Felt defeated buying these today at the drug store. My first pair of “Cheaters”. I can’t believe how Awesome they are!

I don’t know why I waited so long to get these!
Maximum-Elk8869@reddit
Buy them when the 4 pack goes on sale at Costco or Sams Club. Put a pair in each room and your car. Do that and life just got easier for you.
Fritzo2162@reddit
My reading vision failed like a light switch. I was fine one day, and the next I was at my office when suddenly I couldn’t read the label on something.
Protip- Costco has 3 packs of Foster Grants for $14.99. Keep them spread around the house so they’re always handy.
soundacious@reddit
Wait, people don't like calling these "cheaters"? I was just over here thinking what an awesome name that is for something as mundane as reading glasses.
alanamil@reddit
I used to buy tons of them at the dollar tree. I had them in every room because I would put them down and not be able to find them.
PaisleyParker@reddit
Buy lots of them and stash them all over the place. You will need them! 🤓
Evening-Magician-824@reddit
I stash, forget where I stashed and buy more. Oh the joys of aging eyes and aging brain. Next time I head out shopping, I'm purchasing an eyeglass necklace.
WBRobot@reddit
I found one in an old coat yesterday. Like finding money.
urko37@reddit
I got cool foldable glasses that have a small nearly destructible case. 3 packs on Amazon. I always get compliments when I take them out - I feel like a spy! :D The only thing is that I set the case on the conference room table (or restaurant table or wherever I am) and people assume it's some kind of vape device!
Like everyone else here, I have tons of them scattered in every room, jacket pocket, the car, the office, etc. Welcome to the club!
Laszlo_Panaflex_80@reddit
Realized yesterday that I need them. I still haven’t made that long, slow walk to get them at the pharmacy though.
ChronoMonkeyX@reddit
Uphill to the pharmacy and back, both ways!
blueboatmich66@reddit
Those are nice looking.
Nervous-Rooster7760@reddit
Yeah. I get three packs from Costco and they are spread around house and cars.
blueboatmich66@reddit
Husband has them in his go bag, car and tv room. I don’t think three are enough though. He’s still always losing them.
Equal_Trash6023@reddit
I buy a multi pack online. Keep them everywhere. I really should get glasses.
zoeybeattheraccoon@reddit
For some reason the term "cheaters" bothers me. It's like there's some sort of moral failing by having declining eyesight, even though it's absolutely normal as we age. You can't fucking see! This is not cheating at anything.
Spatula26@reddit
They’re cheaters if you don’t see an optometrist to get a prescription. Otherwise, they’re readers.
The assistant at the optometrist’s office explained this to me when I went in to replace my cheaters with readers.
zoeybeattheraccoon@reddit
So it's low-key scolding from the optometrists? Still bothers me.
BTW not everyone has good vision coverage with their health plan.
Spatula26@reddit
I’m just telling you what big optometry told me.
zoeybeattheraccoon@reddit
Ha! Ok, thanks for the info.
BadLuckIsMyLuck@reddit
Welcome to the club!
geoffrey2970@reddit
I bought a pair yesterday hahaha
BrownCatWhisperer@reddit
If you went straight to +2 dude, you've needed them for a long time. One of us.
Piece_of_Schist@reddit
Wait until your discover progresives!
baileya71@reddit
What are progressives? If they are like Bernie Sanders, sign me up!!
Piece_of_Schist@reddit
Ha! This is gonna take a turn… Bi (or tri) focal lenses without lines!
TobyDaMan8894@reddit

Unhappy_Hat_2593@reddit
Progressive bifocals are the way to go.
PrognosticPeriwinkle@reddit
Absolutely! Love mine!
joefatmamma@reddit
Wearing mine now. Crazy how well they work.
somewherein72@reddit
You can feel even more defeated(but save some money) to learn that they sell glasses at the Dollar Tree.
loveshercoffee@reddit
I actually bought a dozen Dollar Tree reading glasses in different obnoxious colors and patterns to wear at work. I'm an elementary school lunch lady and it entertains the kids. It's making the transition to old person a lot more fun.
NewHandle3922@reddit
And Dollar General, Walmart, Target
TeaHot9130@reddit
Your first pair and you're at 2.00?
eatencrow@reddit
Yeah, I have feeling OP might be the Mr MaGoo in his friend group. Millennials are already wearing reading glasses ffs
mollymoo@reddit
They must have really long arms.
Existential_Threat1@reddit
Buy 150 pair and you’ll still never have enough. Like socks and dryers, they just disappear. I’m not sure how many have met their demise by sitting on them. Falling asleep while “just resting my eyes for a minute” seems to cause immediate breakage for some reason. They end up in the most random places.
FloppyFerrett1@reddit
The not-a-dollar-anymore tree ones are pretty budget but are not meant to last & for durability.
peteofaustralia@reddit
How in the fuck are these branded as Ironman glasses? It's an Ironman triathlon here, for context, not the hero. 3.8k swim, 180k bike, 42k run. On sports watches, sure, the branding makes total sense.
But reading glasses?? I'm so confused.
DrexlAU@reddit
My assumption would be that the person is Canadian given the languages on the packaging, so the brand would probably be something completely different than here in Oz
peteofaustralia@reddit
The "M-Dot" Ironman logo is a global brand. I'm just amazed they put it on some specs. Big picture, it's no weirder than a Star Wars lunchbox or a K-Pop packet of instant noodles, but as an Ironman finisher, this still confuses me.
DrexlAU@reddit
Yeh righto, wasn't really aware of the brand, but yeh companies will slap their brand on anything nowadays hey
squirtloaf@reddit
t65789@reddit
Wait. Are you me?
squirtloaf@reddit
Possibly.
The_Man_in_Black_19@reddit
Wait until you buy a bunch and spread them around.
Your desk
Your vehicle
At work

Golf bag
etc.
gargoyled1969@reddit
Wait until you need tri-focals...
peteofaustralia@reddit
Got 'em. Sigh. They're pretty good. Sigh.
Cerrac123@reddit
They’re not cheaters … READERS
Dus_Tur@reddit
The first pair suck cause it finally dawns on you, your eyes are getting bad however, you start to buy a lot more of them. Welcome to the club.
hojicha001@reddit
So many pairs, all around the house, so there’s always a pair in easy reach.
tetrasodium@reddit
Depending on your prescription go for ones with transitions lenses and they will be the best sunglasses ever because they adapt to sun intensity so your eyes don't just dialate more to counteract the goal
TeamShonuff@reddit
Your first pair is +2.00? Were you in denial over +1.00, +1.25, +1.50, and +1.75?
woofiegrrl@reddit
When I first bought readers (at 39) I way overestimated what I actually needed. In the back aisle of the drugstore, text was so big and easy to read! Then I realized I was overcorrecting and got a proper prescription. It's quite possible OP is only at 1.25+ or so and just doesn't know what their actual number should be.
chefybpoodling@reddit
I thought the same thing. I’ve been wearing mine almost 14 years and I’m only up to a 2.5
Unwarranted_optimism@reddit
I was thinking the same thing!! I’ve been hanging at +1.75 for a while…but got my first readers about 10 years ago and have been slowly progressing 😅
manyhippofarts@reddit
I just got hearing aids for the first time at the age of 62. I've been deaf in one year for my entire life and the other one was really getting bad. It just never occurred to me to get hearing aids before because I was completely deaf in one ear and hearing aids don't work like that. Or so I thought. It's a definite, life-changing event. same thing with eyeglasses. I've worn readers for years, but then I got to where I couldn't even read what was on the TV. That's when I first went to get my eyes checked. Now I wear a bifocals and I can see everything and hear everything.
LocksmithGlass717@reddit
Damn you STARTED with 2.00 ??? That means you probably needed some 1.25’s five years ago. LOL
NPC261939@reddit
I recently bought some reading glasses as well. I went to the optometrist for the first time in 25 years expecting to need glasses. Nope, I was told my vision is excellent but age related presbyopia had set in. Doctor told me to pick up some cheap reading glasses and go on with my life.
Comprehensive-List27@reddit
and so it starts... Now prepare for the incoming. you will have them all over. I have a bathroom pair, bedroom, work desk, afterwork desk, kitchen on the fridge.. and a box of spares for when I lose them because... i do a LOT. Its not a phase.. its a way of life.
dblackshear@reddit
this is the way
Tedy_KGB@reddit
Same here. I must have 10 pairs all over my house car and work.
Historical_Project86@reddit
Curious branding! I'll have a pair if they'll enable me to cover 140.6 miles swimming, cycling and running. 😄
jomara200@reddit
I wore those for awhile and they wrecked my eyes. Beware.
Inflammo@reddit
How?
Winderige_Garnaal@reddit
explain please!
GrowlingAtTheWorld@reddit
Dang dude you need a 2.00? You should have been using them for awhile now if you had to bypass 1, 1.25, 1.50, and 1.75.
awh@reddit
My first pair was 1.75. I had no idea I needed them until I suddenly realised why I was getting headaches when I was reading a lot. I bought a pair of 1.00s at the 100 yen shop to see if that made things better or worse, and when they made things better I went to the glasses store that afternoon to get tested for my actual prescription.
I’m still on 1.75s four years later, so at least there isn’t any kind of rapid degeneration.
Apprehensive_Judge_5@reddit
Don't worry about it. I've worn glasses since I was in the first grade.
bygtopp@reddit
I’ve gone through dozens of pairs. I find some in the lost and found bin at work. Best to just buy a 6pk from Amazon. They break easily or you need a set next to the bed , one in the car , one in the toilet. Because they break or you forget them on the table.
gruuvey@reddit
Stole my comment. I'll add that you should get the ones with the blue blocker tint (computer readers). $14 for 6 pair!
bygtopp@reddit
Borrow without the intent to return. Not steal. That’s not a good thing to do …..
toaddawet@reddit
I turned 50 end of last year. Earlier in that year I noticed my vision when reading had gone suddenly blurry. I went to get my eyes checked thinking something was wrong, only to find out I just needed reading glasses 🤦♂️ I wore glasses for nearsightedness from the 5th grade until I was 36. Lasik was the most amazing thing! That’s why I’ve been so dreading having to wear readers. But it’s getting worse, I think I’m going to have to break down ☹️
Bendr_@reddit
Ah, you’re farsighted. I wish to God I could walk into a drug store and buy a pair of glasses to see. Us nearsighted folks must go to an eye doctor visit and get a prescription (good for one year only) and get custom glasses made. Hella expensive.
hocfutuis@reddit
I remember thinking 'how rude', when the optician said at my age I might like to consider readers alongside my regular glasses, but damn if she wasn't right.
My left eye is weaker by quite a bit which makes it even more fun. Got to have the lens thinned so it doesn't look super goofy.
hoponbop@reddit
Helping my Dad and brother put some fence up on the farm, I was driving the truck along to the next section. I noticed my dad's huge readers on the dash. Naturally I slapped them on so I could look at my brother and say, "Hyuk, Hyuk, Hyuk! Look at these ridiculous glasses." But what I actually said was, "Hyuk, hyu... Jesus Christ ! Am I actually blind!?" Been wearing readers ever since.
BizzyQueenBee@reddit
You probably look like a badass in them! Rock those mfers!
SnooPeanuts4336@reddit
Walgreens has some stylish ones I’m gonna pull the trigger on myself
Torrsall@reddit
Wait until you have six pair and can't find a one!
cgaWolf@reddit
Are we talking about my wife's shoes or my steam library?
hawilder@reddit
I’ve always had good luck at Ocean State Job lot- like 3 -5 bucks a pair and they usually have a good selection. I can honestly say I have 10-15 prs in different strengths stuffed everywhere. Just got my first pair of prescription glasses - progressives.. hate em and I paid 400!
hoponbop@reddit
I lose so many. I have a few good pairs; I like the ones that go around your neck that split with a magnet in the middle, but I have at least a dozen pairs in my house right now from Dollar Tree.
InevitableCodeRedo@reddit
These will become indispensable now.
TheOriginal_858-3403@reddit
Just go but the ten pack on Amazon. Put it on Subscribe and Save - every 6 months. Keep at least 3 in each car. Welcome aboard the SS Hyperopia
Mobile-Piel@reddit
Because everyone else will start borrowing your glasses and you'll be, "nah, I'm good. You keep 'em."
Elfman72@reddit
This is the way. Scatter them everywhere. Needed everywhere.
heldaway@reddit
Wait until you get progressive lenses. Game changer
NervousDogFarts@reddit
Level up and get yourself some progressive readers from Amazon. A lot of them come in 3 or 5 packs. You gotta start training your brain now.
rebeccanate@reddit
I bought some this year. I have a pair by my bed, in the car, in the living room and kitchen.
greentangent@reddit
Clics. Buy them once, never lose them, lens change is free. About 30 bucks.
Quiet-Temporary-6666@reddit
Just got a pair a couple weeks ago. The doctors weren’t able to add anymore length to my arms. I’m 48 and had hoped I get to closer to adulthood before I needed them.
ManyProfessional3324@reddit
Hyperopia tends to start around 40, so you actually made it a lot farther than most! 🏆
Quiet-Temporary-6666@reddit
I got new contacts and they are for distance and a glorious astigmatism (I’m not doing well with progressives). I only have to wear my reading glasses while I’m wearing my contacts. My close eyesight is fine when I’m not wearing contacts so it’s been a challenge remembering where I put the damn things, whether I have contacts in, and really if I want to see anyone!
idk012@reddit
I feel the same...when do we get to adulthood
Quiet-Temporary-6666@reddit
I said 50. I am easily persuaded to go up well past that. I can grow old, but I won’t grow up.
Migamix@reddit
Yeah, that brand is my favorite so far, I have CVS cheapies to carry, my ironman sits at my desk.
CharacterVolume307@reddit
I like the kind with UV protection. I can often find them at Ollie's. I recently got prescription computer glasses for work because multifocal lenses are too much for my autistic ass. Love them!
Not_a_Bot2800@reddit
But you bought the Ironman brand! Your eyes are practically bionic!
TwistedMemories@reddit
I've never bought these or need these. I'm nearsighted and have no problem reading small print. I use the smallest resolution for my computer monitors.
They are 32 inch screens and i still sit arms length from them and see fine.
ManyProfessional3324@reddit
Cool
Elfman72@reddit
How does this sentence play...."Called out an electrician to help me with a shorted outlet. Needed my glasses to read the quote on my phone and sign an e-approval. Ended up writing a paper check to avoid CC processing fees!" - BIG WIN
It all worked out but damn, I felt so fucking old!

iknowyouneedahugRN@reddit
Pro tip: the franchise dollar store (is it everywhere?) Dollar Tree ($1.50 Tree) has readers, and they are $1.50-2.00. Good for stocking up because they somehow vanish when not on your face
Fun_Complaint8877@reddit
I have a pair in every room of the house, I hate having to run around looking for a pair when needed !!
vivekkhera@reddit
One pair within arms reach of any seat in the house. Costco bulk glasses for the win!
PengyLi@reddit
I use them more than my "proper" glasses! 😆
Automatic-Unit-8307@reddit
How do you know which to get?all this 1.5 and 3.0 stuff!?
FewResearcher819@reddit

dragongrl@reddit
I tried on pairs until I could read the words on my phone.
Ribeye_steak_1987@reddit

Cvilledog@reddit
There’s usually an eye chart on the display. You stand a certain distance away and try on glasses until you find the right power
Surfinghominid@reddit
Next thing you know you’ll have them in every room in the house.
Dangerfloof_ATC@reddit
I was just about to say this. I probably have a dozen pairs of readers stashed all over the place. The 3 packs from Costco are great!
Mindful_Cyclist@reddit
I finally got sick of taking my glasses off to see anything remotely small and got progressives. So glad I did it.

Been wearing mine for almost 10 years. (58 now.). For work I have a pair in my cargo pocket, a pair in my center console of my work van and a pair by my chair at home. Can't read anything within arms length without them. I buy cheap ones because I lose them or break them often. Got the 3-pack at Costco for $20.
Welcome to the club.
Oxjrnine@reddit
They are made by Timex?
Cus that logo is from the watch I had for the entire 90s decade
hapster85@reddit
That's nothing. I've been wearing progressive lenses for over 15 years because of astigmatism..
Spiritual-Fruit8348@reddit
Same
ImpressiveCelery4992@reddit
My astigmatism has impressed and confounded many an optometrist. I will stick to contacts and readers until my fingers start wanting to poke holes in my eyes.
hapster85@reddit
What's so confounding about it? Mine has changed a little over the years, but has mostly been pretty stable.
Spiritual-Fruit8348@reddit
I use progressives and pretend I’m shortsighted 🤣 ( had Laser surgery 15 years ago)
CharlieLeigh51@reddit
Beware of “readers heaven.” It’s like sock heaven when you do laundry. They disappear into the abyss by the dozen.
AuntJibbie@reddit
And they turn you into Ironman!!!
Bonus!!!
androidguy50@reddit
"Edith, launch counter measures......" ..... 😆
Bob_12_Pack@reddit
I buy them in packs of 5 these days. You’ll understand why once you get that sorta panicky feeling when you need them and realize you left them at home.
Head_Trick_9932@reddit
lol I’m 50 and have needed them 5+ years. I have them in every nook and cranny in the house now lol.
LazySwayze@reddit
Yo, that was my first pair of cheaters, too! From Walgreens. They held up a long time.
Fun-Muffin5865@reddit
you know what's funny. I never find cool, fashionable frames when I'm getting prescription glasses - but whenever I look at a rack of readers in the drugstore they got some really stylish, modern frames!

I remember my first time too. I was at work one day when smart phones were still kinda new (HTC EVO 4g) and I went to look something up and had a hard time seeing the writing, all of sudden it was all blurry. It was weird, one day was fine, the next it wasn't.
Wouldn't admit anything was wrong for about 6 months. Finally went to the eye doctor and got some readers. It was amazing
nrauhauser@reddit
That's the starter model - get the titanium frames. You will be amazed.
DLK33gmaNG@reddit

OldLadyReacts@reddit
Oh honey no, how much did you pay for those? I've got two words for you: DOLLAR STORE!
Go in and buy 5 and spread them all over the house. For a buck (or slightly more) a pair, you can break them, lose them, sit on them, and not care at all.

KitchenNazi@reddit
My optometrist said I didn’t need progressives last year but I got them anyways for the heck of it. They weren’t that great for super up close - so I decided to get regular glasses again this year. Holy shit it’s like looking through telescope lenses - my near vision is awful now.
PokieState92@reddit
Embrace the suck. My favorites are the 1.5 power metal framed Foster Grant 3 pack I got from Costco
silentAl1@reddit
Yep. I got about 10 pairs all over the house. Can’t see a damn thing without them. Wow do I sound old saying that.
Practical-Economy839@reddit
Me too. Yet somehow there are times I can't find a single pair.
pianoplayerforhire@reddit
This was me exactly. Everywhere. My first pair around 48. Yeah, I felt defeated. Eventually, I broke down and got a prescription pair a couple of years ago because I got tired of bumping into walls with my readers.
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)

I broke down and bought a pair last year. Now I purchase multipacks and have them stashed everywhere in my home and office. They don't understand that the cheaters negate my need for an eye exam!
vin4thewin@reddit

GoldenMonkeyRedux@reddit
I constantly misplace mine. And I think I need stronger ones because even wearing them in the store today I couldn't read a label (tiny print). A flashlight helps.
I best I've misplaced a dozen in the last year.
2013exprinter@reddit
I buy them from the dollar store, eight at a time
GoldenMonkeyRedux@reddit

The three packs are the best. Keep one at work, my bed stand, and one of my vehicle.
Flat_Demand_8341@reddit
I buy in bulk and keep in every room.
blaspheminCapn@reddit
Costco hack
wyoflyboy68@reddit
Last weekend, using a pair of them right now.
trip2it@reddit
I buy them from Dollar Tree for my mom. Saves me a fortune now.
Flat_Demand_8341@reddit
For your Mom. 😉
trip2it@reddit
Yeah, dude. I wear contacts.

epicenter69@reddit
I thought readers were fine, but had an eye exam. Turns out I needed tri-focals. sigh
maybelying@reddit
That's amateur stuff. My prescription glasses have three different adjustments in them, and I'm still in denial.

Old__Medic_Doc_68@reddit
I’ll never forget my first five pair. Bought them in a five pack at Sams and had a pair strategically placed where I needed them the most. Now wearing prescription glasses 🤓
ChoakIsland@reddit
On your face?
TobyDaMan8894@reddit
I’ve got a pair in every room of the house. So I always have my readers. I have 20/20 vision but the print keeps shrinking 🤣
ChoakIsland@reddit
I've got a closet that keeps shrinking my clothes.
morris90024@reddit
I must have almost two dozen pair (mostly Costco) since they’re never where I need them. Probably two or theee in every room and car.
Hour-Bag5327@reddit
Beginning of the end. Trust.
BluAlfaTxFlood@reddit
"Ironman"?
Feisty_Ad6420@reddit
Yea, there's tons of reading in a triathlon.
LibertyMike@reddit
I thought this was the triathlon sub for a sec. 🤣🤣🤣
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
Well… we all have to feel special somehow.
LibertyMike@reddit
I’m training for my first triathlon, so I’m on that sub a lot. Not an Ironman though, just a sprint.
WritingRidingRunner@reddit
Same!😂
tkingsbu@reddit
Welcome to the club :) We’ve been expecting you.
I’m 54.
Bought my first pair of cheaters about 3 years ago…
Finally got some real glasses this year…
Reaper-fromabove@reddit
What’s next Ironman branded walkers!?
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
I’m in.
ultimate_ed@reddit
Wait until you find out about sunglasses with cheater inserts.
SuitableAirport2130@reddit
These are great, got my first cheaters last year. Just wait until you get a pair of nice quality prescription readers. Very noticeable difference. Anyway, congrats on being able to see again!
SwimmingHand4727@reddit
I'll be 60 this month, I need to break down and get a pair...or 2.
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
Do it…
shamashedit@reddit
Go see an eye doctor and get your eyes checked.
toprymin@reddit
I have spent more time with eye doctors lately than my PCP. She thinks I ghosted her.
Independent-Dog5311@reddit
Enjoy! I've been using reading glasses now for almost 3 years now. Nerd! 🤓
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)

Im_Ashe_Man@reddit
I had to get bifocals for the first time last year and I already think I need them stronger.
Original-Thing-2821@reddit
Lmao!… I waited too
DoookieMaxx@reddit
I’ve wanted to test them out but have never been to an eye doctor and have no clue which strength I need. I’m not ready to stand at the kiosk trying on a dozen pairs at CVS, maybe I’m too prideful.
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
I bit the bullet, swallowed my pride, and the store was empty.
Pheighthe@reddit
Dollar store. Get 1.5, 2, and 3.
MaximumJones@reddit
I have several dozen. I have them literally within reach everywhere in my house.
RefugeefromSAforums@reddit
Along with twezers for all the surprise whiskers!
baileya71@reddit

Prime88@reddit
Got my three pack from Costco..
old_namewasnt_best@reddit
Shit. I thought I was in the running or cycling circle jerk sub.
Frigidspinner@reddit
I have some ironman glasses I got at wallgreens but I am so clearly not an "ironman" type person, I hide them indoors and sort of shamefully hide them for my own use! I guess maybe they are a well known brand rather than an aspirational sponsorship?
Second_City_Saint@reddit
I promise no one is reading the sides of your glasses. We cant see that shit even with ours on.
Frigidspinner@reddit
I am thinking of young people and their pitiless judgement!!
Real-Rooster-2607@reddit
I bought a 5 pack off Amazon 🤣
ossman1976@reddit
Yo, you have been living in a blur if the first readers you need are a 2.00
Tandom@reddit
I’m wearing that exact pair right now. I love how they feel and look, and that I can see up close again.
Rob2pointOh@reddit
I'm literally wearing the EXACT same pair, also 2.00.. I begrudgingly went up to 2.00 from 1.75 q couple months ago.
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
It’s not just me, these are a game changer, right?
baileya71@reddit
I’ve left the cheaters, as finally my vision has gotten bad enough to get prescription glasses. Now that I can read all the small print, I get French prescription glasses because Europe doesn’t put any of that cancer-causing bullshit in them. Gone are the good old days of the Prop 65 warnings and my corny mom jokes, “Good thing we don’t live in California!”
Peabody2671@reddit
I feel youman
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
Solidarity!
WinterExisting5076@reddit
I have prescription for daily computer and phone, prescription for night driving (progressive which is eh), several throw away pairs for emergencies like one pair in the car, one pair at my desk in case I forget where I put my prescription pair, a pair in the family room...so it goes.
WinterExisting5076@reddit
Oh and I had a pair of Nooz which were great because they had a case that stuck to my phone case so when I went shopping I didnt have e to schlep my glass case...alas I lost them
Kennesaw79@reddit
I wear contacts, and my prescription was just strengthened, and with that, I now need readers as well. I'm annoyed I basically have to correct my vision twice.
Consistent_Mood_2503@reddit
So, do they make you Ironman?
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
I honest to god feel like a kid again, wanting to show you how fast I can run in my new sneakers.
Bladrak01@reddit
I get mine at the dollar store, and keep at least five pair in various places at home and at work.
MuttsandHuskies@reddit
I’ve done this for like seven years. I finally had to break down and go get an eye exam and get real glasses with bifocals.
AOPWG@reddit
I call mine, my old man eyes!
cwcharlton@reddit
Life changing, as much as I hate to admit it.
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
I fixed a necklace clasp for my daughter, yesterday I couldn’t have done it. It’s a very small win. Magnification… who knew?!?
sodascouts@reddit
I started wearing these almost two years ago, and I rely so heavily on them now that I wear them on the top of my head all day long at work. I'm resisting wearing them on a chain around my neck purely out of vanity.
baileya71@reddit
I used to feel the same way. I started needing readers during the pandemic. The chains were just one more effing thing w/which I dealt. In the scheme of things, eyeglass chains are nothing compared to the devil’s chains— a.k.a. arthritis. I’m glad getting old takes time because it is insidiously shitty.
OkRazzmatazz7572@reddit
Right there with ya
SyblySyb@reddit
I didn’t think I needed cheaters. Until I was at a CVS Pharmacy in my mid to late forties and was looking at all the cheaters on a rack. To no one in particular I said out loud, “why are these glass $2.00, those are $1.75, and those are $1.50?” A lovely woman leaned in and said “those aren’t prices.”
Objective_Site3528@reddit
I bought two 4-packs at Costco. I keep a pair in almost every room and my vehicle. You just never know when there’s a label that needs reading.
PoppaDaClutch@reddit
I did too last month. I can see my phone now! I got in bed the other day and took my cheaters off and placed them on the nightstand. I’m like okay, I guess we’re here now at this stage wtffff!!!
Wintaru@reddit
Get the kind that fold flat in the slim case, those are fantastic. I have progressive lens glasses now and they’re the best
sunshine-and-kittens@reddit
Welcome to the family!!!
Wear them like a badge of honor. I use 2.50 when I’m wearing contacts and LOVE how they look. Come to think of it, most of my friends and family who are my age use “cheaters”.
Tell ya what, I waited WAY too long to start using any, and I’m so grateful I did. Makes a world of difference!!!
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
Honestly… wow!
jaredjc@reddit
Check out clic glasses if you want to really be blown away. I love mine.
Rearrangemetilimsane@reddit
If you started with 2 you’ve needed them for a while.
Sea_Ganache620@reddit (OP)
They’re strong, but my god it feels good!
Nopantsporky@reddit
I’ve been using readers for 5 years or more, just went to +1.75. Would tend to agree
whipla5her@reddit
I buy them by the 5 pack on Amazon.
altairstarlite@reddit
I bought a 36 pack last time
ChiliSama@reddit
Same. I put a spare pair in each car and desk because lord knows I break or lose track of them on the regular.
discogenx@reddit
I have had way more pairs of off-the-rack glasses, than actual prescription glasses.
I’m actually wearing a pair of readers right now. 😏
Ok_Web_8166@reddit
Wife & I have them scattered all through the house!
Responsible-Bet8661@reddit
I’m wearing them right now lol
_Panzergirl_@reddit
Me three
Just-Challenge-5522@reddit
Me too. 🤓
wrenchedups@reddit
Mine went from +1.5 to +2.5 about 5 years ago. I have a small distance and astigmatism correction, so I’m wearing lenses all the time. Progressives took a couple of weeks to get used to, but it’s a bunch easier than keeping multiple sets of glasses around.
Grafakos@reddit
Cheap drugstore readers are a huge improvement over nothing, but they're never perfect, at least in my experience. Wait until you try actual prescription reading glasses. Absolute bliss.
OkThanks8237@reddit
Wait until you have a pair on the couch, on the nightstand, bathroom, desk at work, your car, spouses car, and (for me), gym bag.
pandesoldynomite@reddit
And even then, you will forget that you need a pair for the hotel shower to read the damn small text on the bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel.
_Panzergirl_@reddit
I got those a few years ago. The weakest one. I use 1.50 for close work. I want to get that nerdy magnifying thing looks like goggles flips up on your head when not using.
IronSea7072@reddit
+2.25 here. Probably have 10 scattered around the house.
ProfessionalLime2237@reddit
Long overdue, my friend.
somerandomedude78@reddit
Game changers
PRC_Spy@reddit
I can't wear off the shelf readers, they exaggerate my astigmatism and give me a headache. So much money spent on prescription readers ... I'm jealous.
Glittering-Wrap-9814@reddit
I buy them at Dollar Tree so I can keep several pairs stashed around the house plus a backup or two for when they get broken.
HolodeckMoriarty@reddit
I have to wear mine over my regular glasses
Fair-Wishbone-1190@reddit
I bought my first pair 6 months ago. I can't believe how they've helped me. I work with small numbers. I literally cannot see them unless I'm wearing my readers. Same with instructions on a food label. If I don't have my readers, I have to set whatever I'm trying to read down and try later when I have my glasses. I got the 3.00 prescription # for them at Walmart. I think the highest they go is 3.25
OnlyGuestsMusic@reddit
Defeated is being told I need bifocals but refusing to do so. So instead I live with neck pain as I look under my glasses to see my phone, computer or book.
JackWylder@reddit
Every room in the house AND glove compartment of both vehicles. Hell I keep a pair in my buddy’s truck. They’re like $3-4 each so why not?
Vprbite@reddit
Ya. You're strictly a rookie until you hit double digit pairs and at least 2 in the car.
Cold-Truck2470@reddit
Welcome to the club
Tough-Marsupial-6254@reddit
3 packs at Costco when they go on sale
billheineke@reddit
Head to a dollar store. Get 5 pair for $7.50
Wolffraven@reddit
Depending on my blood sugar levels I either can get away without them or trying to figure out which one works
DrSamLoomis@reddit
Named after the watch?
Subject-Chart7371@reddit
I was about to say, that logo looks like the watch I had in high school.
WritingRidingRunner@reddit
My first running watch!
jtsa5@reddit
You don't realize how bad your eyes are until you use those. I got a pair of 1.5x and I could read everything so well. Yep, I need glasses.
poss-um@reddit
Life saving
AngstyAF5020@reddit
Wait until you're walking around looking for one of the 14 pairs you have, with 2 of those pairs ON YOUR HEAD! 🤣
Vprbite@reddit
They make progressive readers. Thats where it's really at
Wndrunner@reddit
I’ve been buying cheap readers for years. I got an eye test and I needed stronger magnification but still readers. I went ahead and got some prescription glasses and the lenses are so much better and clearer. I’m glad i splurged on them.
Ianthin1@reddit
I keep some prescription readers at work. They are night and day better than generic store bought ones.
Wndrunner@reddit
I’ve been buying cheap readers for years. I got an eye test and I needed stronger magnification but still readers. I went ahead and got some prescription glasses and the lenses are so much better and clearer. I’m glad i splurged I bought one nice pair from the eye doctor then got 2 pair from zenni on the cheap.
Nissir@reddit
I had tk get bifocals last year at 49 :(
revmanda@reddit
I had to get progressives at 40, so you’re doing great!
CitizenChatt@reddit
Ironman cheaters!
SignificantTransient@reddit
Wait till you learn about intermediate lenses.
I wear bifocals with minor corrective for long view and 1.75 readers, but a pair specifically tuned to operate at 20 inches for computer work was amazeballs.
Jessieoxen@reddit
I’ve been using readers for a while now but at least the old fire house is still going strong 💪🏼
mike2ff@reddit
Now buy a three or four pack on Amazon when you find the right strength. Just leave them in each room and in your car. Will make your life much easier.
LaVida2@reddit
I have readers in every bag and room…and a small stash tucked away in a drawer.
VeeLund@reddit
And here I’ve been in bifocals since my mid 20’s…. 😂
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
Wearing a pair now. Ironman is a good pair of readers.
Cbewgolf@reddit
I trust my vision to Ironman.
