Are You Done With Large Events?

- I’ve been to some outstanding concerts and college/pro sporting events. I’m about ready to retire from these events and let the younger crew step up. I can’t completely let go of my college’s football/basketball quite yet, and I’m still up for a sit-down small-venue concert but it’s all wearing on me. Some people never go anywhere but I guess I’ve always suffered from FOMO. I may have to retire though
OneMustAlwaysPlanAhe@reddit
55 here, I thought I was done. Then Metallica at the Sphere was announced ... I guess I have at least one more in me. Well, 2 since we are going to a no repeat weekend.
Objective_Clue_3091@reddit
Really only music festivals have hit the chopping block for me. 2 days in the dirt and heat is too much for 60. But I’ll go to tons of concerts and sports.
AcademicIdea9169@reddit
Not done but definitely more selective. They are draining and often more expensive than I expected.
No-Doughnut324@reddit
According to the drug commercials we all like open air concerts and sitting on blankets.
BuyYouASodaOgie@reddit
Depends on what you mean by large. I'm into live music, so I'll see what bands I like, small or large venue. But, I want a seat and I'm not into all day festivals. Only exception is a few shows I've been to in a tiny local club that is standing only, and I did feel that in my back after.
EnglishFan643@reddit
I've been done with events like that for a long time.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I only do one a year and have been doing it for 31 years. I pretty much try to avoid any other large events as much as possible. I only go if the wife wants to.
itgoesineasy@reddit
I like meeting new people but hate crowds. I’ve never liked being anywhere that a lot of people I don’t know are touching me. Been to a few concerts and enjoyed the bands but hated the environment. After a U2 concert in KCMO I vowed Never Again!
limited_instincts@reddit
No, we still go to concerts, big games etc. One thing we've started doing that makes an absolutely massive difference and reduces any stress about the events 99% is hiring a private driver to take us to and from. It is SO much better.
Dancinfool830@reddit
Nope, I will he going to shoes and dancing my ass off until I am broken and senile. Then it'll be time for one last skydive
Wahoo-Is-To-A-Fish@reddit
Went to a 3- day music festival this year. We even had a proper hotel - not like a camping situation. And, I am comfortable declaring that's gonna be it for me. Too expensive, too hot, too many a-holes, just ... too much. Not fun anymore.
Aggressive_Key5504@reddit
We have transitioned to going to the symphony. It has been wonderful and affordable!!!
SwimmingBridge9200@reddit
My husband wanted to go see an artist at a small indoor venue with very limited seating. We had to wait outside about a half hour to get in the building. The opening act took forever. By the time the main act came out we had been standing for about 2.5 hours. We lasted maybe another forty minutes. Of course it was also packed and super loud. Totally not my idea of a good time, but he really wanted to go.
Low-Valuable1819@reddit
No, BUT, I am certainly more picky. I only go to shows I’m excited for.
FawnLeib0witz@reddit
Same. I am seeing the Foo Fighters this summer and I think that will wrap up my list of bands that I want to see in concert.
grateful_john@reddit
Hell no. I’m attending the NOLA Jazz Festival for the first time this weekend, been having an absolute blast.
1kpointsoflight@reddit
Go see WSP
grateful_john@reddit
They came on early Thursday due to storms shutting things down early. I’ve never seen so much music in such a short time and there’s a day to go. Tough to top the Meters from last night, though.
1kpointsoflight@reddit
The meters are great!
Abpoe77@reddit
Pretty much. I've worked with small engines since I was 10. Small arms in the military and diesel trucks since the early 00s. I started having to wear ear plugs at live music shows big or small. Crowds have always made me nervous but since COVID even more so. I love live music so if we do go we get lawn seats if possible.
desonos@reddit
I'll goto concerts, but only outdoor events and sitting way back on the lawn. Went to a Volbeat/Halestorm concert last year (friend invited me) and three rows from front (first time seeing either band). Though I loved it (Hale is a good looking woman btw). My body hated me for three weeks after. So not giving events up, just not gonna be front row and center again. I'd goto a (STL) Cardinals game again when I retire upto near south of STL (from Charlotte). But prob not any major other sporting events (Though hockey is tempting). Getting old def sucks!
Wacko_Banana_Pants@reddit
Large crowds never bothered me before but they do now. People behave differently now and its not for the better
silvermanedwino@reddit
Yes. Yuck.
Front_Price_4466@reddit
I'm going to medium sized venues to see old punk bands by myself. I just want to see them and go on my terms.
I see a lot of of Gen X attendees that seem to be doing the same
Kitty_Mombo@reddit
Maybe - I’ll go to a spring training or weekday MLB game. I love the game - hate the fans.
ragg5th@reddit
Yes, wife no. So going to three concerts this year. Don’t like waiting for bathrooms, lines for drinks and food. Plus fighting to leave parking lots.
RealtorRVACity@reddit
We will be forced to stop as we age due to the ridic. prices for EVERYTHING. Beyond that I already have disco ear from going to clubs starting at 16 so really don't want to do loud shit anymore. Our new baseball park charges $18 for A beer. Yeah, no.
IndependentlyGreen@reddit
Cost of tickets made the decision for me.
zuuzuu@reddit
Me, too. I love live music and big concerts in big venues. But I can't afford tickets to those shows. Now I'm all about the legacy acts I somehow missed in the 80s or 90s. They come to the 5,000 seat venue at my local casino and I sit in the cheap seats because it's small enough that it doesn't matter. And I get to cross some artists of my live music bucket list.
7eregrine@reddit
This. I will definitely ballgames and things. I'm not anti but events. Joe Bonomassa came to a small theater near me ... Charging $300. I can afford that easily. Fuck you, not paying that.
The. Sebastian Monascalco cane to Cleveland... 1 show... And he came to one of the largest venues we have... 20.000 seats. Where the Cavs play. Fuck off. I love stand up... I'm not paying to see you in a venue like that. Could have done 3 intimate shows at the Playhouse.
Greedy fuck.
SamHandwich0@reddit
Concerts- yes, sadly my ears cant take it anymore.
I still go to AHL hockey games though
New-Sheepherder2239@reddit (OP)
I’ll be interested to see how my hearing progresses over the next decade or so, assuming I make it of course. I have excellent hearing, too good actually. I hear EVERYTHING. Sometimes it’s a good thing but it can be distracting and annoying.
SamHandwich0@reddit
I have wicked tinitus even pain in my ears. Way too many concerts when i was younger.
1kpointsoflight@reddit
Have you tried ear protection like EarPeace or Eargasm or Loop? I too have the T and these are game changers for me. Just put them in right before the band starts
SamHandwich0@reddit
I keep threatning to, but i also rarely go to shows anymore.
Tuesday night at 7:00 doors open....im out.
I love the atmosphere of a live show, but really dont drink anymore so bars arent as fun either.
Just getting old i guess.
1kpointsoflight@reddit
I haven’t drank since 2019 but I still party I just don’t drink. It’s not my drug
SamHandwich0@reddit
No drugs are my drugs anymore unfortunately
OliJalapeno@reddit
Yes, that is something I am done with.
Scpdivy@reddit
Love going to college football games. And I saw a few major concerts last year. I have cancer and heart disease, and retired and 57, I’m living my life.
Kitchen-Zebra-4402@reddit
Yes. Even ticket prices for shows at modest venues are getting out of hand. However, I did get a great last minute ticket deal to see the Afghan Whigs at the 930 club in Dc this past Wednesday for 1/3 of the original ticket price on stubhub. I would not have gone if it had been full price.
Fragrant-Anywhere489@reddit
I'm done. First concert Rolling Stones 1981. Last concert Jack White 2025. Those are worthy bookends. Sporting events are sensory overload now, overpriced for everything so I've got my last game scheduled for this Sept.
Left-Thinker-5512@reddit
One thing that I can no longer stand with sporting events is having speakers absolutely blasting music. At a baseball game, it seems like before every pitch is this cacophony of noise. Thankfully there’s now a pitch clock because it used to be even worse.
Fragrant-Anywhere489@reddit
MLB has become the NBA with every second requiring stimuli. I think teams panic if there's 3 seconds of dead air in the ballpark. No such thing as the 'sounds of the game' anymore. I resorted to buying full radio broadcasts from the 70's & 80's on CD from the Miley Collection. I can listen to Ernie Harwell & Paul Carey do play by play and be 12 again whenever I need to be.
brostrummer@reddit
As the Lollapalooza generation, I think large events were honestly killed by things like Lollapalooza and Coachella. This is when Ticketmaster became evil, costs went way up, and people started going to these events for the scene and to be seen, rather than going for the performers themselves.
Good riddance to crowds and cost.
Gen X Curmudgeon
SatanNeverSleeps@reddit
I never went to many. I did the first two Lollapaloozas. But usually it was local small venues.
Me and my bud threw down $3600 for the VIP Slayer package in October . If we’re going, we’re going big at this point. One last splash.
Mededitor@reddit
My lifelong tendency toward introversion has gotten stronger. Any place that is crowded is uncomfortable. Like, say, a small restaurant that has every table full. But a concert or sporting event? Totally out of the question.
pickleball_bender@reddit
54f. Thanks to my husband and son and their love of sports, I've been to MANY amazing sporting events. My favorite being able to be at The Pond when the Ducks won the Stanley Cup. NEVER have I been in an arena that was so loud!! Not even concerts at The Pond were that loud! 😂 (I refuse to call it by its current name)
We were able to travel to NYC a few times and attend Yankees games at the old Yankee stadium. We saw a few glimpses of the new one being built but haven't been back.
We saw Barry Bonds hit his historic whatever number homerun in San Francisco, went to a few NASCAR races in different states; Talladega, Daytona, and Vegas. And we've met a lot of athletes along the way as well.
My younger brother is a huge baseball fan so growing up my mom chased some events for him, the big one I remember being meeting Wally Joyner. We grew up in SoCal, he's in Oregon now but still an Angels fan.
As for concerts, I've seen my favorites. Some still put on shows but I like the memories I have of them. I like concert venues with seats lol, so I will never be drawn to a festival type situation.
I'm happy with my satellite radio in my car, and my CD player putting on whatever concert I want! 😂😂
Bflatclar1981@reddit
I've got tickets to see Ringo Starr and his Big Band in June and I'm wondering how the hell I'm going to "people" as I haven't been to a concert since 2019. Just please no drama near me...
Ms_not_Mrs0771@reddit
Ringo shows are usually pretty chill. I’ve seen him maybe 6-7 times over the years at different venues and it was never a hassle. People polite and happy. He’s my fav Beatle and has awesome musicians with him for a nostalgic treat! Enjoy! 😊
Bflatclar1981@reddit
Hey thank you for taking the time to post that!! I'm a retired musician and I love all the guys in his band too! So glad to hear that about his audiences!!
D4visMom@reddit
No. Just went to Bruno Mars last week and stood (floor seats) the whole time. Fun! Retired last year. Went to Beyoncé last June in London and danced the whole time.
Iko87iko@reddit
Yep, Weir is dead, Keith's fingers are too fucked up to play and in the words of csn: it's getting to the point where i'm no fun anymore
Thankfully i know people with stockpiles of good L and Ive got a kick ass stereo. So it goes
SoCal7s@reddit
The cost to “Wow Factor” is gone. Stones multiple times, Stevie Wonder multiple times, Bruce multiple times. Paul McCartney.
All good but I remind myself I threw down big cash for the bucket list. Then did it again and again. Bucket is full.
I still enjoy seeing crowds of people enjoying themselves but for these big ticket prices I could do a lot more.
Right now there’s a big beach festival happening but I’ve already seen the bands I like before so for 1/15th the cost I’m going to a local sporting event. Still a crowd to observe having fun, more money in my pockets.
prntmakr@reddit
I’m seeing Florence and the Machine with my daughter in a week or so, so we’ll see.
DesperatePlatform817@reddit
Love them.
SLCIII@reddit
Not quite X but Xennial here, and yeah, it's getting close.
I saw Ozzfest at the Gorge in Washington year and year as a kid and loved it.
Took my youngest son to see Imagine Dragons at the same venue and was in fight or flight the entire time it felt like
Granted, the venue was ridiculously overbooked, but yeah, we old.
PissedCaucasian@reddit
So minus some MLB games (which I’d usually go to chill weekday day games) I hadn’t gone to a show (minus bar bands that just happened to be playing) since I moved to Chicago in 02. I saw tons of big and little bands before that. Some of the big ones in small venues, Nirvana ,Pearl Jam,Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins etc..Plus I’d been to 2 of the first 3 LoLas when they traveled.
Funny thing happened. My kid turned 13 and asked me to take her to concerts. Plus she was really open minded to my music. So since last year we’ve gone to a handful of concerts and festivals and have tickets to another half dozen already.
The actual going to the concert part is a hassle with security and now I wear ear-plugs because it’s just too fucking loud but going with my kid is priceless! I’ve been looking up new shows and we’ve been going to National, regional and local acts. All sizes of venues. I’m looking forward to each and every show.
Sure it’s a bit of a hassle but there is nothing like sharing any type of experience with your teen because most of the time she’s just in Her room three screening between her phone,iPad and Xbox. We sit and talk and sometimes watch bands on YouTube but that’s it. Now we have experience together. I’m cherishing every second until she gets older and it’s lame to go with her dad. Once that happens I’m probably done with shows for good.
We have two hardcore punk shows this month. I can’t wait!
National-Evidence408@reddit
Woohoo!
My 16 year old recent told me he likes musicals - we just saw hamilton, phantom, and sound of music. Will soon see les mis and spamalot. Chicago is awesome for events. He did ask me if I could take him to lolla - that is a tough one.
My kids didnt want to join me for human league/soft cell/alison moyet, though they did know all three from my listening to them in the car.
Imcluelesstoday@reddit
Nah. I do 2-3 NFL games and 1-2 baseball games a year. Usually fly out to these with friends i gre up with. Flying to Cincinnati to catch a Reds game later this month, good times.
ivegotafastcar@reddit
Yes. I’m done. The last concert I went to, had great floor seats. This entitled sob next to me bragged the entire time before the show how he got tickets for nothing then got shit faced drunk and started assaulting his very nice girlfriend, throwing beer all over the crowd and yelling at the top of his voice during the first some. We had him removed asap.
Then the sport event where I paid thousands for the tickets, I got beer and margaritas dumped on me by the drunk guy behind me who was screaming about losing too much money because the team wasn’t playing well. And his friends weren’t much better.
It’s so not worth it anymore.
1kpointsoflight@reddit
No. Concerts are my jam
NvGable@reddit
Yes! 20 years ago.
robinvtx@reddit
Still enjoying concerts!
Status_Entrepreneur4@reddit
I was after attending the first festival that opened up after Covid. Turns out I didn’t miss large crowds at all!
DadofJM@reddit
I don't mind the crowds. It's the inconvenience of parking which makes me nuts the older I get. Closest outdoor concert venue the lot is a frigging joke. I don't think it's been paved in decades and there is no attempt to to direct traffic post concert. Looking at you Jiffy Lube Live.
And any events at UVA unless you include the athletic department in your will (only a slight exaggeration) you're parking a mile away from JPJ. My old knees loathe that long of a walk.
KY_Rob@reddit
I gave up on large events and crowds in my mid 40’s. There is little or no common courtesy anymore, and the older I get the worse I get with dealing with stupidity.
bonzai2010@reddit
I’m not competing with a social class anymore. So I’ll go to things, but I want it to be comfortable and enjoyable. I want food and something to drink and I don’t want a huge crowd. So a dinner concert at a small venue is great. I’m not going to pay $700 to plunk my ass down on a folding chair to see Rush. I’d love to see them, but it’ll be too loud. The bathrooms would be a nightmare, and who am I going to tell about it? My kids wouldn’t give a shit.
whiporee123@reddit
I go to college games because my son is in the band. Otherwise nfw. Just don’t like being in crowds.
If I want to see live music I go to jazz clubs or the symphony. Comfier seats. It is kind of good my favorite bands are on their wind-down cycle now, so smaller venues.
BookkeeperLeading887@reddit
I don’t like crowds ! There’s something claustrophobic about them for me . Used to love crowds and being around lots of people
STGItsMe@reddit
COVID taught me that I can live without it and not miss it. No regrets.

No-Perspective872@reddit
Pretty much. I can’t handle crowds like I used to, don’t like to be out at night, and need a place to sit and be in the shade. That means most large events are a No for me. I’m ok with it though. If it’s not enjoyable, I’m not missing out on it.
DickWhittingtonsCat@reddit
I will still attend motor races, tail gate for select concerts. I’ve never been one to spend much on sport. If I really care about outcome, I would rather watch in silence with equally motivated viewers.
Motorsports and live concerts are a bit of an exception. You need to see the elephant every once in a while!
DesperatePlatform817@reddit
I don’t mind large crowds or large events, if it’s all the same “noise “, like cheers for the team. But I’ve noticed that my head and ears hurt if I’m at a large , overly crowded restaurant , party etc and there’s a variety of loud noises with bad acoustics. Sensory overload.
10202632@reddit
57M. I haven’t been to a show since before the pandemic. I just don’t like crowds anymore.

Nope I still go. I just buy better seats or VIP where possible
tdawg-1551@reddit
I'd love to go to events, but it's just too damn expensive for me to even think about. Tickets are outrageous, then parking that used to be $5 is now $40+. Forget eating or drinking anything.
I'm not referring to inflation and costs going up. Tickets aren't going to be $15 anymore. I get things are more expensive, but these things aren't proportional.
Back in the 90s I would go to an MLB game by myself. Parking, ticket, couple of hot dogs and a drink, for around $25.
FarCry5372@reddit
I am 55 and have gone to more concerts in the last couple years than I have since I was in my 30s. I dropped watching most sports as a fan,now it is more casually so I have no desire to go to a sporting event.
Cledaddy23@reddit

Western-Calendar-352@reddit
Absolutely not. 53 this year, I’ve been going to concerts since I was about 15, and these days probably go to even more than before. Post Covid, I’ve got a “don’t miss anyone you really want to see again” rule.
I’ve got David Byrne and Garbage shows this summer, through to Rush next spring, and a whole bunch of smaller shows in between, Buffalo Tom, Lambchop, Broken Social Scene/Metric/Stars triple bill, Michael Shannon playing REM etc.

I've never been big on crowds. I''ve also always been decidedly a morning person and most concerts and other events take place in the evening, when I'm starting to fade.
My husband and I moved to the country a few years ago and I think we're really and truly done. Driving home after dark when the deer are out is stressful, and staying in the city means finding a pet-sitter. Just not worth it.
I take a weekly voice lesson in a nearby town. That's my live-music fix. I love it and look forward to it.
aspertame_blood@reddit
Except concerts

Same, but all the walk out songs get on my nerves now. We gave up NFL, the music is relentless. You can’t even talk to the person next to you. Concerts went bye bye a while ago. Last weekend, a Talking Heads tribute. Room was split down the middle perpendicular to the stage - Boomers seated on the left and GenX standing/dancing on the right. It was eerie how pronounced the self separation was.

I really love live music and red rocks is my local concert venue so definitely not ready to be done with that side of things. Still like to hit sports events once in a while too. Id much rather do these things sporadically and really appreciate them than do things like go out to the bar.

Lateone@reddit
A few years older, but I Still got to concerts like Pink Floyd tribute bands, if I can sit and watch the show. Stopped going to shows where people in front of me bought at perfectly good seat and stand the whole time.
I have MLS season tickets and love it, but I watch college and NFL Football on TV... its so much better with close-ups and replays on a 75" TV.
Kitchen_Page9991@reddit
Kinda sorta am done. But it all depends. Went out to New River Gorge in WV for Bridge Day last year. Made my first BASE jump. Was the best jump I ever made. And I’ve been doing this for 40 years. But I ended on a good note. Body is getting a little beat up to be doing all this shit. It all depends on what the event is. Crowded concert? Fuck all that. Been to hundreds.
But I am going to see Iron Maiden again in DC in September. But it’s outdoors and more elbow room.
Head-Reindeer-4082@reddit
I’ve never been interested in large venue concerts for a-list artists. Too expensive and crowded and never thought it sounded appealing. Artists I like which are less mainstream are the shows I enjoy and would go back to again. Baseball is my jam but if I’m going to make the trip into DC then it needs to be a game I want to see and has club level tickets available. More often than not, I like Friday or Saturday night games at the local Class AA team where a comfortable seat with a cup holder is 20 bucks, the food is decent, and there are postgame fireworks.
josephus_jones@reddit
I still enjoy going to MLB games a dozen times a season, and an NFL game a season. I love concerts if there is assigned seating. I'm not standing up for three hours anymore for anyone.
MWoolf71@reddit
I went to my first game of the season last weekend and found myself getting pissed off standing in line for food. I hope that’s not the beginning of the end for me.
josephus_jones@reddit
Some stadiums are doing delivery to your seat now. Which ballpark were you in?
MWoolf71@reddit
Rate Field in Chicago. The White Sox had a sweet giveaway and had a crowd of 35,000, which is big for an early season game lately. Stadium staff wasn’t ready.
skeeterbmark@reddit
No. I go to multiple MLB/NHL games per year. I’m seeing Rush in a couple of months. Went to 2 college football games last year in 60k seat stadium. I’m not ready to go into hermit mode yet.

Crowds can be tough. Can handle nba games with 18k crowd but nfl games with 60-70k are rough for me.
Traditional_Fan_2655@reddit
Plays, small venue concerts, and small gatherings, I love.
My days of going to a concert, festival, or con, with 5,000 or more of my nearest and dearest are over. I'm the cranky old guy yelling, "Get off my lawn", when it comes to dealing with that many people in my space. I used to rejuvenate from the energy of so many people in one place. Now I prefer a small gathering of people in an area or event that I can share.
I still like meeting new people. I just don't want to be crushed by the crowd or have my eardrums blow out anymore.
Baby_angel_@reddit

vf-guy@reddit
Completely and thoroughly. Never was much for crowds to begin with.
PrincessWarriorWish@reddit
I do not enjoy big crowds at all. I took my 15 year old to a concert, it was not so bad - but venue was midsize. Waiting in line to get in was annoying. I hate waiting in line. I feel like my time is worth more than standing in any line. I can literally feel myself aging in line. But once I got in it was fine. I found myself a spot to sit and really enjoyed the band. The band, car seat head rest, was sooooo polite. Before the concert they spoke about safety and when the came on the lead singer was all about making sure to be looking out for the person next to you etc, etc. and the security handed out free water. I instantly relaxed knowing this vibe and my daughter would be safe. I grew up going to concerts like NIN, Jane’s Addiction, and all the Seattle bands. Those concerts were rough. I am an athletic 5’9” woman so could hold my own - but some of my shorter girlfriends had to be rescued. I would never let my daughter in those kind of crowds!
Pointedtoe@reddit
Seattleite here too! We used to go to Endfest in the 90s and saw some crazy stuff. People would mosh to anything, even Gin Blossoms. We saw a girl with a clearly broken arm, got it splinted and ran back in. People bleeding was normal. But they wouldn’t leave the pit. We are good friends with the queensryche guys and go when they are here. Everyone is so old, they just bob their heads now. And we all have earplugs. It’s so funny.
JollyGiant573@reddit
Maybe a football game but that's about it.
Catnip_75@reddit
We still go to concerts, and will go as a family as well. We also go to sporting events, symphonies, festivals. But not nearly as much as when we were younger.
Mouse-Direct@reddit
I will never, ever be tired of the theater, ballet, and musicals. Or Dolly Parton on stage .
Nouseriously@reddit
I'll go to sporting events, but not giant festivals
WeHoMuadhib@reddit
I’ve been cursed with hyper situational awareness for years. Maybe a touch of the autizm? PTSD? So I’ve never been crazy about large events. In large groups, I’m the one who scans for a way out in case something goes wrong.
sutter333@reddit
I’m always that person. Look for exits plan a way out. Once that’s set I can pretend to relax.
jagger129@reddit
I went to a Who concert a few years ago. It was surreal listening to Baba O’Reilly (Teenage Wasteland) and we were all sitting haha
sutter333@reddit
Same but also the dudes behind us were sooo loud w their dumb woohoos every freaking minute. Also homeboys “drumming” hit me in the back of the head twice. Still - I’ve never seen The Who before and I won’t let a deuche canoe ruin that show for me.
Genn8130@reddit
I've never really been one for crowds. And now I don't want to risk being jostled and falling on one of my apparently fragile bones. I'll stay home with my snacks and private bathroom and just watch whatever on TV/online.
ImCaffeinated_Chris@reddit
Unless they get rid of all the people at these events, yes. I only go to big events if they're small. 😁
sutter333@reddit
I don’t wanna be. I am definitely much more selective and a huge factor is what day of the week the show is on. I’m a huge music person … but it’s all just so much and so dang loud and an opening band seriously?! Also jeez do we really have to start that freaking late?! That all said… I’m still sucking it up. I also really like the idea of having something to look forward to. I don’t know how much longer I will last but this year at least - yup still going to shows.
Ok_Transition7785@reddit
Yes because there is essentially nothing good to watch. I mean new music (if you can call it that) sucks, all of the sports leagues but chiefly the NFL have utterly ruined their leagues, the product isnt remotely the same anymore, no passion in anybody, the players or me. And you can only watch classic rock stars so many times who are now old.
redbeard914@reddit
It it's too loud, you're too old!
Apparently, I'm too old. Now get off my lawn!
oboingadoing@reddit
Still do many concerts and won't be stopping any time soon.
ihatepickingnames_@reddit
I have a ten-pack for the WNBA and did the same last year. That's really the only time I go to any event though.
MartyFunkhoosier@reddit
I’ve never been a big sports or stadium concert person, but I do go to metal shows in clubs on average once a month, always front row and center still at 51!
ImmediateRelative379@reddit
too many guns too many crazies too many cops looking for trouble
Glittering-Ad-6261@reddit
I’ve never been a fan of standing in line. Even as a young person. If I have to stand in line, the event BETTER be worth it. I’ve yet to find anything worth it. There is always a better alternative with no line.
Self-Comprehensive@reddit
I have been in a cover band for 30 years and we decided to retire last year and it's been so nice not doing/being the event. I actually stopped going to concerts/events I wasn't booked for 10 years ago. I really didn't need to hear the real band play the song that I've played every note of for the last 30 years anyway
Rocketjen@reddit
We have NHL season tickets, college football tickets, and I still love to go see live music at big and small venues. I do choose to go out in crowds less besides this.
spoodlat@reddit
Done with festivals, and very picky on venue/shows, mainly due to prices.
t_huddleston@reddit
The nice thing is, most of the bands I like have downshifted to smaller venues anyway. I saw Wilco Monday night in a 2000-seat venue, and I’ll see Alison Krauss next week in a 900-seat venue. None of the bands I’m interested in are playing stadiums these days, and as for live sports, I mainly stick to college basketball and baseball, so it’s not too bad.
corneliusvanhouten@reddit
Yeah live music will always be worth it. I have a preference for smaller venues and smaller crowds, absolutely. I'm fortunate to have a lot of great shows come through my area. I've recently seen both Rick Wakeman and Richard Thompson (separately), with front row seats in beautiful old theater in Poughkeepsie that seats 1,000. 10/10 recommend.
TreasonalDepression@reddit
Yeah, live music is my addiction and I will probably pass away at a concert.
FFE67@reddit
yes, festivals for sure. I like having my own seat
CitizenChatt@reddit
Dodgers fan on East Coast. We drive to stadiums and cheer on the boys in blue
monkeypigrancher@reddit
I absolutely love live music and I used to go all the time. Now. I cannot be around that many people in one place as I am immune compromised and let me tell you, fomo is real. Many shows that I've missed here because the city I live in is a popular place for people to perform.
It's kind of crazy because I used to live for live music
Apprehensive_Net_829@reddit
Not done. Definitely more selective.
Patient_Character730@reddit
Not done completely, but we are more deliberate in what we're willing to go to. I just want to the rodeo last Sunday and had an absolute blast, despite the seats being hard metal. For concerts we've decided that the super small venues where everyone is standing the entire time, and you're squashed isn't our scene anymore. However for the right band we are willing to go to a nice outdoor venue that's big enough that everyone can have their space without being on top of one another, and typically we can choose to sit if we want to. We never were sports people so that hasn't changed for us.
joelav@reddit
1000% done with festivals. 700+ dollars to see 5 bands I kind of like, 2 I really like, and 8 I don’t play truncated sets to an unenthusiastic audience with lame stage effects and tons of technical issues.
Whole_Craft_1106@reddit
Nope! Just bought tickets to 3 different shows. 🤘
Temporary-Mine-1030@reddit
I guess it depends if you’re an introvert or an extrovert. I lean more towards introvert so even though I went to concerts and sporting events I was doing it because my friends went and probably could have done without. Now that I’m in my late fifties I’m perfectly fine staying away from crowds.
Ckc1972@reddit
I actually have gone to more big concerts in the last few years than I had in a while. I wanted to see some of my favorites before they retire. It was worth it. I might still go to a few more if I get that itch again.
StuckInWallNPC@reddit
We have up our NHL season tickets and stadium shows and instead go support junior games and local bands. Tired of the inflated prices and people who are there just to take Instagram photos.
root_fifth_octave@reddit
I’m not in any hurry to do anything in a stadium, yeah.
demona2002@reddit
We still love baseball games, rodeos, country music festivals (half days now though lol) and my husband loves WWE.
ApprehensiveWalk2857@reddit
I’ll go to live concerts as long as I can but I could be done with everything else.
MomtoWesterner@reddit
My grand dude and I have season tickets to college football. If it were not for him. I would have quit going. I much prefer to watch sports on TV on patio at home.
Quirky_Commission_56@reddit
If I could find someone to go to a hockey game with me that’d be great. But alas, I don’t know anyone other than me who enjoys watching live hockey games and chances are high I’d freeze my ass off, despite the hot flashes.
xtiaaneubaten@reddit
Im done with raves and festivals. Ill still do a big concert tho, saw Nick Cave a few weeks ago, was pretty good. I live in the CBD so its not a drama getting to one.
Fair-Wishbone-1190@reddit
Ya. Id say I'm done. 53 here. I went to numerous concerts growing up. I'm not a huge fan of crowds anymore. Maybe if it was a band i really really liked. But I can't even think of one that would get me to go. And I was never into sporting events.
minder125@reddit
Will go to one or two sporting events a year. Usually Predators and a Braves game.
But will go to minor league when we get a chance. We live close to a minor league park.
Human_Reflection_166@reddit
I was mostly a smaller venue concert person starting in my 30’s. I have no interest in festivals anymore I went to the first 3 lollapaloozas and the one in 2012. And other festivals. I go see the occasional Astros game maybe one or two a season. My friends usually have extra tickets for University of Houston football games I’ll go to a few. After the pandemic and turning 50. I would rather travel someplace.
FormFar9234@reddit
I am. I used to love going to concerts, sports, and probably wrestling events. Now, if there are over 50 people expected count me out. Also, if parking is going to be a problem, I am just going to go home.
texicali74@reddit
I still love going to concerts and a few hockey games a year. Gives me a chance to get all my yelling and screaming out!
RevToy@reddit
Yes and no. We still go to concerts, but the bands we like usually play smaller venues. Went to one last night and the venue’s capacity was 3,500 (my guess is there was like 1800 people there max), but our local preferred one has a max of 1,900 people.
Far_Put8236@reddit
No. Concerts are fun!
zardozLateFee@reddit
Now that the kids are all grown up, I'm going to more stuff than I have in the past 15-20 years...
ZZoMBiEXIII@reddit
I will still go out for live comedy. It tends to be a really good value for money event and I always like supporting up-and-coming comedians.
Other than that though, I don't do much anymore. I haven't been to a concert since 2015 when I took my kiddo to see Weird Al. That was a great show, but I pretty much saw every band I wanted to see except for just a few. And those who I never saw are long gone now, so that option is off the table. I never got to see Prince or Michael Jackson, but again it's far too late now.
I did used to really enjoy going to WWE events. Well, it was WWF back then, but still. Whatever they call it, there's not much better than a live wrestling show. If I could afford to see one, I'd probably go to a show. But honestly, they are so expensive now it's hard to justify the cost even if it is supremely entertaining.
VixxSynn@reddit
Been done. Sooooooo over it. With the exception of things that my very young nieces and nephew want me to come see them in (school play, soccer game, etc) forget it.
dangelo7654398@reddit
I hate to sound like old man yelling at cloud, but Covid made people forget how to act in public.
Huskergrandma1@reddit
I love a good concert. It's driving into the city and dealing with all the traffic that I'm done with. Why can't they have a huge stadium in the country?
mootmutemoat@reddit
We have that near me, it is a nightmare of congestion as 10s of thousands of fans try to navigate 2 lane roads.
nixtarx@reddit
It's the ticket prices for me. We're avid concert and festival attendees and we literally train for the physical aspect. But between TicketBastard and now gas going out of control...
Global-Fact7752@reddit
Hi, Boomer here, for me it was a gradual thing. When I was younger there was no venue too big or no line to long. When I got in my mid 50s it just seemed like it was more trouble than it was worth..
Objective_Joke_5023@reddit
I agree. There are very few artists for whom I would endure an arena or stadium show. And I’m not going to a sporting event if extreme weather is going to be part of the package.
jtsa5@reddit
I like the idea of them but when it comes down to going I usually back out or want to leave pretty soon after arriving.
whistlepig4life@reddit
Yes. Absolutely yes. Thinking about this question gave me hives.

People suck. I have been done with events since the 2020 pandemic.
