Saw this at a thrift store today

Thought about picking it up but $100 for a joke/nostalgia seemed excessive lol
GOATPointeBlank@reddit
They still make these. I bought a new one a few years ago and it works great for the most part. Only issue is I have very thick hair so it takes a little extra effort.
GuitarHeroInMyHead@reddit
That's hilarious... Who would pay $100 for that junk? Make sure you get the spray-on hair to go with it!
Melluna5@reddit
Oh my GOD. My grandmother totally terrorized all the boy cousins with this contraption every summer!!! đ
Commercial_Access988@reddit
That explains a lot of the hair styles I saw back then.

George Clooney has used one for years. He's talked about it many times. They used to be inexpensive but the pandemic ruined that too LOL
ShoulderPainCure@reddit
It certainly does suck!
MadAstrid@reddit
Omg.
I had a coworker who bought one of these and it became an enormous tale of woe.
First, he was convinced it would pay for itself, because his little kid hated haircuts and it was becoming an issue. His wife was against it, but he was certain. Then it turned out that it was not compatible with his vacuum cleaner, so in addition to paying a fortune for it, he also had to pay for a new vacuum.
Turns out the neurodivergent kid hated vacuums as much as he hated the barber, so using it on him was impossible. But coworker was determined to prove he had not made a mistake, so he used it to cut his own hair. Once.
The haircut was so bad he got rid of the flowbee.
Bonus story - the grifters who sold these at the country fairs used a shill in the audience to come up and demonstrate how easy it was. The kicker was that the shill only had one arm.
ShockedNChagrinned@reddit
I have foregone the flobee and going to a barber. Just grab the 20.00 haircut set from Amazon and use 3-4 of the attachment options on the buzzer on yourself. Like 8 all over, 7 cresting the crown, 5 to the temples, and 3 to ear top. Comb it out to find places you miss during each layer. Use a mirror to check the ears, back and sides. Done. Yes, you're stuck with a short and neat haircut, but really, I don't want to spend any time grooming daily.
BooEffinHoo@reddit

Thrift storesâ prices have become ridiculously stupid. Itâs not like they have to pay tariffs on the stuff, itâs all DONATED!! Theyâre pricing themselves out of business.
ltlcrab@reddit
Sadly, itâs the people that go into thrift stores who merely place items they purchase on eBay or Facebook marketplace for a profit. The thrift stores caught onto that and raised their prices accordingly. Now thrift stores suck for people that really need them.
Not_a_Bot2800@reddit
I hadnât thought of that! The last time I went to what used to be my favorite one, I left with nothing. I can buy brand new stuff for the prices they were charging. Actually, some of the stuff was marked even higher than brand new. Shame. đ
ltlcrab@reddit
Yes, the âinternet pickersâ ruined what thrift stores were set up for - allowing financially challenged people to afford to dress and furnish their places with a little dignity.
Clear_Session8683@reddit
For the whole system on Amazon itâs about $300. My Mom used it on my brothers. It worked great.

I bought one a few days before my wedding in 1993. My last barbershop haircut was the one I got for my wedding. 32 years later I still have it and have not been to a barbershop since.
MooPig48@reddit
So itâs still what you cut your hair with?
photoman51@reddit
Yes and it still does a great job. Paid $79.00 for it November 1993. 33 years x6 haircuts a year is 198 total haircuts at an average $40 per visit is $7920 saved
CereaIKiIIah@reddit
Not quite the same but Iâve had a pair of $25 clippers like 25 years, and I shave my head about every 6-7 weeks. Never had calculated it before but thatâs like 8 haircuts a year and $8k Iâve saved too!

My husband got one of these a couple of years ago because he hates going to the barber. Not the expense, just having to take the time to drive somewhere, possibly have to wait, etc. He loves this silly thing. It took him a few tries to get really good with it but he has got it down to a science. Be warned, it is very loud so get some earplugs.
If you decide to buy one, get it from the company's website as they are priced better than amazon. Also, spring for the vacuum attachment. If you have one of those amazon bin stores, maybe check there because my husband's co-worker decided he wanted one and scored one at a bin store for like $15.
