The first one has better performance outright. The c190 gt r is faster than the gt63 pro on c and d lightning lap. Keep in mind it also has the disadvantage of a decade old tire too. The gt 63 is SLOW for its price.
But that's because the new gt is not a sports car or a track car. It's for 80 year old men to cruise around in and look cool in, with soft suspension that won't hurt their bones, and a big trunk for golf clubs. The first gen gt was a thouroubread sports car on a bespoke platform.
This one is just another heavy, powerful coup that doesn't know if its a sports car or a luxury GT
TBH, the C190 had “GT” in the name, but it was really a sports car, so marketing-wise the Merc folks kinda “fixed” the misnaming issue. But I’m totally with you, the previous gen was so much better! I’ve only driven one on a racetrack a couple of times, and I’m jealous of people who can afford one as an everyday driver.
If you haven't tried a C192 on a track you should. If I wanted a pure track car, C190 is the clear winner, but the C192 performs better than the stat sheet would lead you to believe and is better to live with as a day to day car that the C190.
One of my profs in undergrad would tell me that he'd cringe whenever he'd see a Benz with the word "Kompressor" and whenever people would brag about their car being a "Kompressor" because it sounded like "Compressoris" in Latin which has a very different meaning to what the Germans intended.
I owned a 2020 Gtr. Other than the harsh ride, it was a fantastic car. Every drive felt like an occasion. Handling was sharp. Engine sounded great. The thing looked awesome.
While I still think this car looks good, I’m not sure who it’s for. It’s no longer a sports car, but isn’t a particularly comfortable or practical GT car. At the price. Who is taking this over a vantage or a 911?
Can't afford this so I am definitely not the consumer they wanna appeal to.
That being said, this is a perfect example of the kind of car variant that generates hugely impressive numbers but wouldn't be my choice. I'd rather save a boatload of weight and have a (still heavy) regular GT63 or even GT55. The GT43 with RWD seems really fun, but the 4-cylinder noises at six-figure prices ruins that option for me. Maybe the rumored refresh GT53 with the I-6 will be a good balance.
Wouldn't be shocked if they brought out a Black Series or whatever with RWD but that'll be even more expensive. A regular GT or SL with the V-8 and RWD would be ideal.

AMG GT 63 S E Performance
Nice name.

That's about as much weight as an F-150 crew cab. It's hard to call it a sports car when it's morbidly obese.

Absolute beast in need of an absolute naming overhaul

It is! The only concern is, it’s ~2.2 metric tons... Anybody remember when GTs were like 1,600 kg and we called that “heavy”, right?

Ngl, to me this car just stopped being interesting after the first gen
That car was far was better looking, better driving, and relative to the time had better performance
This one is just another heavy, powerful coup that doesn't know if its a sports car or a luxury GT

Minus the misspelling of thoroughbred, lol.

This GT is an SL for people who don't like the wind blowing off their toupees.

One of my mentors at my old job had a 2017 GTR in Green Hell Magno and that thing was fire

First gen is one of my favorite Mercs of all time. Current one is alright but meh.

I'm not sure. Does it have 4matic Kompressor?

Agree, doing number tiers naming for the GT sounds awful.

The AMG GT used to be a cool car
Then the second gen gained weight and lost aura
TS040@reddit
yeah, first gen was a full blown sportscar, the outgoing model is just an SL with a roof lol
the upcoming black edition looks like it’ll be crazy though so I guess it’ll soon regain that aura

2.2 tonnes isn't a sports car
