despite the reputation I never had a problem, I always flew spirit. light carry-on, throw some headphones on and ignore the idiots. never paid more than $100 round trip

Exactly this. Flew them multiple times, never had an issue. People talk about it like it was a bus filled with zoo animals but I never found that to be the case any more so than when I flew American or Delta, if anything I appreciated the efficiency.
