I’d love to splurge a quicker roundtrip to ride their 748 and 346 one last time in J but Lufthansa is not part of any of my airlines points…
imaguitarhero24@reddit
Crazy that the 777 is basically the same size but only needs 2 engines
andrewrbat@reddit
the a340 basically has 5 APUs. not proper engines lol
DoomSlayer30@reddit
The A340-600 has more powerful engines compared to the older A340 models.
andrewrbat@reddit
Still not exactly a great performance aircraft

The Good thing About Bew Future Boeing 777-9X that Replacing the Long Serving A346is Fuel Efficient and Compatability to fil up to Maximum Seats other than Rivals Airbus A350XWB-900 and Airbus A350XWB-1000, Also 2 Engines But Just as Efficient as Boeing 777-9X

Ask Lufthansa German Airlines Management

It blew my mind in 2016 that I flew from Frankfurt to Seattle, in a 767. When I was a kid, you’d have made that trip in at least 2 flights. Now it’s done in a plane with 2 engines.

Climbing with just the curve of the earth after rotation, gotta love it.
No_Greed_No_Pain@reddit
I used to fly JFK-LHR several times a year in the oughts, and would specifically pick Virgin because they flew the A340s that were whisper quiet in the upper class.
Hugo_Ripanykazov@reddit
i'm in the same boat as you, but in a special position: I HAVE flown Concorde but HAVEN'T flown in a 380!
Mr_Mac_Pro@reddit
I’m fortunate to have flown on one a few years ago. I booked a Business class seat and they upgraded me to First. Such a delight
orbit99za@reddit
Honestly, Lufthansa had the best design and concept for bathrooms on these planes, in the cargo hold.
IcyTable6584@reddit
Agree…I really enjoyed not having to hear/see the constant door open/close and people queued up in front of the washrooms
Conpen@reddit
It was really fun to experience, although I witnessed an older lady really struggle with the steps. A downside I hadn't considered.
H4xxFl3isch@reddit
There are level lavatories at the front of the plane. She was just making it hard for herself.
IcyTable6584@reddit
Sigh…all the good looking planes are going away 😔
xdr567@reddit
What is the shortest or the cheapest route than one can fly on these things ? Asking for an aviation-nut. :)
Melech333@reddit
Such a pretty plane. Sad to see all the larger quad jets continuing to retire from service. I know it's a trend that's been going for decades now, but to the kid in me that loved seeing 747's, A340's, and the tri-jets like the L-1011, this kind of feels like a final close to this era of aviation.
adhdt5676@reddit
Could not agree more. My dad still talks about the trips he got to experience the 747.
I never got to experience a 74 unfortunately

It’s not too late. Lufthansa, Air China. Make your dream a reality!
orangelightpoll@reddit
Korean as well, no?
flyingtravel@reddit
I did this last year on Lufthansa knocked out both a 747 and a340 spent a whole 6hours in Frankfurt. Businesses class both ways too. It was a fun 24hours. Make your dream a reality.
Menotomy@reddit
I did something similar but with an A388 into Munich then the 744 (made sure to splurge for business class so I could be on the upper deck) back home from Frankfurt.
flyingtravel@reddit
Aw nice, I also made sure I got the upper deck on the 747. I have been on both top and bottom decks of the A388 on a couple different airlines, very cool.
Menotomy@reddit
I also did a flight on an A346. Both times I was all the way in the back for a redeye, but both times I lucked out with the aisle seat next to me being empty. Amazing how much better the sleep is when you can extend your feet into the adjacent seat area.
pinocchio_argentino@reddit
Sitting on one with air Korea now!
Public_Fucking_Media@reddit
It's really something you gotta experience if you can
Jordan_Jackson@reddit
I’m flying Lufthansa to Germany, in December. Part of the reason I chose the flights that I did was because they are both on the 747-400. I want to fly on one, one last time before they too are taken out of passenger service.
wongbikini35@reddit
Yes and including the Giant Airbus A380 Double Decker Aircraft Massive 4 Rolls Royce Trent 900 Engines and 500 passengers Capability on long haul Routes and Is also found Inefficient in Fuel Consumption like legends Boeing 747-400, 747-8, A340 Families.
Brambleshire@reddit
Saw her taking off as I drove into jfk for my trip yesterday
Deadpool2015@reddit
They had such a short lifespan. Some were scrapped at only like 10 years old.
SideRetired@reddit
What’s the best routes to take these before they’re gone?
Conpen@reddit
It's a "take what you get" situation. AFAIK they only fly routes out of FRA. Last fall they did BOS-FRA and HKG-FRA. I'm guessing they do JFK-FRA now based on this post. You gotta do some hunting on their booking pages.
sourcefourmini@reddit
Depending on the day, Lufthansa is flying any or all of the A340-600, 747-400, and A380 to Boston this summer. Very nice to get to see all of the quads represented, possibly for the final time.
Lawdoc1@reddit
I flew into EWR Friday afternoon and I am pretty sure I saw one of these while there (Terminal B IIRC). I was waiting in line at passport control and watching planes taxi in and out. It obviously stood out because of the quad engines.
The_End_Is_Tomorrow@reddit
Only got to fly on that type once.
CLT-MUC seat 1A (think it was Feb 2008)
Fond memories of watching the northern lights while sipping Johnnie Walker BLUE mid flight. (I'm not rich, it was an award ticket)
Connect_Community830@reddit
Super cool! I was on this flight 😄
Catsloveairplanes@reddit (OP)
What a small world lol
siouxu@reddit
I need to do s trip on one as well as the A340-300 before they're done
Difficult_Camel_1119@reddit
I had a trip to EWR booked on A340-600. Got an ac change to A330-300 😭
cod360@reddit
Edelweiss is great!
3rd-party-intervener@reddit
What’s the cheapest option to do it?
Sassaglas@reddit
Mahan Air 🇮🇷 has both, should be pretty cheap, lol
BonChance123@reddit
I flew on one of these once ten years ago to Frankfurt. It tripped me out seeing the bathroom downstairs, I still remember that vividly. I didn't know then how unique of an experience it was then, but I'm glad I was able to do it.
HortenWho229@reddit
It’s so long that economy class has a different arrival time
seboll13@reddit
So fucking sad.

Laughs in 777-9
ShawnThePhantom@reddit
I flew on an A340 once as a kid. My mom and I flew from Singapore to New Delhi to visit family and we had a stopover in Columbo. This was in the time before direct flights between Singapore and New Delhi became so cheap. The Singapore to Columbo route was an A340 flown by Sri Lankan but I didn’t realize it until after we got on the next plane and I was wondering why I only saw one engine out of the plane window.
Harry_The-Bastard@reddit
Had a surprisingly very comfortable flight on a Qatar Airways A340-600. Lovely jet to fly on.
DVOlimey@reddit
Great video on YT by Sam Chui of this aircraft undergoing maintenance at LH Tech in MNL
Gwinntanamo@reddit
That was great. Thank you for the recommendation!
No-Shoulder400@reddit
I flew on a Lufthansa A340 out of Frankfurt to AbuDhabi in 2012. I remember walking to my row wayyyy at the back of the plane and thinking just how massive this thing was. Shame they’re all phasing out.
wongbikini35@reddit
Those Taken the Boeing 777-300ER in other Airlines will understand why
wongbikini35@reddit
Yes abd Lufthansa German Airlines Arealsp Retiring tge legend Boeing 747-400 passenger types also in 2026 and expecting First 1st Delivery of Boeing 777-9X as Launch Customer.
Immediate_Garden_716@reddit
recall my excitement over lower deck lavatories. extremely spacey true “rest” rooms!!!
ContributionEasy6513@reddit
Can't wait to see this this in Mahan Air livery.
No doubt Lufthansa have kept this aircraft in tip top condition.
Ok-Guitar-6553@reddit
Flew on this plane back in March. Amazing
nalc@reddit
Love the A346. It and the KC-135R are freaking dimes. Give me a long narrow fuselage and four bigass turbofans and let's cook
