Looking for a golf club

Just moved to Milton Keynes - I’m based in Heelands.
I’m looking for a golf club without an extortionate joining fee. I’m a decent golfer (5 handicap) and would like to be able to play 9 holes after work sometimes then a full round at the weekend.
A good social side to the club would be good, I am new to the area so do not currently know any golfers.
Where should I look?

I asked this question when I first moved here also, might be some more answers in there: https://www.reddit.com/r/miltonkeynes/comments/1ik318u/mk_golfers_what_golf_courses_do_you_recommend/ Aspley Guise seems like the best option but obvs has a high joining fee.
Abbey Hill probably fits the bill but I've also heard it can get busy on the weekend. Whittlebury Park is good and the drive's not too bad - 3 x 9 hole courses which are all interesting, and a short course.
Otherwise there's Leighton Buzzard (they have a smaller joining fee but a v long waiting list last I asked), Buckingham, Bedfordshire (might also have a waiting list)

Cheap and cheerful = Windmill Hill. It's not the best kept course but can't argue with the price. Abbey Hill gets pretty backed up on the weekends but not a bad facility. I was going to look at Whittlebury Hall Golf, they have a points membership that is very reasonably priced. Bit out of MK but you have Silverstone, Aylesbury Vale, 3 locks and Buckingham golf courses too.

Backed up as in slow pace of play? I’m kind of leaning towards abbey hill at the minute but not sure. I think whittlebury is a little further out than I would want

Yeh I have always found it a long round on the weekends.

Seen you are a man of culture with the league of legends post 10years ago 🤣 do you play anything these days?

If you don't mind going a little further afield tilsworth Golf Centre (just off the A5 past Hockliffe) is I think the nearest golf course with a top tracer range.
Additionally off peak membership for unlimited play after lunch is only £500/550 (5day/7day)

Aspley Guise is around a year wait list for membership. They do an associate membership while you're on the wait list though so you can still play the course but pay a green fee. Lots of lower handicaps as well there. Plenty of roll ups, comps and team games to join in with so real easy to feel like a part of the club

This was my number one choice as I know someone up there but don’t think I can justify a £750~ joining after moving house sadly

I think they let you spread the joining fee over a few years. May be worth asking if they'll allow that

My neighbour is a member at Abbey Hill and they have quite a few social events going on, i’ve joined him a few times and its been pretty good.

I'm not a golfer but have friends who are over the past 20 years. They all used Abbey Hill golf club and it's not very far from Heelands. There's a good social club there too.

The range is good there - I’ll give the course a go
