just solder a better connector

Very good analysis. Asus dropping a turd charging so much and may not make much impact in fixing the problem. Sounds like something Nvidia would do
Thotaz@reddit
When has Nvidia created an expensive fix that didn't actually work?

12VHPWR as a fix to 2x8/4x8pin cable clutter?
RHINO_Mk_II@reddit
"Man these cables are so cluttered, would be so much better if it was just 1 cable that was a fire hazard instead"
yabucek@reddit
Nah, sounds exactly like something Asus would do lmao.

I am still waiting for his review of Aquacomputer Ampinel that claims they have internal balancing.

I'm glad this analysis is out, but I'm yet again disappointed in people. In the very thread about the release of this thing, people were already singing the praises.
You get immediately downvoted for stating this wouldn't ever fix the root cause so how is an expensive cable fixing anything? It's not and never could've!
The only way out of this nightmare is for manufacturers to stop using this connector. No PSU, cable, technique, or anything else will do anything about it.

99.999% of people on Reddit have no idea how the magic flowing in computers works, the 0.0001% that do get ignored as the posts are to complex.
Kind of wish EEVblog covered the topic, maybe it's been done in his forum?

Your comment reminds me of a friend I used to have... She lived in a moldy apartment, but didn't think it was that big of a deal and just painted over it. There was black mold all over the ceiling, which she just covered with white paint...
In her view, being sick all of the time was just a matter of not taking enough antibiotics. The mold was "never" a problem. Yeah... I backed off very quickly after realizing absolutely nothing would go through to her. I'm still amazed...
itsjust_khris@reddit
Hopefully she's not contributing to increased antibiotic resistance in bacteria.

Actually, the even easier fix is for Nvidia to add back shunt resistors for load balancing across the 12VHPWR pins. This was present on Ampere, then removed for Ada Lovelace and beyond.
Demented_CEO@reddit
AFAIK, that's because the RTX 30 series used a non-standard connector at the time, known as a 12-pin connector. It's pin-compatible with the standardized 16-pin 12VHPWR connector (and subsequent revisions like 12V-2x6).
Not sure what PCI-SIG are smoking, but the whole industry just needs to back off this hot garbage.
games-and-chocolate@reddit
ask an engineer to solder a better ectended cable on it? will invalid the warranty but at least it will not burn the house / office down.
TDYDave2@reddit
Is it gold plating or beryllium copper plating?
