Is 1k too much for a 5070ti?
Posted by Kaisel_a@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 97 comments
I am looking to build a pc and is pretty set on the 5070ti. The price rn for it is very much outrages but I dont think the market will go down anytime soon..any thoughts on that? should i just bite the bullet and spend the 1k?
letsbefrds@reddit
Id probably get a 9070xt...
Kaisel_a@reddit (OP)
whats the differences on those? im leaning towards the 5070ti from seeing how well the 4080s still holding up..more like for longevity
Warskull@reddit
Personally, I wouldn't recommend going 9070 XT. This sub has a tendency to glaze AMD GPUs.
The reason they recommend it is the 9070 XT has a lower price and has similar pure rasterization performance. Gamer's Nexus has some good benchmarks.
They also downplay a lot of issues. While AMD's FSR upscaling has cause up, you have to use third part tools to add FSR to many games. Its native support is poor. Their frame generation's pacing is broken when VRR is enabled. In general it is bad enough that AMD's frame gen is still just a paper feature. AMD's performance also tanks when ray tracing has been involved and with lumen being a core featured of UE5 ray tracings is growing more and more common.
Then you have how AMD didn't port FSR4 back to the 7-series, despite a version of it being available with slightly worse performance. It is also looking like the next generation may again drop FSR features the 90 cards won't be able to support.
So you save $200, but there are a lot of downsides.
Lil_Hater112@reddit
Its not similar performance per doar dollar. Rasterisation isn’t the only metric in gaming. Once you start using dlss framegen and path tracing you will manage to play games on settings 9070xt can’t
iszoloscope@reddit
Username checks out.
TokageLife@reddit
Yeap, Optiscaler is absolutely amazing until you realize it isn't a magic one size fits all solution.
Take the recently launched NTE for example. The game ships with FSR3 and has aggressive anti-cheat flagging file modification so you can't Optiscaler. You can blame the developer sure but it doesn't do anything to change the end result so I'm stuck with an inferior experience even though my 9070XT is supposed to be able to use FSR4. These are the gaps people conveniently gloss over when saying the two GPUs are equal.
Lil_Hater112@reddit
ye, I hate when people say 9070xt is just 5070ti but cheaper.
I would get a 9070xt over a 5070ti if:
-budget doesnt allow
-im interested in online multiplayer games where framegen isnt recommended
-im not interested in Path tracing, Upscaling and framegen and like native and a working upscaler like FSR that does it s job , but overall, still prefer native
-if i dont care about extra 100w consumption
-if i dont care about doing work or streaming on the gpu
If someone is interested in single player games and wish the best experience, 9070xt is not an option if 5070ti is within 200-250 euros and you can afford it
AnotherFuckingEmu@reddit
I find the suggestion that path tracing is a consumer-ready tech hilarious. A 5090 struggles with it at its recommended resolution. Raytracing is a good middle ground and runs perfectly fine on the 9070xt.
You are not going to be doing any real path tracing on any card under a 4090/5090 without a metric fuckton of framegen and upscaling.
Lil_Hater112@reddit
Ok, but I at least HAVE the option to do use path tracing on a 5070ti, with upscaling and framegen and I am PERFECTLY happy to be able to do that and experience a 5090 experience ( not as polished)
I dont even have this option with a 9070xt. Nvidia offers you the option to max out games for 200 euros more compared to 9070xt. It s up to individual needs if you are happy to pay that price . But saying 5070ti is just like 9070xt but more expensive bcs "slopvidia" it s outright dumb take
Encouragedissent@reddit
OS plays a big role as well though. Generally you take a pretty big performance loss if you game on Linux using a Nvidia GPU. In latest benchmarks you usually see 20% even 30% + loss in performance. Where if youre running CatchyOS with latest Mesa 26 on an AMD GPU, the performance is going to be about equal to Windows 11.
Lil_Hater112@reddit
Ye, but Linux is like 3-5% of all users, so im sure whoever uses linux they already should know about AMD being better on linux
GoodJobBob69@reddit
Get the 5070ti. There is a reason AMD only hold 5% of the market and Nvidia 95.
Hot-Replacement5566@reddit
don't listen to this nvidia glazer who knows nothing about pcs

letsbefrds@reddit
Nvidia has always charged a premium over amd for similar performance per dollar.
What do you mean by holding up though? value wise or performance wise because the 7900XTX which came out the same still holds up very well.
Kaisel_a@reddit (OP)
i was talking about the performance
letsbefrds@reddit
Honestly a lot of companies have 30 day return policies with free shipping. I'd buy a 9070xt if it's not your cup of tea you can just return it and pick up a 5070ti. Unless of course you need the cuda cores.
You can also shop for used and open box if you wanna save a few bucks for either gpu.
Rocky-Arrow@reddit
In the most simple terms, unless you care about ray tracing, they are basically the same card
iTzJME@reddit
The 9070xt trades blows with the 5070ti, the 5070ti has better upscaling and path tracing, besides that they're very similar in performance.
Personally I don't think the extra cost for the 5070ti is worth it but if you need cuda cores for work I can understand going with it
SushiBump@reddit
$1000 is too much for a 5070ti in general, but $1000 is as fair of a price for a 5070Ti you can find these days.
Fredasa@reddit
Yeah honestly? I'm surprised GPUs haven't gone just as nuts as everything else (relative to their original MSRPs, I do of course mean). I consider it the clearest evidence of the semi-artificial nature of the price crisis, which in turn gives me at least a little hope that when supply returns, prices for RAM and such may also come decently close to where it originally was. (Because it's either that, or those parasites will be responsible for finishing off their own industry.)
Bio_slayer@reddit
They have, it's just been so long that people are starting to forget lmao. They've been crazy overinflated since the original bitcoin boom.
IrrationalRetard@reddit
Membah when you could grab a new GTX 780 for €500? I membah
Reterhd@reddit
I got a 2080 January 2019 according to my evga account for $700
My 4070ti super costed me $826 on july 2024 :( i couldnt find a 4080 at the time below a thousand
CrowdGoesWildWoooo@reddit
Anything less than 12gb is a hardpass for AI. Also there’s a preference to have one large GPU than multiple even when the spec is the same.
5080 having 16gb is both a blessing and a curse. If it has larger VRAM it would suffer as much as 5090. 5090 price is bonkers and by right it should just be around 2x of 5080 purely from spec, but market price is closer to 2.5-3.5x.
rockstopper03@reddit
Yep. Same reason used 4090s are bonkers too.
CrowdGoesWildWoooo@reddit
3090 wouldn’t have that much value if it is not because of its huge VRAM. If we don’t account VRAM even 5070 beats it by noticable margin and also it supports newer features and fresher warranty.
2raysdiver@reddit
GPUs haven't gone as nuts because RAM is just a small part of the cost of a GPU. Retail for 16GB DDR5 was about $60 +/- $10 this time last year. Now, it is around $220 +/- $20, So roughly a $160 increase. And since NVidia is the only buyer for GDDR7, the actual cost and cost difference is probably a bit smaller for them. Meanwhile the cost of a 5070 Ti is $200+ more than it was back in July. So it would seem to me that NVidia cards may be milking the situation even more.
chsn2000@reddit
They've been inflated ever since the crypto boom and never fully came down. For the most part, people just stopped building PCs and unlike RAM/storage there's more of a separation between pro and consumer hardware meaning demand has gone down overall.
Last piece of the puzzle is that Nvidia do not give a shit about Geforce profit margins so they haven't really bothered to raise MSRP.
InevitableSherbert36@reddit
You can get one for $900 on Newegg right now.
SteakandTrach@reddit
I’m glad I picked up a 9070 XT when they briefly came down to $650
Get_de_Coke@reddit
I got my gaming trio 5070Ti for $750 in May, 2025. I will hold that thing forever.
greentintedlenses@reddit
Got my 5070ti (prime) for that in December of 2025 even
tc05_@reddit
I bought a used 9070 XT for 550€, almost new with still 2 years of warranty
Luckyirishdevil@reddit
I regret not picking one up at launch when I had one in my cart. Live and learn.
SunnySpot69@reddit
Me too! No regrets. I did overpay on a 4th SSD but I needed one.
Temporary_Ice7792@reddit
Same here
HettySwollocks@reddit
I think I paid your equiv of $850, with all the AI and RAM nonsense not only are they gold dust to find (took me a while), you're going to have to assume the position.
UltimateSlayer3001@reddit
Yes
Tunisian-gamer@reddit
Too much because the 9070xt beats it and is like 800
soliwray@reddit
Currency? Region? These things matter when asking a question like this...
thestillwind@reddit
I don’t know
iszoloscope@reddit
I don't know if you're dead set at Nvidia, but what does the 9070XT cost in your country? It's comparable with the 5070ti with plenty of games, but a bit less features.
pereleux@reddit
I paid 900€ for mine, and sold my old one for 400€ so it was worth it, the price is too much but it will only be higher IMO.
PassageIllustrious14@reddit
1k for 5070ti is the average price in Sweden even before the ram crisis… the us folks are just way too spoiled with their dirt cheap price for literally everything… just get the 5070ti dude. 1000 is not even that bad for most places outside of the US
Alex--Le--Great@reddit
You can grab one for £800 on Scan. That’s what I did a month ago
abc133769@reddit
nah 9070 xt is the better buy

9070xt which is roughly the competitor of the 5070ti i got $800AUD last week with 2 years warranty which is the equivalent of $575USD

get a 9070 xt, similar performance and only 700-800$
-Businessman@reddit
You guys, this price was already the norm in EU even before the price hikes.
While you over NA are lucky to find one on 749€ MSRP, here in EU the CHEAPEST used to cost $930.
Currently the cheapest costs like $1090
Ridgeyyy@reddit
I wanted a white 5070 ti, so I had to pony up with 0% financing on my Newegg card. Figured $100 per month for a 5070 ti is worth it.
I was considering AMD, but after having owned a 9060 xt briefly; and a trial run of a 5070, I muxh preferred the Nvidia software. Youre not just paying for hardware. If you want DLSS updates for years on years (Will a 9070 xt get FSR updates?), frame gen (which is a legitimate benefit), and the other benefits of Nvidia; then I would redommend to buy once, cry once.
I will not lose sleep over an extra $250 when I got what I wanted with the least amount of compromises for the price point.
Syrath36@reddit
Its the cost of doing business. Is $50k too much for a new car?
OptimusMatrix@reddit
I just paid 1100 for my Gigabyte 5070 TI Gaming OC. I'm coming from a 3080 and I couldn't be happier. I can run everything on ultra at 1440p and I can do VR with it. I'm happy.
tricksbyjulius@reddit
It is too much. But with RAM prices and pretty much any electronic device skyrocketing in price, it makes sense. Kinda makes me wish I upgraded before the RAMpocalypse and the war.
oHast3@reddit
Id say yes but i also got mine for $739 on amazon
Calm_Hedgehog8296@reddit
I wouldn't pay that but also this is the lowest the price will be ever again
Ok_Complex9696@reddit
Imo if you're building a gaming pc and the $1000 price point for a 5070ti has taken you back a bit go for the 9070xt. If i remember correctly an asrock challenger costs around $699usd and will run basically whatever game you want for the foreseeable future. If you need the cuda cores though prepare to drop $1000 plus.
Or
Buy a prebuilt and spend 2-2.5k for everything and just replace and sell the trash psu and cl48 ram and mobo for video game money
misterholdem@reddit
If VR and video editing is a concern, 5070ti is great. Just flat screen save the money and go amd.
Hemish_21@reddit
There's a Asus prime 5070ti rn on Newegg for $899 and it comes with a free copy of pragmata

I mean yeah pricing is all out of wack atm. That's what I paid for a 5080 last year and I thought that was even pushing it a bit.
RichardFlower7@reddit
Glad I had the thought to build a new PC before Christmas last year, prices were normal. Got my 5070ti on a sale, $25 under msrp.
lNuggyl@reddit
I paid 1200 for my 5080, even then I had a 3090 trade in so I only paid 300$.
Kaisel_a@reddit (OP)
from what i can see, its like around 1.3k rn..
lNuggyl@reddit
Id just save the extra 300 and buy the 5080 for the vram.
Specific-Doughnut833@reddit
Its crazy to tell someone to spend $300 extra for something you arent even informed about.
lNuggyl@reddit
Im informed about the 5080, which is what im telling him to spend the extra 300$ for.
Nulolan69@reddit
5070ti and 5080 both have same amount of vram.
lNuggyl@reddit
You're late, I already found that out. Thanks
Kaisel_a@reddit (OP)
oh no i meant like the 5080 is around 1.3k
lNuggyl@reddit
I know.. if you already have 1000$ for the 5070 ti, may as well wait and spend 1.3 on more vram
semidegenerate@reddit
They both have 16GB
lNuggyl@reddit
Do they? I didnt know that. My bad
semidegenerate@reddit
Yeah, and it's the same physical GPU die, too. The 5070ti has around 15% of the cores disabled, though. They are pretty close in performance.

Is 20%-30% really worth 400 dollars? It’s only 599 for a 5070, though I do get the 12gb vs 16gb.
beedunc@reddit
Pretty much what they go for.
reddNOOB2016@reddit
i think its way too much, honestly

Dangerous-Traffic875@reddit
About 1300 Aud for me right now
quackster@reddit
There are occasionally deals around $900 but they go pretty quick. $1,000 is a pretty standard price right now.
AceLamina@reddit
Unless you're buying used, you're only going get one at 1k
I don't think it's outragous looking at the performance comparing to the 4080 super, especially looking at current 4080 super prices
I know MSRP is around 700 or whatever but Nvidia been ignored those so I just determine the worth of a GPU through performance these days
ImportanceActual2556@reddit
That seems to be the standard price for a 5070 TI at this point in time.

From what im seeing its fair
