loved it so much and that would never change at all.
I can't program without my terminal and neovim with zellije, it amazing really.
archlinux never(very few time I had to live boot, chroot, you know the drill at this point, it was my fault really for messing with commands I shouldn't be doing anyway) broke for me, because I'm not stupid, and I can read.
I hate VScode and anything that isn't a CLI tool, I switched to yazi for file managing, and many other things that would make this post long.
so as you can see, I'm not one of these people who can't use a computer or linux, I know linux really well at this point and I love it so much, wine/proton is amazing and never had problem with it in the new updates pretty much fixed everything for me.
I used to dual boot windows before I made the switch for years ago, and then fully deleted windows because it slow, full of ads, and bloat on my old and only laptop that I have and I can't buy another one either, so linux make this thing faster and useable is amazing
HOWEVER, I'm a collage student and I need CST studio for antenna design , so I had not choice but dual boot again.
I decided to use Windows 10 LTSC 2021, which have no AI, or ads , and with using a debloat tool of chirs titus it works and it really good.
TOO GOOD, like holy hell is this thing running better on my old laptop with possibly a dying HDD? YES, even faster than linux for me.
when I made the switch I went to gnome first but it was slow, then I went to KDE plasma and it the best desktop for linux in my opinion , but I have to go to with hyprland not just because I love hyprland and the learning curve of it, but the main reason I switched to hyprland because I want to make my old laptop faster and better, otherwise I choose KDE everytime I install linux.
BUT, now that I used Windows 10 LTSC 2021 it just faster and many programs work on it, and it lauches apps faster than linux dose, yes even on hyprland my hdd it that bad,
I still hate window managing in windows and how everything is on top of each other but it still bearable.
I can also play league of legends, I know I know it feature not being able to play LOL on linux but still I want to play league.
it been two days I login to windows everytime and I never logged in for linux, that might change because I didn't setup windows for progamming and I still use neovim and zellije, so I might go back to linux, but I heard about WSL?
I want youtube and do things on windows just I like I did with linux,
again I do still believe that linux is a 100% BETTER THAN WINDOWS.
BUT, for me the reason I switched to linux was because I want my laptop to be useable and faster and Windows 10 LTSC 2021 make that happend dose that mean I don't need linux anymore?
AND yes even on hyprland, alot of apps takes too long for me to launch even the file manager or the terminal,
I blamed my old hdd for this.
BUT I THINK the main reason windows make things faster is because of preloading and using used ram, I know archlinux dose that too, but it's not really good at it .
is there a linux distro that dose that? idk
even though I love linux, maybe windows is just better for me, I will hate it yes, but it a good thing for me.
I will keep dual booting linux, but I really hope this dose not make me switch to microslop.
thomasfr@reddit
An operating system that’s no longer supported or possibly is going to end its extended support soon is not something anyone should consider switching to.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
I disabled fully windows updates all of them, so that dose not really matter for, dose it?
dholmcarriage@reddit
You misunderstand. The end of support means that any security vulnerability remaining in Win10 will never be corrected. In other words, you're at high risk of getting hacked, contracting a malware, etc. Especially if you use the computer for your bank account, buying online, emails, etc. Whether you disabled anything is irrelevant and in fact even more dangerous.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
damn, thanks for telling me that windows suck ass for this.
I still need windows for some windows only programs but I'm gonna keep the important stuff on linux
thank you for telling me this
dholmcarriage@reddit
You're welcome ! Windows 10 specifically. Windows 11 is the one still supported, if you still want windows on your machine.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
win11 is just bad, and yes I'm gonna have to keep windows for dual boot from now on because of collage and my engineering major.
dholmcarriage@reddit
Oh it's bad, no doubt about it. But it's much, much better than an os that doesn't receive updates anymore.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
unfortunately, I have to use win10, because my laptop dose not support slop11 requirements
donnaber06@reddit
disabling updates is the smartest thing you could do /S
dholmcarriage@reddit
Then it might be a good idea to airgap the computer while it's running windows, i.e. not connect it to the internet. Or perhaps a virtual machine might do the trick.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
I need the internet.
laptop too weak for VM (already tired not worth the trouble)
dholmcarriage@reddit
Then sadly there's nothing more I can help with. I wish you good luck though !
---Walter---@reddit
It's supported until 2032 with MAS activator, even for the regular LTS (the non IOT).
Have you heard of the 2017 WannaCry ransomware ? You should update and there won't be any slop on Enterprise Windows because it's for businesses. The slop they feed it to regular Home and Pro users
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
but wouldn't updating windows with dual boot, override the boot manager and can't boot to linux
they say it hard or at least not easy to go login back to linux after that
seiha011@reddit
Go ahead
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
with what
seiha011@reddit
with Windows... because you wrote "Windows is a good thing for me" ;-)
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
you did not read the full post, didn't you
I'm not switching buddy
seiha011@reddit
Ok
dholmcarriage@reddit
Rule #1: the best os is one that is still receiving security updates. Windows 10 doesn't satisfy this condition anymore. Do not use it.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
I fully disabled windows uodates using the chris titus debloat tool.
I think my windows it slop free, so some extend
but holy hell things are launching faster than linux for me.
why can't linux have this memory managment?
DribblingGiraffe@reddit
So you've gone out of your way to make something that is in support, out of support by disabling the security updates. I'm going to suggest you don't know computers very well like you claim and instead just copy youtube video steps.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
only read guides, never follow youtube videos.
linux dosen't have security updates, and it works
I'm not stupid to click on malware links
I think I'm find with disabling windows updates.
I don't care about windows support what dose that even mean for me?
just Install a progam and here you go. why would I ever need security updates or windows 10 support for that
unless security updates and windows support would make windows unusable, It dose it really matter
Sensitive_Box_@reddit
Windows 10 LTSC is still getting security updates for a handful of years. It’s makes absolutely no sense to disable updates. Why’d you even switch to the LTSC version if you weren’t using it for the security updates? That’s the whole point. Otherwise you’d just remove everything from the regular Pro/Home version.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
I disabled it because I heard it could override the boot manager. and it won't be easy to go bring it back
spectralblade352@reddit
Isn't it receiving updates till Jan 2027? Correct me if I'm wrong.
amuf_oratok@reddit
Extended Security Updates program lasts until 13th October.
dholmcarriage@reddit
I'm not sure, but Jan 2027 might as well be tomorrow. I don't think it's a good idea at all.
binaryhextechdude@reddit
TLDR: W10 is EOL and you should not use it for banking, online shopping or anything else that involves personal information or credentials crossing the internet
Sensitive_Box_@reddit
LTSC is supported for like two more years I think?
---Walter---@reddit
The hwid MAS activator changes LTSC to be activated as IoT LTSC, so it's six more years (2032)

"BUT, for me the reason I switched to linux was because I want my laptop to be useable and faster and Windows 10 LTSC 2021 make that happend dose that mean I don't need linux anymore?"
You know you can change your reasons? Even if you originally switched to Linux for speed, you don't have to keep honoring that if you truly find Linux better. You can change your metrics.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
what do you mean change my metrics? speed dose matter for me, it a long time (20+ min) to boot to windows 10 than linux hypland.
I want to use Kde but it just too slow for me. So i found hyprland appealing
but with windows 10 LTSC, I get kde with speed.
I hate windows still and will always hate it, I wish I can use KDE.
ofc speed isn't the only thing that I like about linux, I love package managers the rise and so many more.
but I need this CST studio for my collage that is the only reason I dual boot windows, otherwise my laptop is slop clean
Arkebuss@reddit
You asked, "does that mean I don't need Linux anymore?" And my answer is no, it doesn't mean that. As you seem to realize yourself, so I don't know what we're discussing.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
this post is just a rant
LocationReady788@reddit
UpsetCryptographer49@reddit
On gnome it is easy to remap and write script to switch windows. Eg. I map F12 to a workspace where I have a tmux terminal.
This simple automation is so hard to do on windows.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
yes I agree with you windows sucks ass at this.
like why can't I three finger gestures to change workspaces?
amuf_oratok@reddit
CST Studio Suite supports RHEL and SUSE Enterprise, so technically is on Linux. This doesn't mean it could work well on your system, but I think it's worth a try before switching.
In the end, you do you: you can switch back anytime.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
I tried it didn't work
krumpfwylg@reddit
Gotta love those r/linux topics about people justifying they're going back to Windows like if they're trying to avoid capital punishment...
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
who said I'm switching to linux.
I Didn't make this post so people have a reason to swtich to microslop
this is just a rant and my experience
spectralblade352@reddit
This rant might be better posted at r/linuxsucks
Either way fine. I really don't get the point of the post, use whatever works for you. If Linux didn't, fine use Windows. Each have their own pros and cons and dual-booting is an option used by many to strike a balance between both.
WOLFMANCore@reddit (OP)
but linux dose not suck at all.
I will never hate linux, and linux dose works for me.
this post just as you said a rant, it shouldn't make you switch to windows because of this post.
If I ever had a better machine I would only Install linux and use VM for windows stuff like CST studio design antenna software
duxking45@reddit
I think it is thr wrong decision but you know you. Personally, u think since you see. To like linux id go for something without a gui in a dual boot configuration ow Alternatively I check out a stripped down version of Linux
