What is the cheapest 1440p GPU?
Posted by Expensive-Delivery96@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 142 comments
I know that "1440p GPU" is an arguable term but I mean a GPU that can play 1440p pretty comfortably. So like \~60 fps in demanding games, high/ultra high settings. I'm on a tight budget for a PC and I already have a 1440p monitor so I'm trying to fins the cheapest components that make sense.
Leo1_ac@reddit
Depends on what you want to play.
My GTX 1080 plays WoW Classic and Civ VI at 3440X1440 100 FPS ultra quite comfortably.
neezaruuu@reddit
6700xt is the cheapest id go for
froggy114@reddit
got a 6700xt for 200 and its great. not the 2026 games at ultra settings, but for sure above ps5 graphics and pretty confortable
ninjabell@reddit
I want to sell my old 6750xt but don't have Facebook, and I feel people would be leary of an Ebay account with no selling history. What platform did you use to get yours? I loved that card and I want someone to be using it.
windowpuncher@reddit
FB burner account. Or craigslist.
ninjabell@reddit
Both are sketch tbh
windowpuncher@reddit
It's not an issue if you choose a good meetup spot. I always conceal carry for a deal and I always meet in the local police station parking lot, unless it's not feasible like buying a salvage motorcycle or something. Just choose a spot in the daytime with people and cameras.
If you're afraid they're going to run off with it then ask to take a picture of both sides of their ID first and maybe ask to hold at least half of the cash, if not all of it. They can take it out of the box and look at it and do whatever. If they do something stupid like drop and break it, it's theirs. If they run, which they won't, you have the cash. They might also ask to take a picture of your ID and get your phone number in case the card doesn't work, which is fair but you also have the right to decline.
If you have a spare pc you can bring it along with a suitable AC inverter and show the PC running with the card in it. Just make sure the car is running so you don't kill your battery. Ebay has buyer protection which is a giant pain in the dick for even legit sellers, and doing deals in person means you get to keep that 13% that ebay normally takes and you also don't pay for shipping, so if you sell a card for $250, you get $250 and not $174. You basically double your money doing deals in person. It's annoying, yeah, but it's worth it imo.
ninjabell@reddit
Nope. Don't trust anyone that downvotes a simple statement and then writes 4 paragraphs. Fuck off dude.

That actually wasn't me, but I did now, dick.

How about a 7600xt? I need to upgrade my crap monitor and not sure what to go for.
Modernisse@reddit
I own a 16gb 7600XT and I play at 1440p. I have played several Triple A games that are relatively new at 60+fps. No frame gen, but fsr has been used. Depending on what you play and what you're comfortable with, it can do the job.
neezaruuu@reddit
It’s advertised as a 1080p card but I think you can get away with it. Just make sure to buy the 16gb variant.
Ndmndh1016@reddit
Its the 16gb.
Lapare@reddit
I have one and its been flawless for the last two years.
windowpuncher@reddit

HayesBrewery@reddit
Probably 5060ti/9060xt.
If you can find a used 3080 or 4080 that would be good too
GoldkingHD@reddit
Probably a 5060ti 16gb or a 9060xt 16gb, definitely utilizing dlss/fsr though.
rookieseaman@reddit
Why on earth do you think you need a 50 series card to run 2k? What?
froli@reddit
At high or ultra settings though?
rookieseaman@reddit
Yes? A 3080TI absolutely will do that. Even then that’s besides the point. Post asked for cheapest option and everyone’s talking about the highest possible settings. Will he be hitting 240FPS or whatever bullshit you probably consider “standard”? No, but poster asked for cheap.
froli@reddit
Both are what OP asked. Cheapest option for high/ultra settings at 1440p and 60 FPS
rookieseaman@reddit
And that is not a 50 series card lol
froli@reddit
Yeah ok. I wasn't arguing against it. Was just legitimately asking cause I don't have either.
rookieseaman@reddit
I apologize for the frustration. The fact is all cards are expensive right now so even the “cheap” cards are running you 300-400 dollars so there is an argument to be made to just getting a 50 series card for 2-300 hundred more it’ll cost you and call it good but a lot people are struggling right now and may not be able to stretch that extra 2-300 bucks and just want to run something stable, not blow your pants off amazing.
froli@reddit
It depends how strap for cash you are and where you draw the line. I would personally recommend against getting a 2 gen old card if you want to play at max settings today. Cause it won't be long before you won't be able to do that with yet unreleased games.
The choice really comes down to:
Would I rather pay more now and play max settings now and in the future
or
Would I rather pay less now to play max settings now but likely tune down settings later (or upgrade GPU again)
I personally prefer the first option but everyone is different.
Solary_Kryptic@reddit
buying used is a whole new risk
koelol@reddit
I play latest triple A games on 1440p maxed out settings with upscaling and maintain 60fps consistently.
5060ti 16gb is a 4k card not a 2k card.
allintheselike@reddit
upscaling doesn't count
koelol@reddit
Why would upscaling not count? I'm able to run all of the latest games on a 3060 12gb in 1440p on near maxed-out settings with a stable 60fps+. I have absolutely no issues with anything gameplay or visual related and feel no perceivable input lag.
What's the point of suggesting someone a $500+ card to play maxed out native when they're on a tight budget, when using upscaling can provide the same experience for way less money?
allintheselike@reddit
I just think it makes gpu comparisons meaningless. I love upscaling actually, I have a 9070 xt and a 4k monitor and I refuse to play below 60 fps so I end up using upscaling in many AAA games. and I agree it is nearly visually indistinguishable.
but it's still dishonest to claim that it's running games like clair obscur at 4k 60 fps. because yes it may appear that way but thats not what's actually physically happening on the graphics, card, it's actually rendering at 1440 60 fps and guessing what it would look like in 4k. and it makes some damn good guesses but that doesn't mean it's actually running 4k
using your example, if you were to consider a 3060 a 1440p card, then a 9060 xt could be considered a 4k card. because it can do it with significant upscaling, but I wouldn't say that really counts.
froli@reddit
Yeah ok. I was asking about the 30 series card they recommend instead though
koelol@reddit
accidentally left out that it's with a 3060 12gb
ErazeFilth@reddit
Um is this cheaper than a 3080? Because my 3080 achieves this bitbit seems youre saying I'm two gems behind the minimum.
Petrovics1997@reddit
I don't think you can find 3080s new and buying used is a whole another can of worms. But yeah actually I'd argue the 9060XT/5060Ti class does already need heavy upscaling at times to hit 60 at 1440p high in the newest of games, so something a bit more powerful like a 3080 does make more sense
mattcamps@reddit
he's sniffing something cuz my 2080 is quite fine for 1440p.
AlfaPro1337@reddit
5060 Ti 16GB is the better choice, longer driver support, better innovation set, the competition red is the total opposite.
There is the Intel Arc B580.
Serious-Ad1592@reddit
This is a fairly dated opinion, the Radeon 500 series from 2017 still gets regular updates. And yeah the innovation might be marginally slower than green, but AMD isn't just sitting on their hands.
AlfaPro1337@reddit
Huh? RX 500 series is the same card as RX 400, and that aged like rotten milk when compared to the competition.
Because they have no good engineers, when was the last time in the past 5 years AMD innovate, showed first and Nvidia had to respond?
Serious-Ad1592@reddit
RX500 was in fact built on the same architectural as the RX400, and the competition was better at the time. NVIDIA does in fact tend to be ahead of AMD in innovation. You're so smart, good boy knows the script every other green pilled good boy know.
Thankfully none of what you said matters, because I wasn't talking about the competition and I already said NVIDIA tends to be ahead on innovation.
AlfaPro1337@reddit
RX 500 is just a rebadged, the even the Device ID in the driver is the same. I think RX 560 or something is different from 460.
Damn, someone isn't a good boy.
The fact that you couldn't give a response on any AMD’s innovation shows you have been red pill too much.
xagds@reddit
The RTX 5060 8gb is ofc cheaper and capable on 1440. But we shall not speak of it
Ouaouaron@reddit
There's nothing "comfortable" about trying to use 8GB of VRAM for demanding games. It's usually possible to find the right settings for it, but optimizing settings for 8GB is just a bad experience.
Muspelheim_Moors@reddit
I own a 9060xt 16gb & use a 27" 1440p monitor. i dont use any frame gen etc and get happily over 60fps with high setting in all the games i enjoy playing like hunt showdown etc

I'll probably get downvoted again but I play horror games on 1440p on near maxed out settings with a 3060 12gb using lossless scaling on steam.
I'm currently playing a lot of Resident Evil Requiem and maintain 60fps+ with all settings maxed out except for shadows on high instead of max and no ray tracing.
I've also recently played Silent Hill F, Death Stranding, Fatal Frame II Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village. All games with high settings and 60fps+ with smooth gameplay.
Despite Redditors loving to parrot one another, you can comfortably play with a much cheaper/older GPU. I quickly glanced on ebay and I'm seeing listings selling used shipped for $300. You might even be able to get away with cheaper cards, but I can only talk about the card that I own.
The top comment currently on this post is suggesting a 5060ti 16gb. That card can play Resident Evil Requiem at 4K 60fps on maxed out settings WITH ray tracing enabled. You do NOT need that strong of a GPU to play 1440p. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f07-xW_Ob84
There is no reason for you to spend more money when you're on a tight budget to achieve native 1440p 60fps maxed out when I can comfortably do it with upscaling.
chsn2000@reddit
Is there a reason for using lossless scaling instead of DLSS?
koelol@reddit
Lossless scaling is universal so it supports games that don't have DLSS. You can use DLSS 2x instead if available; it'll be better. On older cards, you also don't have access to nvidia frame gen but do with lossless scaling.
chsn2000@reddit
I'm aware of it- I use it, especially for emulators or old console ports where framerate can't be unlocked and/or fps affects the engine
Mostly asked because you listed newer games which should have DLSS, so I wondering if you still used lossless scaling for them, too.
Sevchankov@reddit
I still rock my RTX 3060 TUF 12GB since realase on a 32" Asus Rog XG32VC (2560x1440) since ~6 month I run a dual GPU setup with Lossless Scaling (RTX 3060 for the main card and RX 6500 for rendering and frame generation) and i ain't changing soon, I just hit my max monitor fps (144 non OC, 170 OC) on almost every games, 120-130 on more recent performances heavy games, all that for like 150-160 watt on loads.
It's just too good honestly.
Encouragedissent@reddit
Up until I replaced it a couple months ago I was still gaming on a 1080ti in 1440p. While I did need to optimize the settings for every game and usually turn off AA, I still managed between 70 to 90 frames with almost everything, and you can get about the same performance out of a 5050. Likewise people act like you need a 5080 to play in 4k, but then when you watch benchmark videos modern AAA games almost all get above 60 fps averaging about 80.
There is definitely a disconnect between what the evidence shows these graphics cards are capable of doing, and what people on forums like these say thay can do.

Definitely not the cheapest but I wouldn’t say it’s tooo expensive either. A used 6800xt I’ve seen go for 190 to 330 dollars it’s handled pretty much every game I’ve thrown at it at high settings, maybe a few need some fsr but I can run a decent amount of games native and get around 80 fps

3080/ti/4070/super. 3080/ti being way more power hungry than the rest. 5060 ti 16gb technically but they're 40% above an already inflated MSRP; corpo greed is real. On AMD side, anything other than the latest 90 series has no good upscaling and you'll want upscaling in most games post 2020. 3060 if you actually find 60 fps enjoyable and don't mind searching for optimized settings every game. I wouldn't buy 3060 ti/70 8gb cards.

5060 Ti 16GB at current pricing is kind of mediocre performance per dollar. If you're going to stretch ~$570 range for one of those, you're much better off just stretching up to $630 for a much faster 5070. Then you're getting about the same raw raster performance/$ as the 9060 XT 16GB, but with all the Nvidia feature benefits.
True_Asparagus3498@reddit

What are your machines specs and what operating system are you running. I know I was able to do 1440p at above 60fps in pre Unreal Engine 5 games with a EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti SC Ultra Black... Like GTA V on max settings 1440p but Cyberpunk 2077 I'd have to tone down all the fancy tracing stuff and I'd get +60fps on Linux and Windows 10. I'm playing on a 7800XT. Most games I play can do high/ultra 1440p 60fps+ with little to no framegen or upscaling. Some games needed "quality" FSR (stalker 2 or indiana jones in my case). But unless you want to push extra features (like HQ ray or path tracing) it's a fine card.

If you are looking for brand new, then the 9060XT 16GB is the best you can get for relatively cheap. You will have to use FSR upscaling in most new AAA titles, though. As for older used GPUs, something like an RX 6800, RTX 3080 or a 7700XT would also do the trick; you can find these for quite a bit cheaper than a new 9060XT.
The thing is, none of the above GPUs will really do Ultra preset 60FPS at 1440p in demanding new AAA games (unless you upscale the shit out of them). If you want a GPU that can comfortably handle that, you can't go cheap and need at least a 4070Ti or a 7900XT.
