Got myself a Voodoo2 again after selling two back in 2001.

Well, it seems i'm not the only one who sold 3 of this baby's back in the days....anyways, i'm ok with nglide. Enjoy yours!.

The worst part is it wasn't just two of these. It was a box full of other stuff like a now highly sought after Videologic Apocalypse PCX card, the card that made me see a fully accelerated game for the first time, Ultim@te Race. We simply don't forget this stuff
myw4ylongway@reddit
Sad indeed...you had some good stuff, but this is life and bad decisions.
Veddermandenis@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's the harsh truth. I was barely 20 at the time and could have never imagined we would grow up and miss this stuff
myw4ylongway@reddit
Hehe, yep....the saying is true; young and naive.

I know there's lots of technical reasons why it fell out of favor but I always thought SLI was one of the fascinating "what ifs".

I built two quad sli machines recently, GTX295 and GTX590 (something I couldn't even dream of buying at release) and one cool CrossfireX machine featuring and Atomic Watercooled HD3870X2 (I actually had a system with HD 3870 cards in CF and a Q6600 for some years). I know they're a waste of energy but man do I get a Kick out of them.

I never used SLI, but I remember when I built my X79 based board...it would have been likely in 2012-2014...I remember being fascinated because the motherboard came with the SLI bridges for both ATI and Nvidia chips, I seem to recall it supported up to 4x Nvidia GPUs and up to 2x ATI GPUs.

Der q6600 ist aber auch übertaktet gerannt!😍

Yes, definitely, my G0 stepping was running at 3.6ghz watercooled

I see those old Alienware and Falcons Northwest ads featuring computers with SLI’d Voodoo2s and still think “ohhh man….the POWER!”

I made the same mistake and sold mine back then, but finally grabbed a pair of Voodoo 2s again in 2015. They’ve been the heart of my Windows 98 rig ever since and still perform like a charm. It’s definitely the best way to experience that era authentically. Just a fair warning: collecting this stuff escalates quickly once you start again. Before you know it, your house is full of beige boxes!

Alte Zeiten. Ich hatte zwei von diesen Dingern.🤤

I actually skipped the TNT and went directly to a TNT2 Ultra which I actually still own.
Plastic_Spend_9762@reddit
Def behalten! Der TNT 1 hat über Nacht ,die Voodoo 2 sli obsolet gemacht. Ich kann mich noch an den Benchmark erinnern.

It was the beginning of 3DFX's downfall

Du hattest alles in einer Karte ,das war dann der genickbruch

S3 Trio 64v+ und ne Voodoo, der erste von meinem Geld.

We don't forget that type of thing

meanwhile me who is a professional hoarder who would never consider selling any gpu i buy
2HDFloppyDisk@reddit
I let a lot of stuff go over the past 30 years and finally had the chance to build the collection back up. No way I'd let things go now.
fivetriplezero@reddit
Don’t feel bad, I did the same thing circa 2002.
Gave away a Micron Pentium 2 with Voodoo2 to a friend. At the time it was an obsolete machine that could no longer do what I wanted.
And I too have made up for it over the years.
Veddermandenis@reddit (OP)
Yeah I know, that's just the way things are. Back in the late 90's I usually had to sell to buy new stuff
Lumpy-Valuable-8050@reddit
well i sure do hope n4020 shitbooks aren't sought after in the future 😂 otherwise then i would be in a pickle!
Veddermandenis@reddit (OP)
I don't do it these days either (I'm 44) and I've been getting some nice iconic cards for the last 10 years or so
LeftyTheSalesman@reddit
Nice, I hope you got it for cheap. I had two pairs, but the prices got so insane that I sold the 8MB pair and just kept the 12MB pair.
Veddermandenis@reddit (OP)
I paid 120€ complete in box (actually the box can be seen in the pic) and it came with a Rage 128 card as a bonus which I think would be a nice 2D card to go along. Just yesterday I almost pulled the trigger on a Creative Labs Voodoo2 (the ones I had back in 98/99) cib for 200€ but I thought it was more than I wanted to pay. Truth is the deal was sold shortly after going online and yes, I'm already regretting not going for it.
