Something has slipped
Minimum-Jacket-705@reddit
Duct tape and baling wire ain’t gonna help that one.
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Me thinks you are correct
UltraViolentNdYAG@reddit
Carry bearing bracket is back there somewhere. Retrace steps! lol.... at least it's a cheap and easy fix!
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Found it on the overpass shoulder about 1/2 mile behind me
Outside_Squirrel_839@reddit
But Gorilla tape will!!
EnvironmentalGift257@reddit
Time to break out the #9 wire then. I’ve never seen a problem that can’t be solved with one of these 3 materials.
oneshadeoff@reddit
Gonna have to get the bubble gum out for this one
pinkypie80@reddit
Not with that attitude
Miserable_Quail_5780@reddit
Did you try setting it to wumbo
NoChilly84@reddit
it's your own fault for inspecting, now you have all this extra unnecessary stress
marcmayhem@reddit
See this is why I just get in, get it started, and get down the road. Problems don't exist if you ignore them.
Coolmister57@reddit
Until you're skiding into another car and off the road down a cliff into a tree which falls in the river...
Farmerstubble@reddit
Just turn up the radio!

Hello yea!!
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Totally with you on that.

BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
It definitely adds time to my day
1Stack_Mack@reddit
Most scales are closed on Saturday. Send it!
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Statistically speaking scale houses only catch 10 to 15% of violations
1Stack_Mack@reddit
Yep!!!! Run that bitch!
Hot-Association-3722@reddit
Had you not taken a picture there would be no proof it didn’t happen while driving
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
True!
heartatpeace@reddit
As a new CDL grad (that thought they knew pre inspection fairly well) what am I looking at here that’s not correct/ wrong?
I want to know for the future because I genuinely can’t tell by the pic I assume it’s the blue part being exposed ?
HowlingWolven@reddit
The blue part (the splines) is a symptom of an overextended drive shaft.
In this case, it’s overextended because the carrier bearing that supports it in the middle has failed, allowing the yoke to fall to the deck.
Catch it early and it’s a relatively simple fix: new bearing, new hanger.
Don’t catch it: your driveshaft will come unhooked and try to pole vault in the next pothole.
CashWideCock@reddit
It’s the drive shaft. The blue part is called a slip yoke. Looks like the carrier bearing failed allowing the driveline to fall to the ground.
Ok-Combination7287@reddit
As someone who is about to start cdl school i assume this would leave to a lose of engine (worst) and obviously no power to the drive wheels. So yeah that's a big deal!
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
The good news is I’m 100 miles from Atlanta and my mechanic is on his way down. Who is an employee so it will be a minimal cost.
Hanox13@reddit
That’s the driveline coming apart (presumably because a carrier bearing failed)
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Most likely one of the bolts holding the carrier bearing onto the slip oak has come loose or wormed its way out somehow
Lone_Wanderer2076@reddit
I needed parts, sorry man. Bandit can't be sitting idle too long, that Smokey from Texas might catch up.
Blackdogtrucking@reddit
You may not see it in the picture, but don’t worry if you saw this in real life you notice. Perspective is everything!

JB Weld
Kenworthsteve@reddit
Jb good stuff. I sawed my chain saw gas tank with my other chainsaw.(Don't ask)
Jb held solid. 6$ vs at least 75$.
easymachtdas@reddit
Wha-- Whaaaaaat?
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
So many questions
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
I’ve heard Q-bond is good too

“Does not effect the safe operation of the vehicle”
BCouto@reddit
For about 10mins
Cyanide612@reddit
Now there’s your problem. You needed red loctite not blue
CLSYLORD12@reddit
oh so that's why they call it a "Slip Joint".
TruthWithoutTribe@reddit
I ain’t no gynecologist, but I don’t think that’s supposed to look like that.
SnotM3@reddit
I had that happen a couple years ago. Truck was in the shop, took a greasy beater to PA. Heard a weird hum for 20 mins, in the middle of nowhere of course, then 💥!
Good ol' Amish gents unloaded me right in the road🤣 Long day tho after that...
Sorry to see it, bro.
Bill Clinton voice I feel your pain!
Stay safe and God bless...
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Well, by the time my mechanic arrives, the rain will have moved through and I won’t have to be out in the rain
SnotM3@reddit
LOL nice... Anddd that's why we pay em the big bucks!😂
emdefmek@reddit
Well, at least the tow will be easy.
IgnoringHisAge@reddit
One of the tips that my instructor in school all those years ago gave that stuck with me: “look for shiny metal. That’s usually a problem”
MOBIUS__01@reddit
As my former employer once said “Drive the truck or go home”
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
I would say you made the right choice
LonelyMachines@reddit
I had this happen a few years ago. I called the office and told them they'd need to send someone out or get it towed in.
The response was, "can't you just limp it back to the shop?"
OK. Deep breath. Let me explain what a drive shaft does.
That was a long day.
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Sounds like you know, my brother
Farmerstubble@reddit
Well that is the wrong way!
Dave_Duna@reddit
It's colored blue. That means it's inert.
Send it. That freight isn't gonna deliver itself.
thatguyleevy@reddit
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
up3r@reddit
The hammock style driveshaft!!!
Is it also ELD exempt?
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Only if it’s local
driver004@reddit
She just wants the tip baby
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
Eww.
amazingmaple@reddit
Carrier bearing got tired
BonusHour8693@reddit (OP)
