Why is it so hard to find a fuel hauling job in Florida???

My husband has been looking for a fuel hauling job and has had no luck at all. He has 15 months experience, all endorsements and TWIC card.
Applied, called recruiters (most don't answer) and nothing has came from it. We're even open to relocating but have heard nothing from out of state companies.
Does it just take longer than a normal CDL job to hear back? Does anyone know any fuel/hazmat/tanker companies that are hiring? Anywhere but preferably Florida.
Much appreciated!

Most companies require two years minimum of experience due to insurance.

Yea we're finding that out slowly, but places like Florida rock and tank lines, KAG, Circle K, Eagle, ect they've all been 1yr experience but no call backs. I would have thought Florida's fuel market would be better than most

Also gonna depend where you are in Florida. If your not near a port gonna be harder to find work

Nobody hires fuel haulers right now because were coming into the slow season. Might not have luck until October

Florida rock and kag hire anyone, if they aren’t responding there must be a reason.

They called my cousin for like 5 years trying to get him to work there. He has no idea how they found out he's hauled fuel before

A couple midsized trucking companies in Florida have closed in the last 18 months. There's likely more drivers than work. My trainer wanted to get into fuel hauling and he has 6 years of clean driving and couldn't find a job.

florida is saturated most fuel jobs want you to already be carded at the racks to even consider you regardless of your experience. 15months exp isnt alot either btw.

You need a couple years of exclusive minimum and they HIGHLY prefer you have tanker or hazmat experience.
They're not gonna hire any warm body like other jobs. Between the weeks of training, getting terminal access, FRs, It's 5 figures to onboard a driver.

This. Tractor trailer exp is not the same as hazmat - fuel delivery experience. That's why that specific section pays top dollar.

I used to live in Florida and the problem is the amount of residents who have CDLs and are looking for jobs. I swear to God that I once saw a guys sitting in front of a truck stop near Tampa with a sign saying "CDL Driver Looking For Work".
So many drivers and so few good paying trucking jobs.

Try Indian River transport, I believe they are OTR but they haul food grade. May not be fuel haling but you get the tanker experience which will help you in the applications

Maybe try Love's, Pilot, or any of the truck stop chains. But the 2 year thing is probably gonna hold you back .
