You can ask but they might say no now we are in a new financial year.

I don’t understand this sorry. I’m going on my 1st mat leave in September. So I should accrue my regular holidays plus all bank holidays that occur while I am on mat leave?
AmayaSmith96@reddit
Yes, plus any Christmas shut down days. I went back to work a few weeks ago and accrued something like 50+ days.

Only if they gift the staff an additional day for that. Perfectly legal for a business to say "We're closed on Christmas day, this comes out of your annual leave entitlement".
Dry-Programmer2645@reddit
50 is amazing! Did you have a lot of unused holiday before you went on mat leave?
AmayaSmith96@reddit
I carried over 8 days!

When you are off on Maternity leave you accrue all the annual leave and bank holidays for the duration you are on leave and you have the entire year to use them when you return. I returned from mat leave in January and I am using the days to work 4 days a week up until the end of June

Even though my leave period has renewed? Long story short but my whole mat leave was dealt with really poorly and guidance was next to none. As a result this has happened and I wasn’t advised otherwise and ultimately missed out on 8 days leave
Dimac99@reddit
Yes, those holidays are your legal entitlement.
Criticada@reddit
Defo ask. You would’ve still accrued those days no matter what.
_isolati0n@reddit
Yes you should be entitled to this. I got an extra 2 weeks holiday by claiming them back after mat leave but I did have to send in a request, it wasn't automatic.

Mention it to HR, when I returned to work from mat leave, I had to tell them how many days I was owed.
And then double check you got all your unsed days from your maternity leave and any not used in the year you went. When I returned I had 50 days to use, ended up taking every Friday off for 5 months.
Its your holidays, claim them!

No harm in asking.
