Is there a modern airframe that has comparable STOL capability to the Fiesler Storch?

Plenty, there are some insane STOL competitions in Alaska. It's usually not a specific airframe but a basic kit build aircraft with a whole number of upgrades.

Mike Pateys Draco X can basically just take off from standstill, but that's because he put probably a million dollars into a STOL plane lol and used a turboprop
NotACompleteDick@reddit
He crashed it taking off in a crosswind when he could just have taken off across the runway instead. He's going to build another one.
ii_Narwhal@reddit
That was the original Draco, he's already rebuilt it into Draco X
NotACompleteDick@reddit
Has he? He hasn't published the videos.
ii_Narwhal@reddit
He has all the videos sitting in a backlog from what I understood.
NotACompleteDick@reddit
He hasn't been releasing much. So what is the registration? We should be able to see if he has been flying it. I figured he'd been busy with his military day job.

Idk why you are doubting me, all of the recent Draco videos are from 5 years ago, when he crashed it. Idk why he is uploading them now.

Technically, every plane can take of from a standstill
Schmittiboo@reddit
Yup, with enough headwind that is.

The KitFox is a fantastic STOL

Any helicopter will beat it in every category…

Including cost to operate, fuel consumption and more..

Pilatus PC-6, but it takes more runway. But it's actually usable to transport quite a bit of cargo.

Cub comes in mind.
NotACompleteDick@reddit
Not a standard Cub, but many of the Carbon Cubs and various other aircraft.

The Piper J-3 is only two years younger than the Storch. The Storch had its maiden flight on May 10, 1936. The J-3 in 1938. The exact date is unknown.
Vau8@reddit
Thanks for the insight, had those supercubs with garmin-suites in mind, but that doesn't make an modern airframe, you're right.
Awesome username btw :D

Lots of aircraft will do what the Storch did, and on much worse terrain. Steve Henry's Highlander is certainly an extreme example.

To do what?

Just stolling around.

Just out for a stol.

Yo mama

It's a valid question.
If the goal is to make an aircraft that can take off within the shortest distance we have helicopters.
So really it depends on what the purpose of the aircraft is, because all designs involve trade offs.
Great_Specialist_267@reddit
And even the Luftwaffe superseded it with a helicopter in WW2…
Only_Individual_3960@reddit
And it was an intrusive thought

I think the PZL-104 Wilga and especially the Draco version has a similar role: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PZL-104_Wilga

Do helicopters count? Does the Harrier count?

Helicopters.

Not sure how they compare on payload but the Zenith CH750 is pretty much the modern day equivalent.

The Slepcev 3/4 replica, and Just Aircraft Super STOL.
