The real way is to tolerate this for years, use it as character building, and then years or decades in the future you yourself become the patriarch.
There is nothing more rewarding than being able to support people directly that have nothing to offer in return. There is no greater power or responsibility as a male. The most amazing things come to you if you can master this one skill, which in reality is a collection of multiple skills which takes years of cultivation and patience.
A generation ago this was unremarkable. A generation before that, the default. Before that? Nearly universal.
Unless you are less than able-bodied, living part time in an alternate arrangement (such as a soldier), or continuing an education that is likely to pay off better than taking a job now would, there's no reason you can't make a contribution to the family home, and your own benefits from it. That doesn't mean presenting your kid with a bill for their childhood expenses, or kicking them out if they don't have a job within weeks of graduating high school, or charging them market rate even. Teaching responsibility, adult responsibility, means expecting that they will contribute via money or work to the costs of their own existence and comfort, to the tune of what they can reasonably be expected to produce.
It's not common in the US but it isn't unheard of. Mostly happens if the kid is a fuck up and the parents don't want to just kick them out but need him to get his shit together and actually hold down a job.
In the US it's completely normal for their parents to abandon their kids and while crying about family values and such. Other countries are more civilized.
Some parents just favor one child over the others. OP's parents favored their daughters over their son.
My parents favored my younger brother over me because of his academic ability in middle and high school. I was the son who got kicked out, had to pay rent after 18, did all the chores, wasn't purchased a car, etc.
Today my brother lives in my father's bedroom pining about the fact that his degree didn't translate into a high powered executive position, while I run my pool business out of a home I own and I've actually leveraged this into a scenario kind of like what OP is describing.
Now I'm the golden boy. Funny how that worked out.
I try to tell this to parents who complain about their zoomies to me as I'm a bit of an earlier zoomer is that sometimes people won't be all mapped out at the "age they should be". Many people peak early and some haven't even gotten close to their full potential. I don't necessarily see a problem with a zoomer that isn't demanding to be able to drive and do everything himself by age 20.
I mean I didn't even get my drivers license until i was 22 because i was a pretty immature brat for too long. my older brother choose to hang out and party instead of take anything seriously until he was around his 30's and now he's doing really well and drives a luxury car. Nobodies story is ever going to be this perfect guy who did everything right the moment he turned 18 lol
This will only make you a stronger man if you can shake off the bitterness.
I lived in a double standard house as well. I was spanked my sister's bever had a hand laid on them. My sister's side was always taken even when I was innocent. I had a job and paid for my car/insurance and all my extra activities since I was 15 but my parents funded my sister even getting her jobs well into her late 20s.
She turned out to be a depressed, anxious medicated, paycheck to paycheck, they/them who has leeched off my parents non stop why I have been pretty successful and live a very comfortable family life on my own.
I'm semi-scared that this will happen to my sister. Parents fund her, never had to get a job, had her car given, doesn't pay her gas or phone.
At least she plays sports and thinks they/thems are retarded and keeps her distance. but then again, i think Zoomers tend to be a bit more based than millenials.
Uhm, sweaty, the political divide between sexes is the worst in zoomies. Zoomie women are more liberal than any other generation. It's only zoomie men who are more conservative.
similar story here. my sister turned out to be completely dependent on my parents and still living with them with her kid. she blames them for all of her mistakes.
The greatest lie ever told is that the west is in a oppressive patriarchy
Women not only get the most tax benefits, get to NOT Have to die for their country if a draft is implemented. But now women are earning more money, and graduating at rates higher than men.
But the top Fortune 500 companies are men so I guess all that means nothing
Plus or minus quite a few catastrophes. The 1917 influenza outbreak was not because women had the vote. Also might mention that there are countries contemporaneous to Western ones who did NOT give women the vote that are pretty inarguably not doing as well as us.What happened in Namibia and the Central African Republic and Saudi Arabia over most of the last century happened without women having the vote.
Western civilisation survived that outbreak just fine. A good amount of people died, society recovered, and we moved on. Killing masses of people in a civilisation is less damaging to it in the long term than destroying the fabric which it is based upon.
What happened in Namibia and the Central African Republic and Saudi Arabia over most of the last century happened without women having the vote
And funnily enough, the West started visibly collapsing after elected politicians allowed immigration of people from such regions into the West, a policy which female voters support significantly more than male voters do.
Western countries actually rebuilt quite effectively after WW2. Germany was particularly destroyed by bombing and became an industrial powerhouse in the following decades.
It’s because they’re so nice / trusting that it makes them invitingly easy to be manipulated by our enemies into hating their ancestors/ country/ fellow man
I think that's a significant factor but it's more the effect of an imposed illusion of a dominant narrative. Women need to follow the tribe to survive. If the whole tribe of cavemen worships the vengeful fire god Goobabooga, and a woman in the tribe says "Actually I don't see any empirical evidence for the existence of Goobabooga, it is possible for fire to exist by other causes", then that woman is being thrown into the pyre even though what she said is perfectly rational. So women evolved to follow the dominant narrative. They don't choose which rival chief to side with based on a rational evaluation of their domestic policies, they choose based on who has the most supporters in the tribe. They gained their means of survival (social status/popularity) by sucking up to whoever was the most powerful and making displays of loyalty, rather than by accomplishing work pragmatically.
So what this means in the modern day, is that if some hypothetical group with significant influence over media, information, and institutions imposes a particular narrative onto every screen, every billboard, and into every government/corporate meeting, it will be seen as the socially dominant narrative and it will be followed regardless of how obviously irrational and counter-civilisational it is or however unpopular it actually is among the general population. Any ideas against this narrative will be considered evil heresy regardless of how well-evidenced or rationally stated.
In Nazi Germany, the Chinese Maoist revolution, the French revolution, women were some of the most devout supporters of the new regime. "It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers-out of unorthodoxy."
For women, it's feelings > facts. They live in their own subjective and emotional reality that is detached from objective reality. It makes them fundamentally precarious to give voting rights to.
I think you could appropriately describe society as a gyno-centric patriarchy. We are almost exclusively focused on women's benefit, but everywhere it matters it will be competent men running things and providing those benefits.
I think it’s telling how little we think of family and children, when the tradition of women entirely running the home was diminished to be seen as worthless
As if the only determinant of value, is economic output
As if how much money you make is literally more important than loving and nourishing your literal offspring
Unironically it’s capitalist poisoning that convinces someone it’s not of the upmost importance to take pride in raising your kids and running your family. We got absolutely tricked
Men running things that women have no interest in. Women do not have the obsessive personalities or limitless ambition that men do. If there was a 3rd political party that captured every female vote they would dominate the country. Every board of directors would kill to have a hot girl boss running shit as a figure head.
patriarchy and matriarchy, both as terms and as practiced, refer to rule by the father and mother receptively, from the latin roots. this is really important, because when you start looking not at men and women but at (proverbial) fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, brothers and sisters, you see a much clearer pictures of the hierarchies and their dynamics.
roughly, the patriarchy hierarchy is old men > young women > young men > old women. the cyclical nature of the inter-generational power struggle makes it naturally resistant to change; young women enjoy benefits in the present, young men stand to inherit power if they survive, and old men have the power now, so a switch to matriarchy is sought only by aging and forward-thinking women.
or something like that. at the end of the day the elites still own all our shit.
If we dont control for education, job experience, etc, yeah.
Women have a lower median salary. The original guy is basically saying women pay less taxes, but that would be because they have a lower median salary.
I was forced to work because i wasn't good in school, my sister flunked but wasn't forced to as well
I had to pay bills since 19, my sister only started last year at 25
I had to pay for a solid chunk of her car and her computer for online lessons
Daily incelposting is getting annoying. I'm sure anon left out the fact that his sisters were probably in college while anon avoided college to pursue a full time career as a 4chan janitor
Mom’s rule was that all kids still living in her house at 25 have to pay under-market rent. Anon is bitter because he had to pay under-market rent for the basement age 25-35.
Nah, it's not uncommon; I'm living it. I work full time, cook, clean, and will eventually have to pay for my own education. My sister doesn't have to do any household work and is getting all her education paid for her. Fucking blows at times but it feels good knowing that you have grit unlike them.
One problem is that you can end up too independent. Needing your friends and family helps build/maintain relationships that can easily wither away when you can do everything you need for yourself.
We're social creatures that are designed to live in a society and a benefit of this is making up for eachothers weaknesses. It's not natural to have to take on everything by yourself.
Struggles and asks him to contribute far below market rates after turning 18
Later on once he's moved out and relieved her of his expenses she's able to support his sisters more easily (also he left out they were in college while he was neet-adjacent)
Dude is super mad at person who poured love and attention and resources in him and jealous of perceived inequity with his younger siblings
Avoids them instead of resolving the issues and staying involved with even his sisters, who had no input or power over the circumstances of his grievance
Fuck that. Fair is fair, you don't charge one kid rent and then not the other when they reach the same age, gender has nothing to do with it.
If things are magically affordable once OP moved out, the mom should've charged his sisters anyway, put the money in to savings and split it evenly between them when they needed money in the future.
