Gigabyte B850I Aorus Pro won't update BIOS

So I just built a brand new PC and was about to update BIOS to FA9b. I went through the procedure in BIOS, everything was ok and I clicked reboot, the system rebooted itself, the fans and the RGB were working but there was nothing on the screen. I also checked the motherboard and the troubleshooting LEDs were stuck on the DRAM stage (this didn't happen when I first powered it on and it got to the boot stage just fine).
This went on for about 10 minutes when I decided to turn it off and back on again. It booted to BIOS just fine and showed that the BIOS is still in the FA2 version (the troubleshooting LEDs got to the boot stage this time too). I then tried this 2 more times, I tried changing the flash drive but always with the same result. I'm now on my third attempt and the computer has been idling with nothing on the screen for 1 hour now.
I made sure to format the flash drives to FAT32 and I unzipped the BIOS file to the flash drive instead of copying the zip file. I also found this thread which describes the exact same problem as mine but I never had XMP enabled in the first place as it's a brand new PC. I still tried enabling and disabling XMP but it didn't help.
I'm not sure what to do now. Should I try the BIOS flashback method? Or should I just not update at all?

Had to sleep but there is something you can try and it should hopefully work.
If you have a usb 2.0 around or just buy a cheap one, they're better for bios updating usually.
Steps: reformat a usb 2.0 to FAT32 with MBR partition map. MBR is master boot record.
Make sure you still name it to GIGABYTE.bin
Turn off the PC but keep the PSU switch ON and plug the USB into the BIOS usb at the back.
Now on your motherboard, there's a button and it should say Q-FLASH Plus. Press the button or hold it for 1 second just to be safe it activates.
Once you press it the LED should start blinking..
Usually this process takes 5-10 mins but once it starts blinking just leave it for 15 minutes and come back and the light should stop blinking.
Honestly go for the 2.0 usb, sometimes the motherboards has issues with 3.0. You could try it, but I definitely recommend 2.0

thanks for the reply. I've decided to abandon BIOS update for now and move on to OS installation and ran into a problem here too (check edit) so it seems there is a wider problem. I'd rather not do BIOS flashback until that's solved.

Did you rename the update file to 'GIGABYE.bin'?
Also sometimes a usb 2.0 works better and make sure to always plug it in the bios labelled usb

Ok so after it's been idling for about 90 minutes with nothing on the screen I turned it off and back on and BIOS was still in the FA2 version. I formatted the flash drive again and copied the update file to it and renamed it to GIGABYTE.bin. I went through the procedure for updating BIOS and it seems like the same thing has happened, it's been idling with nothing on the screen again for about 15 minutes now.

What about just updating the BIOS in the UEFI? Screw doing the BIOS flashback for now.

I'm not doing BIOS flashback, I'm updating it from the BIOS like you normally would.
