What do you use regularly that you probably shouldn't?

Mine is my hot water bottle. I can't say exactly how old it is, but it was made in West Germany.
(Yes, I know I need a new one. Yes, I know it could break and I could get burned. But i have faith in my old friend. Nevertheless, only I use it, I'd *never* let my child use it, just in case!)
Super-Craig@reddit
Our company created a drug that effectively replaces sleep, though a more accurate description would be that it allows you to be asleep while awake. There are some Bioengineers taking it who haven't slept properly for months, and while there are no physical side effects to taking it, there is the question of the psychological toll it may have over an extended period of sustained use.
ITAW-Techie@reddit
What's the drug called?
Maleficent-Search277@reddit
They might be referring to orexin receptor agonists? I’m not sure though
ITAW-Techie@reddit
I went through their comments and I dont think the drug or their company actually exists. They've made some wild claims about their life in just the last year alone.
Maleficent-Search277@reddit
I agree! After commenting, I did the same and I noticed they mention eugenics a lot… that with all the heavy hinting at sperm donation is a bit yikes. It’s mentioned way too often to be a typo of genomics. Likely a fantasist.
Wandering_ENTJ@reddit
There's absolutely no way that naming the drug wouldn't be against company protocol.
Although. Considering he dodged my question for more information on the drug it's most likely that he doesn't know much about the drug beyond it's effects.
Wandering_ENTJ@reddit
The owl was telling me about this awhile ago.
What's the longest anyone has ever gone without sleep?
Super-Craig@reddit
With or without using our drug? Regardless of which, I don't know the answer to either question.
Wandering_ENTJ@reddit
I know it's naive to think that you know everything. But this is the first time I've ever seen you not know the answer to something. It's even the first time I've seen you uncertain enough to use 'may' in your analysis.
It's probably against company protocol, but is there anything more you could tell me about the drug?
Super-Craig@reddit
You think far too highly of me. You could fill every bookshop and library in the world twice over with all the things that I don't know. My knowledge is very limited to subjects involving engineering, medicine, philosophy, psychology, science and technology, and even then, as has been demonstrated, I don't know everything that there is to know about these subjects.

Cotton buds in my ears. I know I’m not supposed to, but I use one every single day after my shower. My ears don’t feel right unless I do.
I can’t be the only one
ClockAccomplished381@reddit
Good one.
I think there's a whole heap of things that fall into the category of 'deemed unsafe, but because I'm yet to have a bad experience I'll keep doing it until I do'. So you've got drugs, alcohol, speeding, unprotected sex, unhealthy food, out of date food, and yeah, cotton buds.

Get one of those otex ear bulb things to squirt water up into your ears, they are great, brings out big lumps of wax, so satisfying.
Amata69@reddit
Where do you get those? All I've been offered whre I'm from was a spray called Vaxol and it only seems to help if you spray it in before the ear gets seriously blocked.

N7twitch@reddit
I use cotton buds in my ears, and when I inevitably compact my wax into an immovable briquette, I have one of those Bluetooth camera scoopy things. So dangerous but *so satisfying*.
DotCottonsHandbag@reddit
I got one of those Bluetooth ear camera things a few weeks ago and it turns out I’ve got no ear wax in my lugholes - quite literally none whatsoever. I think it might be because I’ve got the dry earwax gene, and although I do use cotton buds maybe once or twice a week, it’s only immediately after the shower if I’ve got that horrible wet feeling in my ears.
Do love a good cotton bud in the ear, though, feels amazing!

Be careful with the cotton buds with paper sticks. A couple of weeks ago I was using one after a shower and some of the paper came off and got stuck in my ear. I ended up buying one of those tools with a camera on and got it out.

Shampoo.
You shouldn'r shampoo more than a couple times a week... but I feel so dirty doing that
insanityarise@reddit
I used to have lovely long hair, but terrible dandruff for years, we always used head & shoulders too, but I always just had a dry scalp.
At some point I just stopped shampooing my hair completely, and just used regular soap once a week and rinsed it every day, my scalp completely cleared up.
It eventually fell out and now I'm completely bald on top, but I believe the cause of that was stress, drug use, poor diet and sleeping patterns, not the lack of shampoo.
fickle_tartan@reddit
Some people should, some people shouldn't, all hair types are different.
mtmp40k@reddit
Yeah, mine is properly greasy after one day. Oily scalp.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I swear mine catches oil in the air, because when I’m at home I’m a greasy mess after a day, in Wisconsin I stayed relatively clean even after 3 days without a shower (was on the go
Noon_Specialist@reddit
It's probably due to a change in diet, but it could be exercise, product misuse, humidity, heat, etc.
jemjabella@reddit
Hardness of the water can make a difference. I have super hard water at home and my hair feels pretty gross after 24hrs. If I go somewhere with soft water it takes days to feel the same level of 'grease'.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I see
Noon_Specialist@reddit
Even the oiliest scalp can go 3 days. By washing every day you're causing an overproduction of oil. Additionally, many people seem to believe that any amount of oil in their hair is detrimental, which isn't true.
weatherillj09@reddit
I genuinely want to know the context to this, because I have no idea if its bad me just quickly washing my hair every day when I shower. I have short hair and, while it looks fine not being washed it does feel noticeably different if I leave it a day, and after two days it definitely feels like it needs washing.
Noon_Specialist@reddit
Make sure you use conditioner, air dry, and avoid heavy products/overusing products. Try washing every 3 days. Most people can get away with once a week after a few months. If you're worried your shampoo and conditioner are causing an issue, try Aveeno.
fickle_tartan@reddit
There's not really a context to it, everyone is different so there's no hard rules for how often someone should wash their hair. Just do whatever works for you.
IHateTheLetter-C-@reddit
Mine lasts way longer now that I double shampoo. Shampoo as normal then do it again with a blob the size of a 10p, stand in amazement as it somehow lathers your entire head. Also air dry but get your head as dry as possible with the towel

Probably ordering groceries through Deliveroo. It's not that I'm lazy, I have a disability and it's easier to order through them than the effort to get dressed and go to the supermarket. The fee's piss me off but what can you do.
When I was a kid we had a stone/ceramic hot water bottle. Probably the health and safety today would go mental over it. But stayed hot for ages, kept your feet nice and toasty in the winter months. I never knew they had to be replaced, my daughter had a Simba one that she had from about 6 years old. She used it up until about 3 years ago and she's nearly 30, oops.
klmarchant23@reddit
Why do you not get a supermarket subscription for delivery?
Embarrassed_Park2212@reddit
They still don't deliver it in bags. I think the only one that does, at the moment, is ocado.
blisspie@reddit
Why not shop at Ocado? There’s some good deals to be had if you don’t go for pre-made stuff.
Embarrassed_Park2212@reddit
I might do. I've decided to do a big shop just after I get paid then top up as needed through the month. I do tend to cook mostly from scratch. I usually go through morrisons at amazon but next month will try Ocado.
elaine4queen@reddit
I’ve been using them for years. I drive but if I did an in person shop it’d trash me. You can return the bags, as well.
JustAnother_Brit@reddit
With Tesco and Waitrose you can request that they deliver it in bags it’s a little extra but could make a difference for you
Embarrassed_Park2212@reddit
Tesco don't, as far as I'm aware. Believe me I have looked into this endlessly. Neither do waitrose. They say the driver will assist but I've never had that happen. I think the only time the driver did help was when I had my Christmas grocery delivery and he was eager to get cracking.
PuhskintiEnjoyer@reddit
Morrisons absolutely do! I end up with so many from them as they hand over everything in bags by default. They're even categorised for freezer, chilled etc. You can hand them back next time and they refund you a few pennies per, which is great. I used to order from Asda and I'll never miss the rush at the door to quickly lob everything into my house without bags whilst the driver waits (not assisting, like you said). Never again!
Embarrassed_Park2212@reddit
Well, thanks for that, I honestly didn't check Morrisons. I suppose after all the others not using bags, didn't think they would.

I let my chores pile up, then over caffeinate to the point of feeling blood go through my veins to get them done, then ignore me chores for another week

I still use the one my mum gave me when I went to uni, so at least 42 years old, probably older. Like everything else, stuff from the Old Days was made to last in a way that modern stuff isn't. The whole "replace it every year" is just Big Hot Water Bottle talking. (Yes, I know they do split and people do get scalded, but I bet they're all newer ones.)

I'm online way too much! As for the hot water bottle, please replace it. I keep hearing stories about people ending up with permanent burns - leaking, oozing, agonising burns - because they didn't replace their bottle. The rubber will degrade over time even if it's not visible.

My hot water bottle was new in 1982. It's made of thick rubber with a solid screw-on stopper, and I figure it's solid enough to keep using. I don't put boiling water in it any more, though, just microwave it.
