9060XT 16GB for 1080p or 1440p
Recently my monitor broke and I'm seriously considering whether to get a 1440p or a 1080p monitor because, as games are becoming increasingly demanding and poorly optimized, I'm afraid of running at low FPS. I'll be upgrading my video card around 2028/2029 and I don't know if the 9060XT 16GB will be able to handle running games at 1440p with good graphics until then, especially since nowadays 1440p games are already having to run without Ray tracing and with FSR to achieve 70-90 FPS, and at 1080p running everything on maximum + Ray tracing at over 100 FPS. So, if you can help and advise me, I would greatly appreciate it. Should I get 1080p or 1440p, also considering that I will only upgrade the card in 2028/29?

You can play 1440 on 9060xt 16gb. Some tweaks here and there.. good to go

The size of your monitor is very important! 1080p on 24" monitor looks very close to 1440p on 27". If you play on m&k you are mostly 30 to 50cm away from the monitor so you cam easily run 1080p on 24" but if you like to grab a controller and lean back to play 27" at 1440p is the right way. At the distance with a controller you can enable frame gen or upscale that would give you good picture with smooth gameplay and you won't notice it on a controller if there is higher delay than usual.

I believe 24” at 1080p is equivalent to 32” at 144p
Cultural-Accident-71@reddit
Yes! You are right. It's the same PPI at 32" as 1080p at 24" My point was is to make clear to op that it totally depends on his use case and the environment. Way to maybe people don't understand that resolution is not everything if other factors are not clear for giving an advice.

As it lacks path tracing support and multiframegeneration It will stay as 1080p ultra settings with ray tracing for 2 to 3 years

Its an entry Level 1440p Card and Nobody knows whats in three years. 1440p is a Game changer in office.
Just get that monitor and change to 1080p if it isnt strong enough anymore?
Huge-Attitude9892@reddit
Or do the same as me. I got a 5070 with a 1080p monitor and in some games i just use DLDSR to 1440p for AA purposes since i hate TAA and DLAA in some games looks funny
Just4n07h3rguy@reddit
See, I went from 7800xt to a 9070xt because I got a 1440p Monitor I Need to work with. And Libreofffice etc. Are way better done on a native 1440p.
Huge-Attitude9892@reddit
To be honest i play games on my monitor that would be no problem even on 4K with the 5070. Dishonored 2/War Thunder/Ready or Not etc.
However i play VR too and the 5070ti is too expensive for me while some AMD cards had issues with VR in the past(RX7600/7800XT didn't had support for a while for example).
Even an RTX5060 does it for me with this monitor+the games i play flatscreen.
I needed a littlebit more raw power(not VRAM) for performance headroom to get a really consistent experience so i rolled with the 5070.
If it wasn't for VR then i wouldn't have upgraded from the 5060 since even that card was an overkill for me
SweetBacon923@reddit
its a lower end graphic card with more vram. you should aim for 5070 if you want RT or 9070/9070xt playing at ultra. im on 5070ti and lower visuals to high in every game. difference is minimum.
Huge-Attitude9892@reddit
OP probably got the 9060xt already.

4K tv with upscaling
ButterscotchTop194@reddit
Poorly optimised games are actually very rare. Reddit just like to cry about all sorts.
Anyway, to answer your question, go check benchmarks for games you play. Most sites do 1080p and 1440p
the_Athereon@reddit
You know you can just set your resolution to 1080p for the games it struggles to play at 1440p, right?
1080p would be wasted on this card today. Maybe some games out now would need to be run at 1440 with FSR or native 1080 just because they were built to be demanding. But those should be rare for now. In 2 or 3 years, you'll be playing at 1080p in almost every game if you haven't upgraded.
glizzygobbler247@reddit
Which you do by turning on fsr
RecalcitrantBeagle@reddit
The better way to do this is just turning on FSR/bumping down its quality setting. Ultra Quality setting for FSR at 1440p is basically just rendering a 1080p image and then upscaling it, it'll be much clearer than just stretching the picture by setting the 1440p monitor to 1080p, or putting it in a window.
Cultural-Accident-71@reddit
That's a terrible experience! Playing games in 1080p on 1440p monitor looks so bad it would destroy the game experience.
heemtrim@reddit
True I try to do 1080 on 1440p it’s sooooo ugly
aragorn18@reddit
It's not a great experience to run at 1080p on a 1440p screen. The number of pixels don't evenly divide and the image is blurry.
niallmul97@reddit
I'd rather a shit experience for a handful of games rather than an overall worse experience for everything else
aragorn18@reddit
Your choice. But, people should be aware of the limitations.

Run 2 monitors .. 1440p primary .. and get a 1080p secondary.
My wife has the Steel Legend 9060XT 16gb running an ASRock 27" 1440p 180hz 1ms curved primary monitor .. and a 22" 1080p 75hz secondary. She only games on the 1440p monitor (RDR2, Helldivers 2) though...
yeet_suace@reddit
Do you play esports titles that benefit from high frame rate or are you playing single player where a cleaner, crisper image is favorable at the sacrifice of a few frames?
Beneficial-Ranger238@reddit
You can always upscale if forced. I use one of my 9060xt in 1440p and the other in 1080p. Only difference between the two is I can run the 1080p one a step higher in settings like 1440p in high, 1080p in ultra.
It’s not that big of a hit in fps really.
legotrix@reddit
Actually I am running Howard’s legacy with this card on 1080p above 100 fps on a 165hz gigabyte f27g monitor, it is overkill but it is worth it.
But monitor prices are cheap now so I recommend to grab a 32 inch one on the thrifty side, some brand are gifting you 1440p for 1080p prices because there are less PCs being built heck you can even grab a Chinese 4k one for what I paid for my gigabyte years ago.
aragorn18@reddit
If you want to run everything on maximum with ray tracing and aren't a fan of upscaling, you should probably stick with 1080p.
