Accomodation prices????

I need to be in Budapest at the end of the month for a few days and I just looked up accomodation. Am I missing something? Why are the prices quite literally through the roof for 4-5 days of stay? Is there an event or something during that period?

Champions League final
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Okay that's definitely it, thank you
Husquiloplus@reddit
Did you find a good stay in Budapest?
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Yup, a reasonable one.
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
I just removed the 30th from the dates and the prices are wildly lower(aka normal), it's definitely the UEFA champions
Guillermo1810@reddit
If really no other option, try to look neighbour' cities max an hour away with train, especially if it's for work or something... For example some of my uni classmates lived in Székesfehérvár, which is like 55 mins with train (from Kelenföld station, which is at subway M4), and they just took it every day. Not necessarily that far, but that direction there is train like every 30 minutes. Èrd, Tàrnok, etc.
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
This is actually a great idea. How reliable are the trains? Are they on time and always go per schedule? Just so I know how to accurately plan my time.
Also, can tickets be bought online? If yes, where?
HUNAcean@reddit
Do not go to Székesfehérvár (well, I guess unless you wanna check it out as it is a pretty city).
I take this Z30 train very often from a smaller town on the line, and you should know that this is a key commuter train, so like the 6-9am and 4-7pm windows you will be hrad pressed to find a spot to stand, let alone sit.
If you go with the aglomeration, I would look at Solymár, Üröm, Budaörs etc where trains are more frequent and if its crowded, you will only need to stand like a sardine for 20 minutes, not an hour. Not to mention, it'd be cheaper.
But an outer Budapest district like 4, 15, or 10 with direct metro connection is also great.
Infamous_Question430@reddit
If you are here for a longer time, and plan to do a lot of public transport while you are here, I would recommend you to get a monthly country ticket. It's 50 Eur for a month, and you can use it almost anywhere in the country, to local and inter-country travelling as well, without limit. You can use it also in Budapest for public transport, and have it in an app on your phone, and just beep at a QR code when you are asked for your ticket. If you want to travel from Székesfehérvár, trains are quite good tho, you can be in the city in about 40 mins.
Guillermo1810@reddit
The Budapest - Esztergom trains were rarely late. I lived in an outer district and it took me like 20 mins to go to Budapest Nyugati station (ofc this is still Budapest). MAV START is the official name of the app.
CloudCalmaster@reddit
They are as bad as they can be. But major problems happens once a week at max. I feel you're lucky. jegy.mav.hu

I have an apartment at Blaha square for way better prices if ur interested DM me.
billychan527@reddit
I will be in Budapest from May 27 to Jun 1 for Champion League Final, the hotel price is over EUR 1000 for 5 days.
Iulian1988@reddit
Don’t go in Budapest. Expensive city full of tourist traps. Their tourist attractions are only cash grabs. Their thermal baths are dirty and full with mold and smell like toilet. Try Bucharest, much better option.
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
In this economy, every major European city is full of tourist traps, everyone is trying to survive. I've been to Budapest, and it's a beautiful city, and I'm sure Bucharest is as well. No need to get offensive. Plus, I have to, I need to catch a flight from there.
NVByatt@reddit
i've used several times this page for finding accomodation there: https://www.apartmentsofbudapest.com/en/budapest-apartment-for-rent
hank_normie@reddit
You can sleep on my couch for 500€
ReceptionHungry4978@reddit
Well, you are searching in the Best places for tourists 🥲 look a bit farther out! Public transport is excellent from other districts in Budapest too
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
I definitely will, thank you!
hulyepicsa@reddit
What are you looking to visit? Just the usual sights? We can probably recommend good areas for you to stay if helpful
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Nothing in particular to be honest. One of my friends will be there as well so I just want to meet with her and chill otherwise. I've been to the main sights in Budapest on previous visits, so I'm not stressing about that.
kiyomi000@reddit
Maybe try to find an airbnb?
WaGGu@reddit
The map they posted is from airbnb.
kiyomi000@reddit
Mb didn't know that
avar29@reddit
I don’t know if there are other factors as well, but Budapest is having the UEFA Champion’s League final on 30 May.
leon-a-profi@reddit
Great, so BP will be a war zone for hooligans… fuck football
cuko_rdx@reddit
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
It has to be that then
haleyless@reddit
Try to look for a place on the Üllői út line - during daytime you can take metro line 3 and at night there are night buses every 15 mins or so. It’s not the fanciest but it’s a lot cheaper and convenient.
Sonagi428@reddit
You are mainly looking at one of, if not the most expensive districts in town. Try looking around Disctrict 13, it's very close to the downtown area but it's much more quiet, clean and overall peaceful. :)
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
The thing is I've stayed in this district for much less, but I will look into District 13, thank you!
Sonagi428@reddit
Sounds like you got super lucky before! As others pointed out below, Champions League is likely behind these prices then. Hope you find something that doesn't cost a fortune :)
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Thank you! I might look into some neighboring towns, since I don't have to be in Budapest for the whole stay. Any recommendations?
Pepii-Pines@reddit
You could look into Százhalombatta maybe, it about a 30 min train ride away from Kelenföld Railway station in Budapest.
Sonagi428@reddit
I was born and raised in Budapest, and I don't know neighbouring towns well enough to confidently vouch for any of them, sorry! From the top of my head, I can only think of Szentendre, which I've visited many times before on daytrips. It's a really beautiful and picturesque place not too far from Budapest, but it became a very popular tourist spot over the years, so chances are prices have gotten high as hell over there too. :/ Transportation-wise, I think the farther you go from the city, the more of a pain in the ass it will be to actually get to Budapest. Our train system isn't the most reliable in the world, to say the least.
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Got it, that's very useful info. Thank you again 😁
Sonagi428@reddit
Glad I could be of help! Hope you have a great time in our lovely city :)
G-Litch@reddit
Please dont use airbnb. The city is full of hotels and motels
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Which are probably as expensive if not more, but I'll look into that as well. Thanks!
poppygodx@reddit
They are cheaper if you call them. Airbnbs are scammy, they may charge you for damages you missed photographing
Pepii-Pines@reddit
I think for this weekend the strategy for hotels to get full is totally different. Every hotel will only offer non-refundable prices, so if you cannot travel, though luck. I work in a 4* property not in the centre and the cheapest rooms sold for 800 EUR / night over the weekend. We still offer the price, only for groups and who are willing to stay from Friday to Sunday or Monday. For individual people the prices are over the top with being over 1500+ EUR / night. Busy weekends where major events are happening are always like this. Much better idea to look for a hotel outside of Budapest.
DorothyfromWonderlad@reddit
You should look around Buda on the M2 and M4 metro lines. It only takes a couple of minutes to be in the more touristy places in Pest, but might be cheaper (I’m not sure tho, but worth a check).
Ok-Suggestion7364@reddit
Which Site is this? :)
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
airbnb
Environmental-Ad8910@reddit
Maybe u can try out A&O hostels i live next to it and it seems pretty good. Lots of people are staying there and since it’s in the middle of the city, the 4-6 tram is literally minutes walk away, and you can get anywhere in decent time. (That’s why i’m living there in the first place. But i’ve only heard from it so idk.
Abhi_060780@reddit
Which is the best child friendly neighborhood? I have a toddler 2yrs age. If you have any recommendations about day care or schools that would really help
assertive_eggplant@reddit
i dont think that 5 nights in a capital city’s downtown for 1000€ is a lot 💁🏼♀️ but no specific event, maybe check hotels too. airbnb is shitty.
Ok_Spite_4597@reddit
i guess you are living under a rock or sum
assertive_eggplant@reddit
yep, i missed the football finals, sorry
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
I've stayed in Budapest for less than 200e for 5 nights, in okay places, private rooms, not hostels. Also I've always used Airbnb and haven't had bad experiences. To me this literally looks like a glitch in the app.
pityike_92@reddit
Also public transportation and metro is really good here, try booking a bit further away from the city center. And check hotels as well
shaguar1987@reddit
Budapest is super expensive. Did not expect to pay as I do in Stockholm for food
charliekunkel@reddit
Wow i was there just 2 weeks ago and paid $300 for 6 nights in a great air bnb.
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Right!! That's what I'm saying. This just looks insane.
AHungryRoach@reddit
As noted by others, the Champions League final will be on 30 May, which will obviously drive prices up.
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Yeah for sure, that's the culprit
Girderland@reddit
What prices are these? 5 days?
Aromatic-Education23@reddit (OP)
Yup
